Hugo Junkers was a brilliant man, it's sad the way he died, but he lived a glorious life and the fact that he was willing to let everything he had built go shows what the brand stands for; and that is freedom which is priceless. RIP Hugo Junkers.
I do work in the Aviation Industry and I can see why this design is attractive to many of us that are involved in the Aviation world. I have 3 Junkers that get 90% of use on my wrist compare to my Rolex, Omega and Seiko. Is it a Respectable Brand? is it a vintage fashion?it is a tool, period. A tool-instrument that gives information with the accuracy required for Aviators/Technicians.We do not count 1/100 seconds accuracy in Aviation, leave that to your Fujifilm XT3 DSLR.
A useful and informative vid. The history was particularly enlightening as I was unaware of the background. Mistakenly, I had assumed there was an historical connection. Thank you very much.
Very good review. I have had the Junkers 52 D-AQUI automatic version with the ETA 2824 movement (date and time) which loses about 8 seconds per day, for 11 years. Still works well. No complaints. Solid trusty watch.
Thanks for this very honest review and opinion of this brand. I must completely agree. The fact that these companies are using a name to try to connect with a particular history is at best disingenuous. There are many other German brands that offer much more and while being maybe more expensive, are at least genuine. Great video. Excellent content as usual.
I own a Junker Bauhaus automatic with power reserve and a 24 hs indice in a beige dial, really beautiful. I love it. Too expensive, but so nice that I can’t complain.
Great video ! I own a Junkers Bauhaus 6060-m2 automatic and still very happy with it despite the +-450€ price tag. As you said, you don't see that brand on many wrists and the production is impeccable.
I have one that's 15+ years old that I wore daily for about half of that time and it is still going strong. I would say: if you like the looks, buy it.
Thank you for your thoughtful review, and also for pointing out the positive aspects of the watch. Something has always rubbed me the wrong way since the first time I saw a Junkers watch, because it seemed like a money grab by people who want you to assume it actually has a historic connection with the aircraft manufacturer. I know many (like myself) would be prone to dismiss the watch right away, but I'm glad to know that the quality of the design holds up to scrutiny, even if this doesn't end up on my to-buy list.
Very informative video. I'd like to see in-depth profiles on all the German watch companies.....and you're the guy to do it! Maybe you can do videos of you visitiing the companies; which would be fantastisch, informativ und wunderbar.
Actually, from what I've seen so far, not really. Look at the top section of the German watch section on WatchUSeek and German watch knowledge abounds. You'll learn the difference between manufacturer and assembler, German owned but not German products, and just flat out ACTUAL German versus Germasian.
I'm suspicious about any watch named after a company that made aircraft for the Luftwaffe. Not only is there Junkers and Zeppelin, there is also Messerschmitt, Heinkel and Dornier brand watches. None of them have any connection to the names and trade marks displayed on them. As an example, the original Messerschmitt company is now part of Airbus Industries, they never made watches and don't today ... the watches bearing the name Messerschmitt are made by a company that can be tracked down to Hong Kong.
@@phmwu7368 There are authentic German watch manufacturers that used to make time pieces for aviation in WWII period. However, I don't think it's any of those relatively popular brands that bear names of aircraft manufacturers.
The watch community has a strange affinity for nazi era stuff. I am not claiming that they have Nazi sympathies but many seem to dig the style. I.E: all the "Flieger" watches.
I liked your video very much. Many brands I believe are using the Russian 3133 movement. I have a French Landeron chronograph with the same one. Nice watch. From what I can tell about many Russian products is that they are not fancy, or carefully made, and they are a bit crude. But I think they are made to last.
how would you recommend the best watch collection time line, would you think to get the Grail watch 1st then work down to an example to Zenith, Tudor or Omega or the other way around, am thinking to start with a Tudor Black Bay, of a 6-9 watch collection, thank you
The reasoning for naming that movement 3133 is that the Russians modified it by changing the balance wheel to achieve 21600 bph..........................
Tim, Consider doing a profile on LACO watches, who have a continuous history producing German watches from before WW II. Authentic aviation watches? Your presentation would be a good and worthwhile video. Danke.
Ironic - Russians were know to steal engineering from the Germans (example is the Ural based on the BMW) and now the Germans are using Russian parts. Great video I enjoy your channel; IMHO your's is the best watch channel. Thanks.
Yeah everybody knows about Russians taking German machinery as war trophies, but somehow nobody talks about Soviets buying Ford equipment, Boeing licenses, about Soviet-German trade agreements in the 20s
Great Vid. I feel Junkers steels designs from other watches. Oftentimes feels similar to Junghans which is a much better German brand with real heritage
There's Junkers Eurofighter 6826-5 Chronograph retailing for ~$2000. Is it justified? Why is ot so much more expensive than most other Junkers watches? Thanks!
Hmm. Five hundred dollars full retail price. The question is whether to get a Junkers watch or to hire a gorgeous Russian courtesan for three hours....Still thinking. Either way, one can enjoy the marvelous Russian movement.
I, like you, find the look and function to be quite nice, and it fits well with different occasions and styles ...i did have one problem, that the stem just 'fell out' during time-setting, and no warranty on that! Argh! And, one more, small thing, the triangular Junkers 'badge' fell off, so now I need get the crystal off and re-glue that badge...otherwise, the one I have is quartz, dual time (I used to travel about 30 times per year) it keeps good time, battery life is good, the strap and fastener are very nice, so, I enjoy wearing it. I, for one, do not feel ANY connection to any Nazi issues, since I am better-informed about Junkers history. Oh, and, in summer, I sometimes hear the rumble of an Iron Annie in the sky near my home :-)
Hi pick up nice second hand wind chronograph made by junkers looks very well made keep good time I have a few Swiss made chronograph and the junkets is no poor man watch in my opinion they as good as any mid range Swiss chronograph pick up mine at very good prices very happy with it try buying Swiss hand wind chronograph for less than 200 pounds does not happen
It is a nice looking watch and appears to be of a high quality. Yet, this would be an expensive watch for me and it isn't really connected to the original company. So, I don't know.
Thanks for watching! For me the really evil names are Heinkel and Messerschmidt, because as far as i know they were only designed for war. The Ju-52 was kind of a flying bus which was forced then into service.
Wow, it took me 2 days to realise that you referred to the pronunciation "junk". Now i got it! :-D You're right! For a natural english speaker "Junkers" certainly offers another connotation. Poor brand ...
So the company has no connection with the original Junkers company. How important is this? In my opinion, not that important. Rather than just cynically say that they’re riding on the wings of someone else’s name, I’d like to think of the choice of name as clever marketing. At least it gets people curious about the name and in turn they learn something about German aviation history. Are the watches well made? Probably. Are their designs interesting/distinctive? Most definitely. I’ll definitively buy one in the near future.
Pointtec is not like ETA, they don't "make" or engineer stuff, they assemble parts however the Junkers brand is decent for a lower price point. Zeppelin are just fashion watches and IMHO just garbage.
I was about to buy one Junkers, it was a pre-owned with ETA inside at 200 euros, but someone bought it before me. The thing I cannot bear is that you can find Junkers powered by Poljot, ETA, Miyota, quartz ecc ecc . In My opinion this looks very unprofessional. By the way, the logo on the dial is ugly
Both Junkers and Zeppelin are very bad , maybe , just maybe if you find one for 200e, but other then that ... Even Junghans is far from good. Could you do a review of Nomos line of watches ?
You cannot fly by, drop a bomb about Junghans, then leave without explanation. Junghans is historic, innovative and produces a quality product with horological pedigree. Please, enlighten us, as to how they are "far from good" as you wrote.
Hugo Junkers was a brilliant man, it's sad the way he died, but he lived a glorious life and the fact that he was willing to let everything he had built go shows what the brand stands for; and that is freedom which is priceless. RIP Hugo Junkers.

I liked the idea of a german watch.
Hi, I just wanted to say that I love your channel and I'm glad to see its growing. Interesting video.
Very interesting. Sounds like one could compare Junkers to Dan Henry which is also a new company referring to historical watches..

great review, if I could I would like to match the watch with a nice aluminum sheet metal carry on suitcase for added style (Rimowa)
Really good idea!
Good video and great presentation. Try getting a soft box for your light, your glasses make shadows on your face
Just bought a Junkers Cockpit watch with Miyota quarts movement. Not great fan of quarts, but the watch is beautiful!
Informative, thank you.
I learned a lot about the company, good video.
Point tec now makes the iron annie. Thoughts on those ?

Trying to get their piece of the cake of the "vintage" look-alike wrist watches based on the real vintage wrist watches vibe/hype currently going on !

Junkers and Zeppelin are manufactured by Pointtec in Germany and always have been.
@Opened Eyes: Huh? I don't think that I said that. BTW: I own a Rolleiflex and several Leicas and drive a VW.
i bought from Düsseldorf airport in 2002 still using it never created any problem.

I would always start from the bottom. You gonna make experiences which will affect your taste and then also your grail watch.
got it, I think I will get a Tudor of some kind to start and work up, but sideways to, thanks so much
The reasoning for naming that movement 3133 is that the Russians modified it by changing the balance wheel to achieve 21600 bph..........................

Do you think Colonel Klink wore one?
I don't think he'll get that reference, but you made me laugh. That was a great show!
He knows nothing!
Junkers family now produces Junkers watches under the same name.
like always , interesting video, where did you bought this watch?
In a watch forum.
My favorite Junkers is still the Ju-87
You know that this was a very nasty bomber, don't you? ;-)
Caseback Watches of course I go German aviation is a rich history.
The JU 87 isnt an evil machine....the germans flying them were evil .. ya vol
Can you please review Zeppelin line of watches from Junkers?
I will consider this, thanks for the hint.
I’m waiting for the J1 to come in the mail. Dial looks nice, tribute to 1915 J1 plane I guess. Hope I don’t get buyers remorse.

You're not going to find a new watch with 7750 under $1000. 2000 maybe is a bit much but you can find it new in US from $1300

Das Poljot ist natürlich nicht "nahezu identisch" mit dem Valjoux...ein kurzer Blick auf die Werkdatenbätter könnte die Informationslücken schließen!
It is a nice looking watch and appears to be of a high quality. Yet, this would be an expensive watch for me and it isn't really connected to the original company. So, I don't know.
I know you pronounce it differently than it looks but still! I just could not have that name on my watch. But informative video!
