Cole motivation is the fact that people never give him the proper respect and props. Kendrick is a Jedi now, trying to learn the true meaning behind the Force, and Drake has been organizing mall shopping music since 2016. Cole is about to learn some folk with this project.
This is facts. But I don’t think Cole too much cared about being #1 back when he made born sinner all the way to KOD. He was literally a storyteller in those albums. He just now coming out like he wants all the smoke. He just having fun at this point. And Drake really making music that he know gone sell. In my opinion I don’t think he care about being #1. Most just know the singles that make it to the radio. Cole been #1 to me. I stopped listening to Drake after views. Views to me was his last good album to me. Cole truly yours is so slept on. I've seen this take many places online of what Ice said regarding J.Cole wanting to be the best quality rapper, Drake wanting to be the biggest artist in terms of sales and recognizability, and then Kendrick wanted to be the best artistically.
My ears are probably messed up but I still hear Kendrick being able to be the best rapper and not just the best artist. I think his ability flow and the way he can say what he's saying without having to actually say is skill. J Cole is great as well and his content is fantastic, but I find he's a little bit more literal while with Kendrick there are layers and gis artistic ability is what actually helps him be a better rapper technically if you think about it.

People act like Kendrick has something to prove or he's supposed to drop constant albums and freestyles to compete in this imaginary race silly fans like to think Drake, Cole and Kendrick are in to remain on top of the chain when in reality Kendrick already solidified his position years ago let's keep it funky.
If anything, Drake and Kendrick got their validation and flowers a long long time ago because they mastered their different lanes. Kendrick with classic albums and Drake dominating the charts for more than a decade. Cole has always been the odd one because he hadn't mastered anything in particular in order for the majority to give him his overdue flowers. This kinda explains why he is still the most hungry between the 3. Now he has sorted his shit out, killing features and people are more willingly giving him the respect he deserves.
I hope he delivers with The Fall Off because if it is mid, people will permanently give him the bronze medal.

This album feels like it'll be do or die for him. I feel like "The Off-Season" didn't do as well as it needed to in order to be considered something like a classic. If Cole can elevate it even further, then I think most can't deny him his flowers any further. Hope he finally grasps the title

Drake has just been giving what he thinks people want to hear. I feel like Drake has been holding back a lot on his music and never gave us the lyricist side of him that people really want to hear. His Scary Hours 3 EP was so much better than 90% of the music he’s been putting out since Views days, just straight bars no gimmick shit. And this is exactly what Cole is bringing to the table, the true essence of rap and it’s working for him. Drake wants to transcend hip hop and explore other musical territories but personally I think Drake should just let the dragon out of him and stop playing, give us more rap music. As for Kendrick though, well he’s been inside the house for too damn long, he should be more active cause we miss his music.

I’m hoping this is Cole’s Classic body of work .. he’s right there with Dot but slightly below because of the bodies of work difference but his features are approaching 3K status the last couple years
Love Kendrick. I got him #3 behind Drake & Cole. I have ALWAYS had him #3 to be honest. Brilliant artist but I just don't connect with his music on the same level as I do with Cole and Drake. And outside of GKMC I'm not sure the 'hood' does either.

Rap ability isn’t the only ingredient to pay attention to, Drake consistently drops great music and creates moments in the culture. He doesn’t just “rap” like Cole, that’s where Drake gets more points for me
As of late, Cole has had more core Hip Hop 'moments' than both Drake and Kendrick AND he's been rapping better in the eyes of many core Hip Hop fans. Historically Drake has had more for sure.

Drake is the biggest. There's no catching him because he originated out of Weezies camp and has had star power at his disposal from jump. Cole and Kendrick are self made, Cole is the best. He's put in the work on wax although Drake's masterpieces get overlooked because of his commercial hits. Kendrick is in a different lane and doesn't have an issue commanding attention for his spot among the greats.
Cole came in under Hov's wing and Kendrick had the Dre assist. They all earned their spots but cut through because of affiliations from some of the big homies.
This is sooo nothing new for Cole. He’s doing this because of his work ethic. His feature game been crazy since 2018 at least. He has been considering where he’s at in his career looking at how he wants to go out. He’s had all his albums since KOD planned out as per his intentions.
