According to her, she claimed to be a M-60 Gunner in the Air Force Reserves. That basically means she was either a sec fo gate guard who qual'd on the M60 once, a weapons troop who worked on M60s, or a chopper gunner. Totally way more impactful to the world than inventing life saving drugs /s

As a black man, this interview embarrassed me. I'm a veteran and when I hear somebody mention that they are veteran so much, I think that they are self-centered and they demand respect. You joined the air force ma'am, known for being pencil pushers. This woman doesn’t have the slightest clue how difficult and rare it is to start a company; take it public and make it a success. The idea that government service / leadership is morally or otherwise superior to private sector leadership is beyond absurd. Good work Vivek. Rise above.
She also was contradicting herself. She said she wanted him to say any leadership role he had even in grade school. He gave that, so she moved the goalpost and said he can't go from that to president, and then she continued to ask for something from grade school after he gave it. Her framework is so bad, she can't even maintain it.
And it is also important to mention that she was saying that saving lives, as he mentioned he did, is morally useless if you get payed.
A general principle is that if you do good things, good things happen. That isn't absolute like karma claims, but If you are kind to people, they will tend to be kind to you. And if somebody returns kindness, that does not nullify the previous kindness, either from the sphere of reality or the sphere of morality.
This false framework is exactly what she used to deny his list of leadership she asked for at the end. In doing this, she is saying that the ends erase the means whenever the ends benefit the benefactor.
No, private sector leadership is very very different to community leadership. One is in the pursuit of your own enrichment, (and as a consequence enriching those working for you), one is the selfless betterment of those around you. I couldn't vote for a President who's been in it for themselves solely, their entire lives.

I served in the military for 11 years and had the honor of leading many people, while also working alongside some incredibly inspiring leaders. I’ve found that the folks that speak the loudest about their “leadership’” abilities, while simultaneously trying to find fault in others, are usually the weakest leaders of them all. Allow your actions, communication skills, respectfulness, impartiality, and levelheadedness show others that you can lead them. I would follow him over her any day, solely based on how they presented themselves in this brief segment. Huge respect to him for the way he handled this. Shame on her for using her military service as a means to project superiority over others; she completely discredited herself. We serve so that people can freely pursue their happiness and hopefully contribute to the betterment of society as a whole (which he is doing), not so that we can denigrate and belittle others who didn’t serve in the military.

Did she not do a horrible job? She literally sat there saying that she wanted to hear about his civic duties throughout his life, he then said he has only done leadership in the real world instead of government. She then said she didn't mean government but she meant things like class president in school, she wanted to know if he rallied people in his life. Which he did, he rallied scientists and researchers and medical teams to challenge the complexity of life and disease to develop life saving medicines that changed the world. How is that not a leadership role?
One of the main problems with politicians is that the only thing they do is politics, they're not true LEADERS, they're just rulers. A true leader and someone you should actually trust is someone who actually led and did something of substance in the real world, not sat in an office chair arguing over what the people should be required to do. Politicians are disconnected from the people and the real world because they live in a bubble where they can play the country like a game with a pen. At least Vivek has actually lived in the real world and held leadership roles outside of politics or government.
Think of Joe Biden. He has never had a real job. He has just sat in office telling other people what to do. How is he a leader? Wouldn't you rather follow someone who actually did something real on their own and had to build something with their own two hands and didn't have the power of the government behind them?

As a veteran I want everyone to know there is a few people like her that think being a "veteran" gives them some sort of self righteous and morale superiority over others. We don't all think like that and we also serve for more reasons than just the country such as GI bill and helping being lifted out of poverty. She is an embarrassment to anyone to have served.
