- The final book of 2015, Halo: Shadow of Intent marked the return of Joseph Staten and the Half-Jaw, Rtas 'Vadum, to the Halo Franchise. It was a hell of a way to end a hell of a year.

So Swords of Sanghilios have Gunt rangers, female warriors, and poets attracted to Spartans? Wow so progressive!
that poem was so buetiful and nice
What poets?
+Jacob Mikeska in halo 5 u can find a recording of an elite reciting a love poem to commander palmer
That poem was the most beautiful thing in the universe.
That poem was the most beautiful thing in the universe.
Great review, agreed with all your points!

WTF
Comment made 3 years ago only has 2 comments
@@scathelock5648 4 years and it's still pretty lonely in here
Lmao
I want a book describing stolts life and how he fought off a Spartan.
A grunt with depth and a "confirmed" victory over a spartan. I want Stolt to tell the story from his perspective, only to learn that the Spartan had already left minutes ago.
I bet you it was a spartan 4 he fought off.
I want to see a first level where you play as Stolt in an Unggoy rebellion against Cortana leading millions of Unggoy forces.
Considering he is a member of the shadow of intent and a swords of sanghelios member, he wouldn't have faced a spartan 4 in anything more than a training session
Stolt for president.
Stolt is love, Stolt is life.
Stolt? Or the bane of the Galaxy
Stolt is my religion. Praise Stolt.
who's stolt?
+QuirkyAdventures the Grunt in the novel
+QuirkyAdventures Stolt, the IndestructaGrunt
+Iderus Naimmee well atleast it can wound a Spartan xD can give it credit for that
It was a tense moment. The Stolt adjusted his breath-mask with one
finger before challenging the Spartan, saying, "LET'S GO!"
"The hell are you thinking?" replied the Spartan in astonishment
"DAAH!" the Unggoy shouted as he bullrushed his foe, slamming him into a
wall.
"Played college ball you know!" the incredible alien taunted, with the
Spartan's head locked between his hands.
"Grunts don't go to college!" the Spartan answered in shock.
"Try... University of High Charity!" the grunt replied as he punched the
human so hard it shattered his visor, "Could've gone pro if I didn't
join the Navy! I'm not like those other nipple-craving pansies! I could
break the Arbiter in two... with my BARE HANDS!" the alien continued,
tossing the Spartan into the air, "Don't f*** with THIS Unggoy!" Stolt
finished as he kicked the Spartan into a ghost.
derpdog lol isnt that from Senator Armstrong from metal gear rising
Food nipple son
The reference to Ur being a god in Sangheili culture was awesome, after having seen the Light of Urs Fuel Rod in Halo 5, it is refreshing to see it has actual relevance.
Overall Staten did a good job with the novella and I personally loved it, I felt right at home reading it, the blend of new and old simply felt right~
I haven't even read the book yet, but I already love Stolt.
Being completely serious, Stolt needs to become a recurring main character throughout the series. It would be fantastic to see Stolt and Locke or Stolt and Chief fighting side-by-side.
How embarassing. A Spartan got rekt by a grunt.
Hmmm was that spartan you? :)
Depends on the Spartan ...
*gets ptsd flashbacks of fuelrod cannon grunts*
Not really. It was an anomaly among their species. Like how you have the Mountain and Eddie Hall. Grunts were always way stronger than humans. This fucking grunt regularly whoops elites in hand to hand combat. Lmao. Dude's op
I like the look of the Prelate armor. I'm hoping we can see a Prelate in a future Halo game. Though it maybe unlikely as Tem is the only known survivor and the Forerunner tech used on them was probably lost with High Charity.
Oh man I really want to know which Spartan got beat up by a frickin grunt XD
Spartan 1337
The grunt is quite tall and fighting with elites and learning their methods must be an advantage. Plus grunts are willing to go suicide on your ass makes them have even larger plasma balls lol. I'm sure most of his opponents underestimate him.
Pvt. Dexter Grif.
not grif he was too busy having invisible nap, which is the best nap! Also not caboose either! probably donut
He was a huge grunt, the biggest of his kind, think of it like the worlds biggest man
Wait , a grunt who made a Spartan retreat ? How humiliating ! And awesome too!
Stolt is the best character in the Halo universe. >:3
Henry Badger oh my God your so cancerous. stop using that :3 face. your the kind of person who's into fandoms. yuck I feel bad for your parents
Briskeh Arent you just a ray of sunshine?
Briskeh :3
Briskeh

Although I did enjoy the other characters, The Prelate was truly the heart and soul of this novella.
I miss Staten :(
Chris Ray Gun yay I love you

BOY DO I HAVE NEWS FOR YOU
First one of these I've watched, very professional and never has me loosing interest.
I watched your first book review not too long ago and it's amazing how much this channel has developed. The quality and organization of your videos has improved so much.
My thoery is that this miniature halo is a prototype that uses different technologies that doesn't break down but obliterate organic molecules. Subsequently, this prototype halo was abandoned due to technical difficulties. Anyway, great review.
I thought it would act something X50, obliterating the life forms.
Seems legit!
wow I actually feel sorry for a San shyuum... never thought I would ever actually say that xD
same Tem Betek deserved better
Nope. Bastard glassed and killed innocent people that had no business with him or his struggles.
I think it's pretty funny but also epic they made a capable Unggoy fighter with Stolt. If this is Joseph Staten's work then I'm glad we have someone from the Bungie team working on halo again and who made a distinguished alien that isn't a Sangheili!
5:00
It's Grif.
Knox the Fox Grifnthe spartan hmm... Very much possible
Oh yeah, during the season 15 premiere!
I know they dont want to hurt brian reeds feeling can we just get joseph back please??
To be fair, a Spartan being wounded by an unggoy enough to retreat isn't that big an accomplishment. How many times have we all been killed in game by a grunt with a fuel rod cannon?
I like Juran’s armor. Her helmet kinda looks like the arbiter’s helmet but it also kinda looks like the commando helmet from halo 3, just in the way it curves in the front
Wish Staten was writing halo 6.
I know
Seconded
Me three. :(
No. that stolt shit is unacceptable
Looping Ropals
why is it unacceptable?
Thank you for the review Halo Canon! Been looking forward to it for a while and I can't wait for Halo 5 to be dissected by you!
Looks like I'll need to grab it. Just finished Last Light after putting it off for awhile.
I'm glad to hear Joe's still got it. Hope he has a role in Halo 6!
This book saved Halo for me after my disappointment with the new campaign and for that I am grateful.
I think I encountered stolt in halo 3. A grunt single handedly killed 3 odst’s before depleting my shields only for me to be killed by a brute
Looking forward to your H5 review. I hope you really delve into the lack of character development and the strange directions the story took. This is the only Halo campaign I've played that left me feeling empty after I finished and I hope you can get to the heart of that issue.
Great review canon. I agree with you on Tem's nightmare as the highlight of the novel. I loved reading that part it was so descriptive. Great review again and I would give it the same score for it as well.
Really can't wait for the audiobook version... whenever that comes out.
WE GO...TO WAAAR!Wat an awesome storyline, I loved the characterization of the antagonists.
I wish they did a drawing of stolt , he was a huge angoy and able to take on elites , would be interesting to see what he looked like
I really hope that the Flood do return in Halo 6. I miss the Flood so much!
+SPNKr Rocket Launcher I'd be very disappointed if they don't return soon. All that build up in the Forerunner Saga!
Halo Canon I would be disappointed too.
+Halo Canon
It would definitely be a waste not to bring the Flood back after the Forerunner Saga portrayed just how truly dangerous and powerful they were. Made the incursion during the Human-Covenant War look like nothing. I would really like to see their true capabilities (in terms of both gameplay and especially lore) shown in a game as well as a more thorough exploration of their backstory, especially their connection to the Precursors, who I would also like to see in a game or at least mentioned (Silentium implied that it was possible).
Halo Canon I disagree there story ended with Halo 3 time has come to move on don't make Chief and Cortanas efforts in Halo 3 pointless.
About Stolt... My money is on SPARTAN-1337
The part where he is trying to save his baby and mother before the flood reaches had me feeling too many emotions! They've done a good job describing those dreams where you have no or little control. Great book!
+musicguy20 Amen! That dream sequence had my heart pounding, and I couldn't put my phone down while reading. So visceral!
+Halo Canon I've never seen or read the flood in this descriptive manner before. It sounds so violent and mutilating and to top it all off the last brief moment where the infected loses all of their personality and love for you fades away quickly. Just before the new flood form tries to kill you. I don't care about zombies and all that jazz, I'd rather take them on than the flood any day!
musicguy20 If you like it, I have a couple reading recommendations:
1. Halo: The Flood. While technically a novelization of Halo CE, it adds the perspectives of other Human forces and the Covenant. And once the Flood emerges, you actually get to see what happens to a couple Flood infected victims. In fact, the 9th CEA terminal was pulled almost directly from this novel.
2. The Mona Lisa. Either the animated comic (available on RUclips) or the original short story in Halo: Evolutions. Really turns the Flood into a frightening enemy.
+Halo Canon
The Mona Lisa certainly has the most terrifying depiction of the Flood by far, at least as far as how they fight and infect as individuals or in small groups. However, as far as their capabilities as a unified whole, at their peak, nothing beats Silentium.
+kaosdrkfire Yea , but there is a little disrepancy in mona lisa that the flood can infect from only wounding , it sounded pretty cheap
A really great coda to Halo 3 (and a love letter to the Bungie era's style) on the side of the Arbiter and Half-Jaw, complete with another sympathetic San'Shyuum. This story sure is the reason why I bought Fractures (since I'm not that into e-books).
And yes, Stolt is a god among Grunts. Also, Tul 'Juran is a nicely done character herself. Wish she appears on Elite-centered Infinite DLC someday.
Addendum: Oh, yeah, Tem 'Bhetek is basically the Anakin Skywalker of this story. Not that it's a bad thing, however.
cool if Rtas and Tul appear in halo 6
I appreciate the review. I might get the book now
i would kill to have Joseph Staten come back to write the story for Halo 6
This is easily the best post-Bungie era book, captures that feel of classi cHalo perfectly
Stolt is the reason why halo is great
So the Prophets,Brutes and Drones are still on the same side so now if they could tame a Drinols they can have a counter for Hunters i'd love to see Sword of Sanghelios vs. this new faction. I've also heard theres lots of Kig-yar that are loyal to Arbiter so that would be interesting i still hope to see Skirmishers on Arbiters side but nun the less it would be an interesting war. one side Having Elites,Grunts, Jackals/Skirmishers and Hunters vs. Brutes, Prophets, Drones and Drinol it would be like the great Schism but better.
Halo Canon Thats true but then again would Some Sangheli and Uggoy to because the're some Sangheli and Unggoy pirates not just Kig,yar?
Jon Adams Oh sure, I have no doubt, but by and large, the Kig-Yar have no true loyalty. They speak money, only.
+Halo Canon Its all about the money, money, money.
Unfortuanly the skirmishers went instinct
MTL-Gaming Michael They haven't. In fact, the Kilo 5 trilogy, set in the months following the Covenant War, features a couple Skirmishers as prominent characters
I hope you use halo 5 for your trademark spartan head bob d: it would be nice like, maybe you can do something a bit more with it too! For example you can forge special room back rounds for different reviews/videos with the opening being we enter that specific room to see your spartan ready to give off a good talk, or something like that~ loved the novel and loved your review, cant wait for your Halo 5 vid :D much love HaloCanon
+Santiago Sepulveda The only reason I didn't use it here is due to a theater issue currently present in Halo 5 that doesn't record gameplay footage on custom maps (or records it incorrectly).
***** The machinima options don't play well with the way I traditionally shoot and move the character.
... What? You lost me at Jiral the Hutt.
Forerunner nanomachines, son. They clean the floors in response to energetic trauma.
Does anyone knows if there will ever be a physical edition of Halo: Shadow of Intent? I've been looking for it since the release date but found nothing. I saw in the novela's description that it was a 'digital-first', this led me to believe that there would eventually be a physical version, but I'm not sure if that's what it means. So, if anyone knows more about it please tell me.
+Rômulo Pacher Maybe eventually. New Blood, another digital-first novella, is getting a physical release in March, a year after it's initial release. Hopefully it won't take as long for Shadow of Intent, but, well, there you go.
+Halo Canon Good to know, thanks a lot. Guess I'll have to go with the digital version then.
Fractures anthology. 'Nuff said.
It would be awesome if Rtas and Tul show up again.
Damn Stolt's pretty BAMF
Well I'm just glad that the Prophet of Clarity isn't the only not scumbag San’Shyyum.
“Gotta wonder what spartan suffered that loss.” DAMN SURE WASN’T A SPARTAN 2 or 3 I CAN TELL YAH THAT.
Operations Prometheus and Torpedo would counter that.
If I was to guess, I'd probably say it was a III
The mini ring is just dope like seriously so cool what it could possibly do and how you could use it like I wander if you could mount it on a ships and blast other ships haha. I wander what it was built for I haven’t read this book yet so I’m gonna stop listening and you convince me to buy and read it I was on the fence but now I’m over i
Great review! I really enjoyed this novella.
I'm new to your channel, and have enjoyed your reviews so far, and assume you've read plenty of Halo books, I was wondering if you could advise any books where the Arbiter, (Thel Vadam) is a main character or plays a large role in the book?
Halo: Cole Protocol. It's set around 2535 and features Thel as one of the main characters.
So that's his name- ranger stolt! I never knew ranger grunt coup be so powerful!!
Stolt is the GOAT.
Theory time In halo 6 infinity finds the shadow of intent and the rest of rtas vadums fleet and they team up and fight Cortana while blue team and Osiris fights her with elites dispatched from the s.o.i(shadow of intent) on the ground with the arbiter
So do we know anything about the gum Tem is using? It looks like another version of a plasma rifle but I'm not sure what model it is. I'm guessing it's another type of plasma rifle IE type 27 or something like that.
anyone knows where you can listen to a audio book of this ?
This story was included in Halo: Fractures (anthology book), which I believe has an audio book edition.
Only actually understood what was going on after you said "kind of like Return If the Jedi"
Speaking of which, halo lore is really awesome, but honestly I think the Star Wars universe is more gritty, and lived in. Still, I love both.
Basically just because star wars has been around longer :')
Bravo! Bravo! creators, this could be a movie and a good one at that
Kel's title as the First Light of Sangheilios must mean that the Lights of Sangheilios Honorguards were founded to honor the myth. I'm surprised you didn't mention those Sangheili in the video.
+Endeavor Tabarsi I had honestly forgotten about that. Good catch!
Halo Canon No problem. And I have a theory on Kel being a "demigod." Nuit I should probably tell you after your review of Halo 5 Guardians because it involves some spoiler material from the audio logs. Or I can tell you now. Take your pick man.
Endeavor Tabarsi I'd love to hear it now. Make sure I don't miss anything for the Halo 5 breakdown
Halo Canon As we learn in the audio logs we learn that a Forerunner from the Builder Rate is still alive in the galaxy. He spent sometime on Sangheilios before he came to Genesis, I think that he may have given Kel some sort of augmentation that made him stronger.
Endeavor Tabarsi Did he spend time on Sanghelios? Which audio log implies that?
Also, he isn't alive. He integrated himself with the Domain. One of the early logs has him talking about acquiring a durance, which is used to contain the extracted memories and personality impressions of a Forerunner. He basically extracted his mind and uploaded it into the Domain.
Don't think we will ever get to meet the Spartan that lost to stolt. Probably left or was disbanded for losing to a grunt (either through loss of personal honour or oni covering up the loss as it would kill the morale of everyone plus lower the opinion of the Spartans in a way).
Or even more grimly shot himself for losing to a grunt.
Plus how dose a Spartan lose to a grunt in 1 on 1 combat (not counting suiside grunts, those bastards get to sneaky), must have been properly shit to get you ass handed to you by one.
Well just means stolt is my new companion choice if a halo rpg comes out
Can you give me your thoughts on the Mjolnir Hellcat variant is? I'm really curious to know seeing as it's clearly based upon ancient human design
+Recovey0 Not much to say. It's definitely based on the Ancient Human armor seen in Halo 4, but that's it. 343 like to do that, make Mjolnir based on some other armor or design.
Does anyone know if halo shadow of intent is on paperback or hard copy I can't find it to buy it and I refuse to buy the audio version
Will they ever release this is an audiobook I know it’s in fractures but only the first Chapter right but seems like a waste not to have this is an audiobook for the people that don’t have time to read a whole book but would like to know what happened
Either that Spartan that lost to Stolt sucked bad (which I doubt) or Stolt is a badass (which is awesome.)
it was Griff
you know I wish 343 put in the aliens POV in the games like what bungie did in halo 2 and halo wars. I like stories of the covenant and other aliens to me it kind of gets repetitive whens its just about humanity.
You should be able to change your Elite profile's gender like the Spartans in Reach.
how did a grunt mange to hurt or even put up a fight against a spartan?
It was probably an SPI Spartan-III from either Operation: Prometheus or Torpedo.
is there any new halo content coming out like a new movie tv series comic novel or game or on line tv series i was a huge fan of halo legends i thought it was fucking awesome
+Shan S For 2016 so far, we have a physical copy of Halo: New Blood, Halo Mythos (the next guide/encyclopedia), and Halo Wars 2. New Blood is in March, Mythos and Wars are in Fall.
There is a Halo TV series in the works, but we haven't heard much from it.
Before this book, I figured every San shyumm was a dickhead. But rip to the one I learn about that had a good heart.
i wonder if in future halo games if we ever see the shadow of intent again what do you think halo canon
I’d probably be the Spartan that was beaten up by a grunt...
lol is the machinima part filmed in h4 or h5? i honestly cant tell.....the background looks like exile.....
+FALCO LOMBARDI It's Halo 4. Halo 5's theater has a glitch that isn't letting me do Machinima at the moment.
yeah the h5 theater is a little disappointing anyways.....unfortunately
Now Rtas can find glory again
Yep 2015. Ups and downs all around.
Stolt is my god
I want a biography about stolts life.
so what was the prelate? a San shyuum or a sangheili?
+Henry Hopkins A San'Shyuum warrior
+Halo Canon I've never heard of them having warriors at all are they new to this novella?
Henry Hopkins Yeah, completely new to this novel
why is fred your favorite spartan ?
+the master He's a CQC specialist and uses knives (I know all Spartans are trained in their use, but knives have a light connection to Fred specifically because of Fall of Reach and Halo Legends).
+Halo Canon does the halos kill plants?
the master If they have a sufficiently advanced nervous system, I imagine they'd be affected by the Halos. There were living trees in "Hunters in the Dark", so I can only imagine that particular species was advanced enough to be affected by the Halos.
i know which spartan Stolt went toe to toe with. It was.....
S-1337
I have to get this book lol... Have you done a review for saint's testimony?
+Johanan Micaiah I did, yes. ruclips.net/video/si_PnpVupU4/видео.html
It was a pretty good book.
Loving the video ;)
Will you ever do a review of the short story The Return?
Someday, maybe.
Ben duerr...
who came here for the band?
Did I miss something? What's a prelate?
+Rob Tennant A Prelate is a genetically enhanced San'Shyuum warrior.
+Halo Canon so basically the Spartans of prophets, what is their purpose and can they even run?
Rob Tennant A good analogy, yes. They are meant to be warriors. They command ships, go into battle. Yes, they can run, though they still take advantage of anti-gravity belts.
Whenever you mention Tem the Prelate I think of Undertale... Great review though! :D
+Amaz1ngWhale I haven't played Undertale. Is there a character with that name or title in the game?
+Halo Canon Yes, in the game there's a secret area with these weird cat things that talk like "hOi iM TeM!" They're called "Temmie" and are based of one of the artists :3
I love this book. But it annoys me that 343 is kinda going all "Look how progressive we are with Halo". But that's just me, Shadow of Intent is a great book regardless
How are they saying “look at how progressive we are” they’re just expanding and world building
@@chainymania8611 Bro I wrote this 5 years ago I have no idea wtf this even means lmaooooo
I want fight some prelates.
never heard anyone say it like "Aru-tus" before
I always say "Er-tas"
but i mean how the fuck are you supposed to say " Rtas" ? XD
Ree-tas?
I wish that there was more sangheili or the other races than humans.
5:09 where's that from?
9.1
When are you going to upgrade your Spartan to halo 5 rather than 4, it's much easier.
+Bugeye0704 I tried for this one, but theater wasn't recording my videos. Plus, head bobbing has proven fairly difficult with Halo 5. But mostly it was the theater issue. Hopefully that should be resolved for the Halo 5 review.
+Halo Canon what about machinima controls.
Bugeye0704 Given the movements I have the character do, it's fairly difficult to record raw (never mind that I'd have to do the whole thing twice for each camera angle). In addition, I always have the camera zoomed in when I record the head-bobbing, which I feel just looks better and allow for better angles. This is impossible with the machinima controls as, the second you hit the "options" button, the camera zooms back out.
Rambo grunt
"painting the san'shyuum with shades of gray" wait what there's bdsm in this book ?_? wtf
+Thormagniss Oh yeah! The Prelate totally dominates those Sangheili colonies. It get's really kinky when the Jiralhanae get involved! Unfortunately, the Sangheili forgot the safety words, and their colonies get fucked up.
Halo Canon lol halo and 50 shades of gray
+Thormagniss Fifty shades of Halo, Fifty rings of Halo, or Fifty Halo Rings of Gray
+Thormagniss It means they are being portrayed as more than just black and white or good and bad. They are more complex then that. Thats something the halo universe is constantly teaching us, that the world isn't just black and white. btw, thats a theme of 50 shades of grey as well, someone thats down to earth but wants to tie you up and paddle your ass.
lol
I came here thinking this was a review of the band...
