This tip is way more important than the weather they usually spawn at, I looked for the Teca for a week before I spawned it, and spawned it twice since both at noon with a clear sky and a hot sun. And that isn't the only example I could give.
Thank you for the guides man, I can without a doubt guarantee that the Harriet missions initiate the cool down. I’ve managed to get all the animals skinned and sampled and I basically didn’t do any Harriet missions for the entire week. The cool down is definitely consistent with the 72 hours. And also as a tip, if you know your cool down is set and are able to spawn a legendary, just go to the spawn location at the correct time and if it doesn’t spawn just join another lobby. I don’t know if it’s because of the small lobbies at the moment but every time I would hop lobbies I would always get the animal to spawn on the first try. Like I said, this is my own input and it’s all thanks to your information that I was able to test it out my self and everything you’ve said is completely spot on.
Yes mate great and in depth comment. I have started a paper list with all I need using that list in the description. Whenever I encounter a legendary I write the date next to the name. Also a list for each animal as to what it needs. Skin, sedate, sample and what not. I cross them out as I go to avoid opening the compendium upon encountering a legendary. Just a few other useful tips lol. Not only have I had all of the garments since week 1 but I am very close to completing every compendium entry now too. It is very effective to have all information ready at a glance rather than fumbling through the satchel for any encounter lol.
I just found the white Bison after about a month of searching, & got disconnected from the server after I took the photo of the animal smh all I could do was laugh.
I suspected this happens. I was helping a friend to advance levels on Naturalist. We did several missions. All legendary animals disapeared from my map. I'm looking for the Sun Alligator and Night Pather. Spent hours and hours and never found them. It's because I did the Iwakta Pather and the Alligator missions from Hariet.
Today was a good day, I've got all animals, regular and legendary at 100% in the field book, and all 10 samples for every regular animal stocked up for a double cash event week. Once the remaining 7 unreleased legendary animals are added, stamped and done 100%, I will keep them all stamped so don't have to interact with Harriet ever again, or at least as few as possible. Good luck to everyone hunting!
Nice I have all of the regular animals stamped and just need a few bits from 3 of legendaries. 2 of them being the 2 moose added today. I am just going to leave mine stamped. I have over 30 collectible sets and counting ready to sell in case of any battle pass release lol.
I believe there was a cooldown for the same animal and species but I’ve debunked this because all by myself I spawned the ozula elk, next day by myself I spawned it again in the exact same place. This was two days ago
There does seem to be rare exceptions but on the whole from spending an extreme amount of time hunting legendaries, solo and in teams. I do believe the observations in this video to be very accurate.
Wondersgta Gaming I like your video and your thoughts. It could be a one off but it still happened. Have on other occasions found the same species of animal a few times in same day. I believe they’ve upped the spawn rates and altered cool down times. I also have spent a lot of time on the animals (daily), so just giving my experiences
From what I have experienced myself personally the observations are very true. I may face the possibility that finding a legendary may only severely reduce spawn rates for that species. A few people have come forward with a similar account to yours but I still stand by the advice of avoid the Harriet mission relating to the species you are looking for in free roam. Thanks for the great input dude. This is how we all learn.
Wondersgta Gaming I feel the winyan bison is one of the rarest to find in free roam, but don’t think it’s got a connection to Harriet’s missions. It’s just hard to spawn. But maybe you’re right. Could always do a test by doing every species in Harriet’s missions back to back and then see if any legendaries spawn in the free roam after completed all species missions. I may do it and fill up my hunting wagon and let you know the results
Nice R&D. Now i figures why recently its frequent for me to get the Ghost Panther coz I keep skipping Iwakta Panther mission. Guess i hv to wait 72hrs for the Nightwalker coz i just killed the Ghost..
I had been searching for the winyan for more than a month, and I did the payta sighting mission pratically every day, so when I heard about this cooldown thing, I stopped doing the sighting missions, and guess what? I found the Winyan on day 12, day 15 and again today. Also, I just checked my friend's chat, with whom I always shared whenever I found a legendary, and what do you think? Everytime I told him about an animal I had found, they were always 3 days apart. How did I not see the pattern? It's unbelievable the amount of information hidden by rockstar.
Thanks for the in depth comment buddy. I originally did not think there was any relation to the Harriet missions affecting free roam spawns but the idea was posed to me and I did my research in game. I am convinced that all the information in the video is true. If you would like to join the discord for help looking for the legendaries feel free it’s very friendly and linked in the description.

This has happened to me sometimes but other times it just wont spawn with the ozula elk I had not gone near or done a sighting mission with other elk and I had not found one after 10+ hours of searching
The Ozula Elk can be problematic. It will spawn eventually however. Just avoid the Iname Elk mission. Since doing this and making a note of when I last did a Harriet mission I can predict the exact day and time I will get my next spawn.
Urgh... Winyan bison. I hate that one. Never seen it in Ambarino but once I saw it in New Hanover (and no it wasn't Tatanka 😉). That was before I got the Naturalist role so I ended up with a lovely coat but since getting the role, still no dice on it in Ambarino and I can't remember where in New Hanover I ran into it. The spawn times and conditions in the Field book are no help cos they seem totally random or borked... sighs.
Yeah the winyan is a nightmare. Sometimes it does spawn in the Heartlands in the place of the Tatanka and some other legendaries appear in the wrong place too. Yeah the spawn times and weather conditions in the book mean nothing. I have had all legendaries outside of the times and weathers listed.
Ok... I can confirm as of today (4 May 2021) the Cooldown is NOT 72hrs. Unless it was a glitch or I got lucky- managed to get the Tatanka Bison to spawn in twice within 2hrs (probly closer to 1hr). I would think a 72hr cooldown would affect you regardless of how many times you changed session but I went to my camp, which was luckily near the Tatanka main spawn point, heard the roar and got the ? and BAM... I made Cripps a very happy man.
Ahh now it makes sense why I cant find them, I didn't know the Harriet missions put them on cooldown :/ probably why I couldn't find the gators cougers and wolves for ages :')

Yes indeed. That is a very common tactic that I myself have done with friends countless times. Just discuss what cooldowns you are both on and help each other. Make sure you pre agree on who gets what beforehand.
The emerald wolf seems non existent even knowing this information, I've been searching for like 5 days now and it's been at least 72hours since I'd seen another wolf legendary.
@@wondersgtagaming I just got lucky yesterday and it decided to spawn in as soon as I joined a session. Hopefully the onyx one decides to do the same in a few days but if not oh well lol I'll get it eventually.

Nice. There does seem to be some exceptions to the rule. I think if there isnt an absolute 72 hour no spawn cooldown then it at least seriously nerfs the spawns.
I have had a few bugs with Legendary pelkts where once they have been "dropped" then I have been unable to pick them up. It does happen and I do not know of a fix unfortunately.
Agreed. I know of people having major issues with legendary spawns hence why I keep making guide videos covering all of the different aspects of it lol.
Is there a cool down on legendaries because I put down the spirit bear for the sample and then went back to kill it but it was gone and now its not spawning...
For example, if I do the Kermode bear quest, does it affects the Winyan bison's spawn in the free roam mode? Because it's a different animal quest And if I have hunted a legendary animal in free roam mode, does it affect the generation of another in the same mode? Finally, is there someone in your discord to help me find and hunt the legendary animals? ;-;
I would recommend avoiding only the Harriet missions that are of that particular species. Also if you need help on PS4 then please join my Red Dead Online discord and ask around in the PS4 chat for assistance. I play on PC.

Hello dude, I have a problem. It's supposed that 72 hours passed after I did the Ram Mission, but a friend found the Ram and let me to take the sample, and now I can't find any Ram, do you think it affected the cool down?
As far as I know it will only be the person who started the mission or who got the spawn that will get the cooldown but I cannot fully confirm. Best advice would be to avoid any unnecessary encounters while looking for the right animal. Including not getting involved in your friends hunts if you want a pelt from that type of animal.
Yes because you killed it- apparently if you kill, skin, sedate, or sample any legendary- boom... cooldown. Which sucks if someone nips in and skins it or so on.
Yes a few people have reported getting animals within the "Cooldown time" but I think there is still some major spawn chance penalty at very least for doing the Harriet missions and encountering free roam legendaries.
@@wondersgtagaming You could be right. I suspect there WAS a 72hr cooldown for Legendaries at some point but like everything R* touches it gets turned off, on purpose or accidentally. It makes sense to have a cooldown on the missions but the ones in the field which are random enough is just plain daft.
@@arkie14 Yeah mate there are strange things going on. I suspect there may be a severe spawn penalty on the cooldown so while not impossible to spawn another it is statistically very low. hence why you get a lot of people who at one time or another have had 2 of the same within 72 hours or any within 48 minutes but those stories are few and far between. Never experienced it myself without other players most probably being the ones who did the spawning.
I cant get the legendary panther to spawn even though i completed all of the necessary things. I am playing as Marston now. I am not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Does anybody know wether there is a cooldown in which you are not able to find another legendary animal from different kind? Eg. if I have found a beaver will I be able (if lucky) to get a fox instantly?
Hiya mate. If you get a legendary animal of any kind even Harriet missions there will be a 48 minute cooldown until you can find any other animal that isnt the same species.

Does changing the date in your ps4 help them spawn faster? I was hunting the ghost panther when another player killed me and took the pelt for himself 😭
I am very sure that changing date and time will not affect spawns as I believe they are handled on the server side. Please let me know if you have any luck with that though.
I’m testing it out rn but I think so too I was looking for the moon beaver and I found it within 10 mins unfortunately it ran away in the water. I’ve been trying to lobby switch but I will update this comment if the 72 hr cool down is a myth
I think they will still spawn in and you can still skin the animals and sell the pelts to Gus to buy the garments but you will not be able to sample animals to fill the compendium. Also you will not be able to access to Harriet missions. Also there is a perk at level 14 naturalist that boosts chances of spawning the legendaries. Highly recommend to get the role it is well worth it.
Well at least you have the information now. Just make a list of what you need and note the cooldown times in relation to the Harriet missions. It is super efficient.
Best advice. Avoid doing the Ruddy Moose mission from Harriet. Ride or wait around Barrow Lagoon north of Big Valley and Cattail pond. It will spawn near the frozen lake. Not too difficult to find due to the small spawn area size. Within 10 minutes you will know whether you are going to get it or not.
@@swagskeletonlord662 Ok just make sure to note any animals you have encountered to track respawn times. it makes things much easier and saves loads of time waiting for spawns that probably will not happen.

Any tips on bringing them down faster. I have to shoot them 100xs free aim. I'm shite at free aim too.
Use the varmint rifle with sedative rounds to bring them down real quick.
Haven’t done those missions for awhile and still trying to find animals
I skinned the sun gator and was attacked by another while holding it. I cant pick up the skin now, anyone had the same problem?
I have had a few bugs with Legendary pelkts where once they have been "dropped" then I have been unable to pick them up. It does happen and I do not know of a fix unfortunately.
@@wondersgtagaming it’s stupid
I found the snow moose super fast but its been 3 days easy and no way is the nightmoose spawning, Spawning in this game still sucks ass
Agreed. I know of people having major issues with legendary spawns hence why I keep making guide videos covering all of the different aspects of it lol.
Snowflake Moose*
Is there a cool down on legendaries because I put down the spirit bear for the sample and then went back to kill it but it was gone and now its not spawning...
For example, if I do the Kermode bear quest, does it affects the Winyan bison's spawn in the free roam mode? Because it's a different animal quest
And if I have hunted a legendary animal in free roam mode, does it affect the generation of another in the same mode?
Finally, is there someone in your discord to help me find and hunt the legendary animals? ;-;
So basically you say that if i want to spawn all the legendary animals is not to do Harriet missions
Also if you are on ps4 could you help me with 4 animals i need to get the 2 rams the snow buck and emerald wolf
I would recommend avoiding only the Harriet missions that are of that particular species. Also if you need help on PS4 then please join my Red Dead Online discord and ask around in the PS4 chat for assistance. I play on PC.
thnks now i know not to do shadow buck missions
Hey i have a problem i have been looking for the onyx wolf and then I found it 1 time but somthing was glitched with my game so I had to restart and loose the pelt but it has gone 72 hours and now it just won’t spawn for me or my friend
Hello there mate. Keep trying and it will eventually spawn again. I would highly recommend the solo lobbies glitch to increase spawn chances too.
The tip: Dont Do Harriet Missions for the Legendary that you wanna find in free roam.
Your welcome.
What if you sedate and sample the animals in Harriet’s missions?
I want the onyx wolf so bad for the coat but I keep getting the chalk horn ram every time I try to look for the wolf it’s so annoying
Keep doing the Rutile Horn Ram mission to ruin the spawn rates of the free roam rams and avoid doing the Moonstone Wolf mission. That should help.
Wondersgta Gaming ok I’ll try it, thanks
Wondersgta Gaming so I finally got the wolf, but I found out the reason why I couldn’t get it was because I wasn’t level 5 for the naturalist role
@@isakvalencia7719 Ahh ok. I levelled up the Naturalist so fast i never really took notice of the requirements for some legendaries. I will take it into account for future guide videos.
so i just unlocked level 5 of naturalist and did a shadow buck mission for harriet, and im currently trying to find the onyx wolf with no luck so far, so is it the same time of animal species or just any animal in general?
Around a 48 minute cooldown for all legendaries but a 72 hour/3 day real world cooldown on that species.
Not with the hassle stress or money you will waste looking for a fricking unicorn I'm done even if someone offered to help me I'd refuse over legendary animals 16 hours a day for 7 weeks that's just blasphemy and over 3k just looking solo force spawn nothing I just straight give up besides every man and his dog has them I'm a lil more original lol
Are you still doing discord
hi iv been trying to get the emerald Wolf and the chalk horn ram to spawn but having no luck any advice iv been watching your video not sure what I'm doing wrong
Is that 72 hours cooldown in RDR2 hours or real life time??
Hello dude, I have a problem. It's supposed that 72 hours passed after I did the Ram Mission, but a friend found the Ram and let me to take the sample, and now I can't find any Ram, do you think it affected the cool down?
As far as I know it will only be the person who started the mission or who got the spawn that will get the cooldown but I cannot fully confirm. Best advice would be to avoid any unnecessary encounters while looking for the right animal. Including not getting involved in your friends hunts if you want a pelt from that type of animal.
@@wondersgtagaming Thanks dude, you got a new suscriber!
@@franciscosanchez5660 Cheers dude. its much appreciated. I have several more guides in the works. Seeya again soon.
So I killed the golden spirit bear but some other guy skinned it and took the pelt will I still have a cool down?
Yes mate unfortunately.
Yes because you killed it- apparently if you kill, skin, sedate, or sample any legendary- boom... cooldown. Which sucks if someone nips in and skins it or so on.
Me and a friend figured this out but I still cannot get nightwalker panther the maza cougar or the red elk.
Best advice is to start a solo lobby and just keep trying. There is no real rhyme or reason to it.
I saw a wakpa boar yesterday and i juz encounter again tdy.... ??????
This video guide is for Online mode mate. I think you are talking about the story mode.
@@wondersgtagaming Okay. Thank you very much ^_^
Hey dude you know how to enter some locked interiors in rdr2 online like the bath in valentine?
I do not have a clue mate.
do the legendary animals in the harriet missions also spawn in freeroam?
Hiya mate. The Harriet mission legendaries only spawn in her missions.
@@wondersgtagaming okey
i got 2 midnight coyotes in a time of 20mins
Yes mate. There are exceptions to the rule. The spawn may have been triggered by another unseen player too.
I need help with Marble fox
Join the discord server linked in the description and see if anyone can help you mate.
Ok, Thanks!
most important thing is to do it in solo lobby
Yes mate agreed. For anyone interested in doing a solo lobby please check my very quick solo lobby guide here. ruclips.net/video/fxpXSujktno/видео.html
It sucks that all the cool legendaries are missions bc every1 will have them 😩
Agreed. The Sapa cougar and Iwalta panther being 2 great examples.
@@wondersgtagaming EXACTLY
@@wondersgtagaming the 2 i was talking about
Haha great minds think alike.
What's ur horse i get it doesn't relate to the video but it has great stats
Hiya mate. The horses shown in the video are the Black Arabian and then Gypsy Cob if I am not mistaken.
Oh thanks man! Really helpful! I'll, sub to you for the help thanks!!
@@Chille1722 Sweet! cheers buddy. Yeah the Gypsy Cob is the level 20 Naturalist one. It has a max health and stamina bar when fully bonded.
@@wondersgtagaming good speed?
@@Chille1722 I tend to find with the Nacogdoches saddle then all horses seem to be the same speed to be fair.
That makes sense thanks
Mt pleasure mate. I hope this helps to find those tricky legendaries.
@@wondersgtagaming ive got all the boars and buck pelts so im just gonna resupply cripps with the buck an boar Harriet mission for the next 3 days and then try again see if i have any luck
Yes mate please update me. My time is nearly up on the rams. I am going to put theory into practice tomorrow.
I found the onyx wolf but it spawnew under the map and i didnt kill him, i need to wait 72 hours?
Yes indeed mate.
if animal skape i need wiat 72 h ???
Hey me and my friend tryna hunt cougers and I was in his posse and we did a Harriet mission for the Sapa cougar will free roam legendary cougars like the Iguga cougar still spawn for me? Or no since I was in his posse
Sorry for the late reply buddy. Probably not for the person who did the mission but maybe for the person who didnt. I am doing my best to figure out all of this information but there is still much to learn.
@@wondersgtagaming that is fine I got my cougars to spawn again so I’m good 👍🏻
Does changing the date in your ps4 help them spawn faster? I was hunting the ghost panther when another player killed me and took the pelt for himself 😭
I am very sure that changing date and time will not affect spawns as I believe they are handled on the server side. Please let me know if you have any luck with that though.
@@wondersgtagaming so there's no method to skip the cool down? I want it for the treasure hunter
@@buumajin8850 I do not think so mate.
I doesn't work. I tried for myself. You have to wait the real life days to the animals spawn again.
72 game hours or 72 real life hours?
72 real hours not in game hours. I know. Its a long time.
I’m testing it out rn but I think so too I was looking for the moon beaver and I found it within 10 mins unfortunately it ran away in the water. I’ve been trying to lobby switch but I will update this comment if the 72 hr cool down is a myth
Do I need a role to hunt legendary animals
I think they will still spawn in and you can still skin the animals and sell the pelts to Gus to buy the garments but you will not be able to sample animals to fill the compendium. Also you will not be able to access to Harriet missions. Also there is a perk at level 14 naturalist that boosts chances of spawning the legendaries. Highly recommend to get the role it is well worth it.
That why I haven’t found any fucking Gators That’s pretty damn infuriating
Well at least you have the information now. Just make a list of what you need and note the cooldown times in relation to the Harriet missions. It is super efficient.
i need to find the snowflake moose
Best advice. Avoid doing the Ruddy Moose mission from Harriet. Ride or wait around Barrow Lagoon north of Big Valley and Cattail pond. It will spawn near the frozen lake. Not too difficult to find due to the small spawn area size. Within 10 minutes you will know whether you are going to get it or not.
Wondersgta Gaming I will try but I did the ruddy moose mission with my friend yesterday to get him it
Last night I tried for two hours for the snowflake moose and my friend was trying for the legendary knight moose
Last night I tried for two hours for the snowflake moose and my friend was trying for the legendary knight moose
@@swagskeletonlord662 Ok just make sure to note any animals you have encountered to track respawn times. it makes things much easier and saves loads of time waiting for spawns that probably will not happen.
i need snow buck
Low population lobbies have been patched for pc
It is hit and miss at the moment I think. I have been getting a mix of both.
@@wondersgtagaming it's gonna be a lot harder to find legendary animals
Not at all mate. Just do the solo lobby glitch. A completely guaranteed private lobby for you and up to 5 friends. Real easy and I have a guide for it too.
Forgive me......First
Nice. Instant snag!
Refreshing. Most people do *First!* and that's it I like the forgive me part thumbs up
Excellent etiquette lol
I feel like a *Second* child xD
Aww lol
Aya just chill out and enjoy the world, kill the legendaries that show up when they show up and enjoy the game ... people rushing through this like there's a deadline.
Your friends using legendary animal spawn cheats 🤣
I can 100% promise that is not the case.
I can’t find any legendary animals at all in free roam , I can’t complete the legendary animal field guide I’ve been playing for 2 almost 3 months and no spawning of any legendary animals … is there something I’m missing ?
