- Arch nemesis Crabby Appleton steals all of the trees for use in his private park.Tom and Mighty Manfred the Wonder Dog plot to devise a scheme to return them to their rightful places.From early 60s,probably 1961 or 62.
I remember this from when I was a little kid. My favorite line was always, "Crabby Appleton, rotten to the core!"
I remember these cartoons but haven't seen them in probably 60 years.
Many people born in the 1950's remember Tom Terrific (I watched him on "Captain Kangaroo"). These videos help with remembering the details.
This was the best thing on Captain Kangaroo! Better than most cartoons today!

I loved Tom Terrific with his funnel hat and Manfred his faithful dog and pal. I used to watch him on Captain Kangeroo in the late 50's and early 60's. Such fun and wonderful entertainment for a curious little child!!! I miss good old fashion cartoons .
Tom Terrific, created and directed by Gene Deitch, was originally broadcast in two 13 episode seasons between June 10, 1957 and Dec 15, 1958. Each episode was broken into 5 segments, which were shown on a Monday through Friday on "Captain Kangaroo", who specifically commissioned these cartoons. Crabby Park was Ep 7, Season 2, originally broadcast the week of Nov 4, 1958. Thanks. I started watching Tom when it first came out on Captain Kangaroo on the small black-and-white TV we had. I loved Manfred, and looking back, Crabby was rotten to the core.

Every kid in the 1960s knew who Crabby Appleton was - plus Oil Can Harry, Black Pete, Bluto, Goons, Snidely Whiplash, Blacque Jacques Shellaque, Boris and Natasha, Simon Sinister, Yosemite Sam, Wiley Coyote, Sylvester the Cat, Witch Hazel, and others that slip my mind.
I'd forgotten Crabby Appleton had his own theme song.(Chuckle!)

You'll probably also remember that Crabby Appleton was also the name of a rock band (named after the Tom Terriffic villain) who had a hit single on Elektra Records in 1970 with "Go Back." I certainly do.

Hard to believe Lionel Wilson , who did all of the voices On "Tom Terrific" spent the last years of his career doing the voice of Eustace Bagge on "Courage The Cowardly Dog". Eustace sounds like an older, more gruffier Crabby Appleton.
