When my brother and myself were young, my father bought an old (but powerful) telescope - and we began to peer into the mysteries of the night sky - beyond the light pollution of Montreal. I can distinctly remember the wonder I felt, observing Saturn for the first time. I can imagine my father smiling, as I write these words.
I Don't see how it's humanly possible to watch this program & take in the information without feeling incomparably tiny. The telescopes that are world has been launching over the last 15 or 20 years are simply and truly amazing and it just gets better every day. I was watching the show and marveling at the fact that they could zoom in and the resolution was mapping time as we zoomed in unbelievable remarkable astounding I don't know any other adjectives that could really describe this thank you
I can see how some people could watch this, and immediately drop any pretense of morality. Like, “what does it matter what I do? I’m a tiny, short lived being on a tiny, nondescript clump of dirt and water. Floating around in a void too big to imagine and completely irrelevant”. It’s scary because it’s true. Logic that is hard to argue with.

Absolutely profound and fascinating videos. Thank you for blowing my mind. It's amazing how so much detail is revealed in a hubble picture by zooming in. Please make more videos!
It’s unfortunate that this channel doesn’t have more subscribers. You do an excellent job overall, between the information you convey, to the calming, relaxing music, and your voice. Carl Sagan would be pleased. Not all of the brightest astronomers and astrophysicists are able to communicate what they know to an audience of lay persons in a way that we can understand. You have that gift. It’s just sad that we have so much light pollution that it’s difficult, even with a good telescope, (a local university has one just a short drive away, but even it is difficult to view, due to the local light pollution) to see anything close to the detail shown here. Thank you for the care, effort, and attention to detail you have put into your videos.
PafMedic I live in Massachusetts. Light pollution is a problem almost everywhere in the eastern part of the state. The observatory was part of an upgrade of a local college to a university, and the observatory is atop a whole new science building. That’s a problem also, because anyone walking in lower floors of the building causes vibrations which affect the quality of the viewing. This isn’t just a problem with this university. Light pollution is a problem around the globe. Just viewing through the atmosphere is difficult, not just because of the twinkling, caused by the atmosphere, but because our atmosphere blocks many parts of the EM spectrum from reaching the surface. This is good for life on Earth, but tough for observers. I think the next step is an observatory on the far side of the Moon. That solves the light pollution problem, and we could build instruments that can explore across the entire EM spectrum. And “night” lasts two entire weeks. But this telescope is good for an introduction to astronomy, and it’s open to the public one night a week (though not now, during the pandemic).
If you think it all happened by chance, it's unthinkable that WE are here. For the complexity of life here on earth to happen randomly, 15 billion years isn't nearly long enough.

I have watched a video by this same RUclips channel where it would take 500+ million years for Voyager 1 to get to a point where a photo of the whole Milky Way Galaxy would be in the pic
@@chew76 yes, that nearest star is within our Milky 🌌 Way At the current technology, any manned mission would take about 170,000 years to reach Proxma Centari
Wow. I think I just discovered a new favorite channel. Amazing work, friend. I had never learned so much about our local group of galaxies in so much detail.
it still blows my mind that, although these stars look so densely packed, there’s trillions of miles between them. it’s inconceivable how massive our universe is. massive isn’t even close enough to describe the insanity of it. i’ll forever be fascinated and also sad that i cant experience these beautiful sights first hand with my own eyes. the only reason we can see these massive objects is because of their distance, to be able to see it with the naked eye would be incredible and impossible but we can daydream 💭
That's why we have our OOB senses, we're designed to be awed by the wonders of creation from direct observations. The caveman tools we are using right now are nothing in comparison to the secrets of our organic genome.
Absolutely stunning stuff. It makes the fascinating study of astronomy almost approachable to us English majors! Just really appreciate these programs. Nearly impossible for me to get my head around the massive scale of the universe. Thank you sir for making this tour so accessible to us!!
For sure the most informative and "democratic" astrophysical channel ...the music, the narrative, everything works together pretty well! Thank you for the amazing content and hope you keep doing new series !
Two years ago, I couldn't even tell you the name of another galaxy other than the Milky Way.... or the name of a star other than our sun..... Then by sheer boredom, I watched a video on UY-Scuti, which until recently was the largest know star in our universe. The size of that star, in which billions of our suns could fit into, absolutely blew my mind!! Now two years later my wife calls me a space nerd, and I've watched hundreds of videos on our universe, Mr. Butler, your videos are some of the most informative and beautifully illustrated that I've enjoyed yet! I vote that the next biggest star we discover be aptly named "The David Butler Star".

Thanks for making these videos. They answer a lot questions that are never really discussed in the popular astronomy videos that I watch on science channel and national geographic
I can watch this all day. So mind blowing. Great content. Thank you for your time and hard work
Spiritual in the best possible way. Thank you, David.
Glad Mr. Butler is back. I was so excited to see he has done more work recently. Thank you for keeping us informed.
David ought to have a million subs.
wonderful production, information and teaching method. thank Mr. Butler
When I see and learn about the universe, I can't stop thinking about how insignificant we (humans) are and how small compare to the entire universe or even the solar system is our existing and civilization.
Amazing video!
Mr Butler you make the most beautifull videos of YT. Thank you for this and all your work
Hello from Finland ☕🍰 I like too much you are video I'm very happy your video 4K 👍 you have big respect

Sir is an inspiration for all . Even at this age he is making one of the best contents on the internet . Thank you sir , thank you for everything 🙏
May God bless you with long healthy life❤
One day I will be like you✊
These Galaxies are beautiful but would love to see our Galaxy from their point of view!
That would be marvelous to say the least
When you get there, take a picture and send it to us :)
I have watched a video by this same RUclips channel where it would take 500+ million years for Voyager 1 to get to a point where a photo of the whole Milky Way Galaxy would be in the pic
@@angeloriggi6370 It would take voyager around 70,000 years to reach the nearest star from our sun
@@chew76 yes, that nearest star is within our Milky 🌌 Way
At the current technology, any manned mission would take about 170,000 years to reach Proxma Centari
Mr. Butler thank you for probably the only stuff on internet I can't help but listen to because it so interesting and deep!!!!!!
Always enjoy your videos, David. [thumbs up]
Thank you for your relaxing and informative talks on space. I especially love your music selections, they complement your voice well.
Nasa talking about a mars mission! Can't even launch the james webb space telescope on time. Loved the video and music!
Nothing humbles me more then centering myself around these creations and distances.
Absolutely stunning stuff. It makes the fascinating study of astronomy almost approachable to us English majors! Just really appreciate these programs. Nearly impossible for me to get my head around the massive scale of the universe.
Thank you sir for making this tour so accessible to us!!
Thank you so much for creating these videos. They are absolutely superb.
I thought it was very professional of you to describe the need for dark matter without pleading its actual existence. Extremely well done
For sure the most informative and "democratic" astrophysical channel ...the music, the narrative, everything works together pretty well! Thank you for the amazing content and hope you keep doing new series !
Wow the universe is both unbelievably beautiful and in a way sort of terrifying
It’s only terrifying if you’re paying attention
It terrifies me as well, as their must be a creator who made this beautiful creation, the one creator!
Greatly appreciate your work David. By far the best astronomy channel on RUclips
This was very informative and interesting. Thank you, for posting.
Thank you sir. That's all I have to say. People like you make You Tube a grate place to gather knowledge.
Thank you for the clarity, and flow...being brief, is well stated, my daughter, wife & I thoroughly enjoyed it!
