It's an amazing feeling being under the sun, soaking in the rays. But too much is harmful. You hear/see the songs as happy & upbeat, but really it's pretty dark. You're seeing through the "ultraviolet" light of the song. You're feeling the heat = the upbeat rhythm, but you dont see the dark meaning of the lyrics = ultraviolet. The words arent harmful, but they came from a possibly emotionally harmful experience, perhaps a loved one passing, or a ghostly or spiritual experience. Adam, you amazing genius you.

If you look at the title abstractly enough (before hearing the song, mind you,) you may succumb to the guess that it is an comtemporary pop song about partying. With people. Yet it about starkly the opposite.
So I was searching for this very song; Owl City's Up All Night, then RUclips suggested One Direction's song with the same name. I listened to it just for comparison with Owl City's and you guessed it: One D's song was all about partying all night (how cliche) and Owl City's has a twist to it. There's no mention of partying at all, just a guy and his thoughts that keep him up all night. IMO that twist is what exemplifies Owl City over other mainstream bands.
