- In this episode Peter and Logan discuss how Imperial Yeast grows their culture using next level sanitation and why it's not always the best idea for you to try at home. They explain common homebrewing myths like pitching yeast cold and that more cells equal better beer. Ultimately yeast are a living organism that we subject to a very stressful environment in our home brew so making sure that they are treated properly before they hit our wort is not only essential to making consistent, high quality beer but is also overlooked far to often.

I wet well done here. I think the whole DIY chem lab/supply warehouse/gear engineering in the garage is pretty much exactly why Homebrew suppliers started drying up. A TON of brewers want to buy a thing once and manage it themselves instead of supporting the supply chain, then get upset when the place stops offering stuff or goes completely out of business.
Sitting down waiting for the wort to boil and you see a new genus video. How awesome is that!
Great timing!
Yet another awesome episode! Great job guys.
Thanks!
Yeast have it made. If I could "eat myself" (4:10), I'd never leave the house.
Heard you might be getting a Brewie to try out!? When can I expect that vid!? :)
Genus Brewing I don’t know. I have to receive one first. I’ve been waiting for them to send me one since early Spring. I keep being told that one is getting shipped to me “this week” or “next week”, but nothing has arrived.
Dang them! Well it looks cool - so hopefully you get it soon!
Thanks for the link guys, cheers!
Absolutely! Cheers :)

That pun was like an onion. It had layers and made me cry.
I never smack my pack more than an hour before pitch. The pack will sit until room temp. Never a starter either. All my harvested yeast is kept in short mason jars and is refrigerated and re-pitched as needed. Always great attenuation. So many myths with yeast.
I'm a new novice so this was very helpful and amusing ;) - thanks guys.
Glad to hear you found it useful!
My mentor at our home brew shop turned me away from washing yeast in favor of making larger starter than I need. Save the extra yeast, use it for the next starter, etc. Been working great. I love my yeasty pets.
Love the format! Great info! Cheers!!!
Cheers!
What do the Imperial Guys have to say about yeast starters, and if they approve do they have a recommended yeast starter recipe/regime? Cheers.
I only use dry yeast. It stays good for years so I don't have to worry that I have to use it soon.
Great video, hairnets and all!
It's the next wave of fashion ")
I'll continue to let the smart people do the yeast wrangling, and I'll stick to just appreciating the hard work it does for me.
Great video
Thanks!
I don't think home brewers compare their yeast cultivation capabilities to professionals. I think home brewers do it primarily to save money and learn more about it. Informative video though!
Glad you found the video informative!
So I have never understood that... yeast isn't that expensive. Something like $6 for a pouch if I remember correctly? So buying new yeast is actually more economical, easier, and saves time if you're homebrewing for personal use. The only reason I can gather that harvesting yeast would be a good thing is if you are trying to brew in high volumes (thus money saving), but even then you introduce variability that is really tough to predict if you're trying to replicate a recipe.
Thank you guys it was lovely what about re pitching your yeast
Glad you enjoyed it!
How did the old day dudes get like the Norwegian Farm house yeast?
Great content. More like this, please!
Thanks! We plan to :)
Should have listened to the home brew guy. I bought the "cheaper". But this is great info. Next time I go, I'm for sure going to give imperial a try. Problem is I bought for 3 recipes. So it might be a bit. Good stuff guys love the content!
when you get around to it let us know how you like em!
I love this channel. But I have to say, I’ve been harvesting and washing my yeast for years and have made incredible beers from it, so..... I’m a home brewer, man. Everything I do is a hope it turns out science experiment. LOL
What do you call that haircut? The Julius Caesar ?
The number of ways to stress yeast, I almost feel bad for the little guys!
They make us beautiful alcohol and this is how we repay them!?
In my mind(I have a pressure cooker) 😁
Requesting a mandatory beer chug asap
check the IG in a couple hrs :p
@@GenusBrewing I second that
No beard net tho!?
They wore em in the lab - but apparently out-of-lab fashion is just rockin the hair net.
How does harvesting yeast from the starter affect it?
Sorry had too much beer rehydrating
Where do you guys get those plastic kegs from? Working on setting up a small brewery and wanted to look into them as we would rather not invest in a keg cleaner if possible
I get them from Pioneer, although I don't believe they are the only source of them. They are made by Dolium.
You guys rock thanks
they would say that because they want you to buy their yeast.
Pumpkin beer is ready by the way😜
What xmas beer to make? That is the question. U have a port 4.5 to 5 abv. With an oatmeal /earthy fav? Recipe like 2.5 gal
We're about to have a juniper IPA and Gingersnap beer done if you're looking for a couple inspirations!
I know homebrewers don't have autoclaves
I mean... I know a guy... :p
@@GenusBrewing I guess if you have a connection to a micro bio lab
Switch to beer what's that? U both tank it lol fun to watch pros in action
Baha! We still gotta start the day with some wake-up juice :)
@@GenusBrewing both feet on the floor is a good start. Then coffee. Were is the rye. Ok found it half shot ,two creamers and an egg sandwich. Ok
