Giants of Bass - Marcus Miller

- This video features the track that I've written to represent Marcus Miller in the revamped edition of my book 'Giants of Bass', which will be released in March 2017 through www.basslinepublishing.com
This track was written in the style of the jazz/funk tunes that were featured on Marcus's most recent releases 'Renaissance' and 'Afrodeezia'. Although Marcus is an amazing all-round bass player, he is known as one of the best slap players in the business. This piece has been written to reflect this side of his playing and features many of his frequently used techniques such as double popping, double thumbing and using the technique to play melodic lines. In true 'Marcus style' the bass solo evolves out of the main groove and features some nice blues and minor pentatonic lines.
This piece features some great musicians: Mark Whitlam (drums), Steve Banks (guitar) and Dan Moore (keys)

Thanks for watching! :)
This riff is amazing! Addictive
Really enjoyed this. I saw you about 15 years ago at the guitar show in Birmingham on GB Guitars' stand I think, where your raked triplets and slapping technique made me go home and practice for days, to no avail. Really great to see you carrying on.
Thanks - and I'm glad you enjoyed my playing!
the book is a must buy Stuart's done a excellent job
You r awesome bro
Amazing play!
That was awesome!
AWESOME!!
oh my god that was amazing

Thank you. The music will be in the book, which will be released next March.
Guga Marques I'm pretty sure the video gives away the tabs

greetings from indonesia
Yes, they are both in the book!
Awesome Detroit song ;)
Great
hi mister ! i love this ! what's your audio interface ??
Can't get enough of this track!! Are all the songs for the book finished, wondering if you're still taking requests for it maybe?
Thanks Joshua! The songs and artists have been finalised I'm afraid, but let me know who you'd like to see - we may do additional volumes in the future.
Stuart Clayton ah no worries! Louis Johnson, Jon Myung would be good shouts I think. I do listen to a lot of progressive metal bassists, particularly James Leech (SikTh), Dan Briggs (Between The Buried & Me) and Evan Brewer (The Faceless/Entheos). Maybe a feature on those sort of players, would love to see that!
One more question, any tips on pop triplets? I tend to struggle with building up melody ideas and plucking alternations on that topic, any help I can get is much appreciated!
Stuart Clayton them, and perhaps a piece on Carol Kaye? Seriously under-rated legend!
Carol Kaye is in the book, as is John Myung!
Stuart Clayton ahh excellent!!
your fn awesome
Hi Stuart which strings are u using? Ur playing is very clean and good!
Thank you Thomas! This bass was strung with Dunlop Super Brights, which I believe is what Marcus uses.
lovely Playing, could you let us know the kit you're using /plugged into to get the tone? thanks :)
Thanks! It's the bass recorded through an Apogee Duet, with some compression and subtle EQ applied digitally in Logic! The tone is really in the bass, and the way it's played/note choices. Hope that helps!
Care to divulge the string brand/gauge you used?
Hey Adam, I think this was done on Dunlop Super Brights and gauges 40-60-80-100
Stuart Clayton thanks! Looks like I need to be checking these super brights out, every time I hear them they sound insane!
Is it possible to have somehow the backing track?
themis dimitriadis buy the book
Do Justin Chancellor!

Great job! Can you send me this backing track? Please
I'm afraid not. This track is part of a play along package called Giants of Bass which will be released in March next year.
