Great job my man. I just saw a crawfish washer for $140 and just had to laugh at that. I made an extremely simple purge bucket years ago and it works just fine. Basically it's just a clear storage bin with 1 spout like your PVC drain. I just used a rubber washer and a metal ring used for electrical boxes to keep it held together. I dump the sack in, fill it, drain it and repeat that process a few times. It works just fine. That was way before any of these washers started hitting the market. I guess if I were more business savvy I would have done something with it but oh well haha. Take it easy!
Had to get the elbow from Grainger $1.55 (all other at walmart/home depot) - great build - thx for sharing and saving some $$. *as previously noted, bulkhead is counter-threaded so after whaling on it for 10 mins. realized my mistake. ** eyeballed the drain location, mine isn't as low as I should have put it but it works fine
Thanks for sharing. Heads up to anyone else making this thing. The bulkhead unscrews to the right not the left. Minus the day it took us to destroy one of those everything took us about 5 minutes to do.
I Love to see people still working with their hands & making things. I hate it when people say, "why go through all that trouble when u can just buy one" or "he must be too cheap to buy one". It's all about getting the pride & satisfaction of making things with your bare hands & knowing that u can. I change my own oil & oil filter in my car & a lot of my friends give me flack about it. For one, I know it's done right & I know it's NOT a cheap oil filter & NOT cheap oil that I'm using. There's nothing wrong with working with your hands 🤷🏾♂️ Plus, the ladies love a man that works with his hands. I know one cat that didn't even know how to change a tire until I showed him SMDH . . . Please don't give me that crap about not growing up with a Dad in the house bc I grew up without one & I know how. I was in Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts & it taught me a lot about being a man. I apologize for the ramble, but that struck a nerve 🤷🏾♂️
Thank you for posting this! I was about to run to Academy and get me one of those expensive crawfish cleaning buckets, but I think I'm going this route. Have you got to use it on some crawfish yet?
I actually went to Academy today to buy one of the washers & just couldn't make myself spend the $. So, I bought a new scoop and boil bag so it wasn't a wasted trip then came found this video. Only thing is the tubs we used to get for damn near nothing to hold the kids' toys are like $45 everywhere you look. That's crazy!!
Been trying to make myself buy a crawfish washer for about 3 years now, but can't justify the price. I'm definitely gonna give this one a go between now and when the prices start dropping. Question...it should be going on 2 yrs now. How is it holding up?
Walmart is now over $16.98 a long wait to go as well; 175 ships sitting off of California LA port as no one to remove cargo or truck it away anytime soon.
Man I know what you mean our orders for my job have been moved on dates for delivery. If you want the one like I made to make last longer just get a can of plasti dip from autozone and spray the sides to protect it a little more.

This Cajun man on my shift at work swears it makes a difference. I told him about the washers and he said it is internal. He said it is gritty from mud sometimes if you don’t purge. They make a crawfish cleaner from a cooler. Who knows??🤙

What size did you use to drill the hole for the drain
I used a 1/2 in wood bit. I just got to where we could push it through but it still fit tight.

Just buy a bucket. Drill a half inch hole in the side of it and place a Water hose in it…
What about purging?
Purging crawfish is a myth. Waste of salt. Just wash them off really well until the water you’re washing them in turns clear.

Yes what mark said is right. The salt actually will kill them before you put them in the pot. So you just rinse them off so they stay fresh.
