Clean board with IPA. Check all ribbon cables with magnifying glass, look for tears /damage. Clean ribbon cables too if discoloured. Also check for any corrosion from water damage on the board.
12:38 is really weird, that only comes up when you plug headphones in and pretty sure the psp street doesn't have a button for changing the eq like the other models do
Yeah, that only shows when you press the little Music Note button not on this version of PSP. I think this console has either board damage or water damage.
Just a quick heads-up about the 'Street' E1000 - it doesn't have wifi by default. Just another of those cost-cutting moves by SONY to get the original price lower, so if you want to install any CFW or homebrew you'll have to connect it to a PC with the data cable.
Hey james I've been a subscriber to your channel and you really helped me a lot especially hacking my vita. Your videos about vita really helped me so I think I might need your help with this problem about my ps2. I really need your help about this I need you time sorry for that, just your opinion on what really happened to my ps2. Please leave me a reply if you can have some free time about it. Thanks a lot
mine was alive until i tried modding it with infinity today. I soft bricked it. Then tried unbricking it and tried removing the battery but ultimately broke it after i janked the cable in the wrong way. Going to order a new motherboard and try to fix it myself and save myself 100s of euros. Going to be far more careful than james. (had my psp since 2011 or 2012)
I've had a PSP E1000 have this issue, and it could be a faulty emmc chip, or some bad CPU solder joints as I remember as a kid I dropped mine on the floor on accident, literally half a foot off the ground and then mine started having performance issues. Then after trying some button combinations to reset the settings, I was able to boot the PSP but it was really slow. Then after it froze it never returned. RIP 2013 PSP Street I got as a Xmas Present :( Still feel guilty now. These street models are quite unreliable when dropped.
I absolutely hate people who smash "faulty" or "broken" electronics (you know, the ones that look "dead" to a normie but can still actually be fixed). Good find btw! Also, those electronics haters just give you lame excuses, just get whatever electronics you can still get from them, they dont have enough charge to electrocute you, nor erase your DNA because of the "radiation" of the sticky stuff you will find on leaky caps, like the ones on the og xbox.
James sometimes if you touch the ribbon cables or mother board it can cause it to get dirty and cause your device to malfunction i cleaned the board of my camera and it turned out it was dirty, the smallest finger prints could make a difference
I never bother with the Dump... But i did get a 1 up on the dump staff where i traded some sofa cusions for a HTPC, The staff where LIVID but they couldn't do anything about it! I get all my E-waste from my library there is a bin in there, i just deposit my payment (junk i won't want) and occasionally I'll walk out with a Laptop, Stereo or VHS... Nobody seems to care and a couple members of staff actually are interested in my hobby!
Just picked up a Silver 2K and a Street. $100 for both. Condition on them is about 8.5 or so. Had to order a UMD so I can test the drives. I have 5 PSP’s and no UMD’s 😆. The Street has 6.60 Pro-C but the 2K has 6.60 Pro CME or something else. I forget but it’s a permanent. It’s not Infinity I know that. They cleaned up pretty well without taking them apart and so far seem to hold a charge.
I had the same probems with the buttons on a psp 3000. I bought new ribbon cables and it now works perfectly fine. These ribbons aren't expensive. I bought 3 packs with all ribbons for around 3$ I think. So defenitly worth it.
Ppl, turn the stuff off before you start touching touching the board and moving and disconnecting components...the unit shorted with he moved the screen before disconnecting the ribbon cable for the buttons
have you tried to use that "factory reset" key combination? It's supposed to completly reset the PSP and format it's memory to the factory image, however, if this is a soft-modded PSP, a cannot guarantee you that this will actually work... Sorry for my bad English by the way, greetings from Germany!
Hey man i have this exact psp and i want to mod it can you recomend me video or something i dont really know what i should do and also what is the safest way to mod it becase it is my last gift from my dad and i dont want it to get bricked
I was able to got my PSP street fixed when it got fully bricked only because it was in warrenty in 2011 and there is no other alternative to repair it👍
The screen turned off cause you shorted the board with the display metal bracket 14:28 on live powered surface mount components capacitors resistors etc. What a great idea huh? Just don't try work on stuff while its powered on especially plz. Cheers James
the motherboard has some fried rom chip so you need a new motherboard, the cheapest way ive found is to buy a psp with a broken screen on ebay and scavenge that one for parts to make 1 working psp, then you have spares like dpad, triggers, umd drive, charging port, thumbstick, the shell etc there are some psp repair videos on youtube and ifixit guides, its very easy atleast on the psp street (e1000), probably the hardest part is taking of the umd door :D also, there is no "fix, there is not a single button combination sony implemented into the stock firmware to boot the console, as its not even bricked. if you get it powered up its just pure luck.
you can use water to clean electronics but i only do it when i have to i got a ps3 controller that was filled with soda gunk and ipa wouldnt do anything to it no matter how much i rubbed then i tried hot water and it instantly dissolved :) just have to let it dry properly

Brushing the pcb of any electronics is a bad idea you're just gonna end up zapping it with static electricity.
Use a toothbrush, Paintbrush or antistatic PC brush.... I've never killed any electronics using paint or toothbrushes.
Send it to the RUclipsr "my mate Vince". See if he can fix it

The big ribbon cable looks damaged/punctured. The cable visible when you removed the screens.
