      Please ride safely and defensively! Drivers just don’t notice bikes and will pull out, sideswipe, cut off, or otherwise treat you like you’re not there. No use getting upset, just accept that you’re smaller to see and easier to miss. Watch the front wheels for movement. Best way to tell if a car is starting to slowly move forward. If you want to live, ride like you are a rabbit surrounded by wolves. If you ride without caution it can end up badly. Please be safe! 😄👍

    I've had a 82 Yamaha SECA 750 for the past 8 years, riding it and keeping it running bring a certain joy you can't get from newer machines. Spent two summers fiddling with it's four (count 'em, four!) carbs before I finally got them dialed in right, and this summer has brought it's own maintenance in the form of a new wheel bearing. Still, well worthwhile.

    • @BusHuxley

      Jacob Russell Awesome bike! They are so damn cool. I have a 1972 CB 750 as well so I know about the four carbs. Can be tricky to be sure. They fun though. Wheel bearings aught to be a good job.

    I just bought a 1982 GS450T about two weeks ago! Then winter showed up in Iowa with a vengeance. But the bike has been meticulously maintained and I can't wait until spring! For now, winterize, winterize, winterize....

      Nice! That sounds wonderful. Iowa will be perfect for this bike. Winter came really early here too. It is 8 right now. I didn't get to run this bike once this year! Next summer. Thanks for the comment,

      My first bike was an 83 GS450T; courtesy of the Navy, I got to ride it all over the UK and on the Autobahn (max speed, 165 Km/h). I've had to tinker with the switches on subsequent Suzis (Katana & VStrom) - seems to be one of the few weak spots in these solid machines.

    Great video. Super job! I bought one of these new from the dealer in the 80s. It was a 1981, same color. Your wheels and front disc brake look like they are from the 1982 model. The 1981 had different mags and a solid front disc brake. The bike is incredibly durable. I rode mine for over 60,000 miles across 31 states. When I sold it, it still ran beautifully. I tried several different exhausts on it, and a Kerker two-into-one slightly modified worked the best. I changed the handle bar to a flatter model, and the shift in my personal center of mass improved the handling substantially. Good luck with your future trips!

    • @BusHuxley
      @BusHuxley  6 лет назад +1

      Heck yeah! I am just astounded at the durability and versatility of this little rig. Last fall I took it deep into the woods on a steep, muddy trail that would be very difficult with an ATV and it preformed admirably. Thanks a lot for the tips and comments.!

    It's great to see you get the old bike running. I have a barn find 1980 GS450L that I have been wrenching on and riding for a few years. Two recommendations: 1. Replace the rubber line on your front brake. It is a maintenance item with a 2 year refresh interval. My guess is that like mine, yours is about 35 years overdue to be changed out, which is pretty dangerous. You might note the front brake feels spongy - that's a hint that it is time to replace. You can get a custom braided line from ebay, which is what I did after figuring out the stock parts are unavailable. 2. The regulator/rectifier in these bikes only regulate voltage on 2 out of the 3 phases from the stator. When your headlight is on (mine has a switch, yours might not) you are sending all the voltage the stator can crank to your battery. This can make bad things happen. I recommend a replacement unit called the SH775 from a Polaris, although it is too big to fit under the side cover. Anyways, happy wrenching and riding.

    • @BusHuxley
      @BusHuxley  6 лет назад

      Holy crap! Thank you so much for this fount of wonderful and useful information! Yes, my front brake is terrifying as all get out, and now i know why! I am used to bigger bikes and it is so fun be be down on this smaller one, but it is still a bike and I have to remember that. Thanks a lot for the part number too on the polaris part. Awesome. Now just a little more snow has to melt and I can dig the old bike out.

    • @snapoverst33r
      @snapoverst33r 6 лет назад

      No problem, I am happy to help out another rider. I came from sport bikes and honestly feel like I have just about as much fun on this old 450 as I did with much faster bikes. I am also waiting for the great melt to happen, but Maine keeps getting pelted with storms!

    • @BusHuxley
      @BusHuxley  6 лет назад +1

      Hey there. Yeah, I've had a slew of other, bigger bikes and I am having an absolute blast on this little rig. In the late fall last year I was riding on forest roads/trails with it with not really any problems at all. I am cognizant of the low pipes but its just so light and peppy. There is a young woman trying to resurrect an 81 450 and she reached out to me on this channel. I've offered what little I can for suggestions and thought you may be able to throw your two cents at the issue. ruclips.net/video/XDkM1YYq1U0/видео.html

      @snapoverst33r 6 лет назад

      They are great little bikes, aren't they? I have certainly been enjoying mine this spring up in Maine. I just did a few more minor maintenance items and cleaned the carbs and she is just purring. I will take a look at the other video and see if I can do anything to help.

Just want to know what size bars will fit on these as 1" bars from a Harley Sportster (I know, it's ok to laugh lol) didnt work on it. This is my first bike. Thanks for the video as this helped me learn a lot more!!!

    • @BusHuxley

      Heck yeah! Yes, bike, wonky bars like that make it so much harder to steer than stock. I don't know off the top of my head what size they are but ill take some measurements tomorrow and post it here. It is a really ideal first bike for all kinds of reasons. I would like even flatter bars than I have on here now, but am not going to take the time and go through the trouble to mess around with that. Thanks a lot for the kind comment.

    • @BusHuxley

      So the bars are indeed 7/8th thick and they rise about 7 inches and run back to the terminus of the grips about 10 inches. They would be perfect I think for you. My gangly arms are hanging down to my legs when I ride this but it is still an incredible amount of fun. I don't know if you saw this one, but it functions like a dirt bike too! ruclips.net/video/zboP4FRpi1g/видео.html

      Bus Huxley yeah I've been looking around for a good pair. I'm definitely on a budget and the starter motor went out on this thing. I tried connecting the battery right to the starter and got nothing. I'm completely lost on this as I'm not finding any videos on how to take the starter out on this particular bike and clean it. Its $100 plus shipping for a brand new starter and I just dont have that kind of money. Think you can make a video if you have the time? I'm aching to learn to ride, and shes pretty much ready to go other than cosmetics. I can take a quick video of her and post it and you can see what I'm working with.

    Addyston Police Officer Shot
    July 13, 2006 at 12:50 AM EDT - Updated July 1 at 1:05 AM
    A police lieutenant from Addyston is home this morning, after being shot right in front of the police station Wednesday afternoon.
    A spokesperson for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department says Lieutenant Dave Pahner was leading 18-year-old Joell Lewis to the police station when the Lewis pulled a 9 millimeter handgun and shot the officer. Lewis ran across the street to the Lanxess plant where officers from neighboring Cincinnati soon found and arrested him . A Hamilton County Park Ranger found a gun in grass neart the shooting scene.
    The bullet hit Lieutenant Pahner's bullet-resistant vest and was stopped. He has been released from the hospital.
    Witnesses told FOX19 the officer got angry because he saw the man littering. They said Lieutenant Pahner is well-known and well-liked among people in the area.
    Addyston is a small village along the Ohio River on US 50 in western Hamilton County. The Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation.

      I think it takes maybe three quarts? I can’t remember. It’s still running very well.

    Very nice. Thanks for posting this. Question, though. You did all that work but didn't clean the carbs?

      Thank you very much. Yes, that is a good question. So I was really close with the fella that ran and parked this last back in 07 and I knew him to be the type of guy to winterize his machines well with stabil. I popped the bowls off and didn't see any varnishing whatever and figured I would tear into them if I needed to. I am really glad I didn't because over a year later now that thing is purring like a kitten still. I had it out today several times in fact. It is so much fun. Small bikes are wildly versatile.

    What is it that you do with old gas..

      I tend to save it and use it as thinner or cleaner for grease or to start fires on burn piles. That last one is a little hairy.
