I believe it's a custom built locomotive, using the base of one of the official Lego locomotives. I'm sorry I can't help more, hope your son can make it one day!

WELL DONE MAN FULL RESPECT. I just want to say something that could’ve made the movie more better. In the scene where train 7375 attempts to slow down 777 it was missing it’s 2nd train that was coupled behind AKA train 7346, since in the real movie 2 trains were used 7375 and 7346
