I’ve been playing monster hunter for 4 years and I still don’t know how the charge blade works
I've been spending some hours with it in world and I have reached some conclusions
Step 1 - slap with sword to charge phials
step 2 - put phials into shield
step 3 - slap with sword to charge phials
step 4 - Unga Bunga
Repeat until the monster is dead.

@@potatointhesky1232 Assuming MH Rise:
When unsheathed, hold A to do a charged slash. This is best for charging up phial energy in your sword.
You can combo that slash into a roundhouse slash with X for a little extra energy, or X+A to do a shield bash that comes out quicker, and let's you combo into a second charged slash (hold A).
Whether to do a roundhouse or shield bash + second charged slash depends on the opening you have, and whether you're using Load Shells (where yellow is enough for five phials) or not. You can side hop between sword attacks to reposition yourself while gathering energy. ZR + A to store your phials, which turns the yellow/red energy into phials.
X+A twice to go into an Amped Elemental Discharge (AED). You can also Guard or Guard Point (ZR + X while getting hit), then X+A to shortcut into AED. Cancel your AED with ZR (just mash) to store all your phial energy in your shield. Repeat previous steps to regain some phials now.
From here, it's all about playstyle, monster, and game. In Rise, you'll either be focusing on Axe Hopper, Spinning Axe, or SAED spam with Counter Peak Performance.
Axe Hopper and Counter Peak Performance use the same button combination (ZL + A), CPP instantly gives you 5 full phials on every successful proc so you can skip a lot of steps and either hold X after a CPP proc to go into Spinning Axe (if you equipped it as a Switch Skill), or X+A to go into AED/SAED (depending on whether you have red shield or not).
If you've equipped Axe Hopper, ZL + A will launch you into the air. Use A to land an AED on the way back down, aiming it with the analog stick to hit the monster's head for KO damage, or X+A to land an SAED. You can also access AEDs while on the ground in any CB moveset (even GU) by cancelling an SAED with "back" on the analog stick (in the opposite direction your hunter is facing) while hitting X.
If you're mostly playing with Spinning Axe, you'll focus on holding X after proccing CPP to bring out the Spinning Axe Mode, and move around in Axe Mode by rolling and using ZL + X to reposition yourself, or ZL + A to block and hold X to regain your axe.
Sheathing or morphing back into sword mode causes you to lose spinning axe. Use X, then A twice, then X again in Spinning Axe mode for the most damage. This is an upswing into Elemental Discharge 2, into an upswing, and repeat. Always hold your inputs while in Spinning Axe mode to get the most hits.
@@potatointhesky1232 just watch Gaijin's guide, basically slap with Sword until you get phials, when you have enough hold R2 and press the circle button(on switch it's A) to transfer the phials into usable ones, to use them hold R2 and press triangle(or X on switch) and you'll go into axe mode(R2 to go back to sword) in this mode hitting circle(or A) you'll do an attack that uses phials(they're the most powerful) this attack has a 3 hit combo which goes into the ultra slam. What you want to do to get your shield buffed up is when you transfer 5 phials into usable ones go into axe mode and at the same time press triangle and circle (X and A) and you'll instantly do the combo finisher and when it starts immediately spam R2 and it'll cancel the finisher and charge your shield, now with a charged shield you can hold R2 and circle, just like when transferin phials into usable ones, but you need to hold triangle(or X), you can let go when you see the character prepare himself for a slam after this you'll have a buffed sword. Basically just try to have the shield buffed, when it's not then do the finisher and spam R2 to buff shield and if you can buff sword, rinse and repeat(the shield being buffed also buffs axe attacks so there's that)

The reason you should play the charge blade is simple, it has an answer for everything any monster can do.
hit and roars block and guard point.
need to stick to the monster, sns mode and slide slash
Need to hit the monster hard, SAED
Need to stack up stun, AED
Big opening on the monster, raging axe mode
Monster either very tall or wont come down, Axe mode can most likely reach it.
Need element damage, it's got both rapid hits in sns mode and huge hits in SAED and Axe mode.
Its also probably the only weapon you can keep learning n ew tricks on even far after you have "mastered " it.
Such as using the dash slam to quickly move to a better position to SAED or AED the entire body or head respectively

Personally I just stay in SnS mode for the entire fight, and sneak in a guard point with the new Counter Morph Slash into SAED whenever possible.
Of course, I also spam the ever-loving shit out of Axe Hopper when I'm full up on phials.

Axe Hopper really is incredible for the SAED play style. Once I realized in can SAED 360 degrees in midair. I ditched CPP so fast.

As a GS main in Risr, I miss the 360 degree adjustments we can make from the slinger burst in Iceborne. This is making me want to try out CB again which was my first main in World.

@@Jaycan I've tried CB. While I like the additional silkbind moveset, what the hell did they do with the hitbox for the phials? The only time you can hit all of them in a SAED is if you're hitting the monsters longitudinally (and that's if the monster is big enough).

Counter peak performance is one of the most ridiculously overpowered moves in the game and I fucking love it

for few hours.. after a while you realize its really slow and clunky and later with load shell.. you really dont have to think much about trying to fill your phial and guard point is all i need.. also after getting used to Axe hopper.. instantly drop the CPP lol

Yes. Soon as I got gud with guard points, I dropped CPP and mained Axe Hopper since.
Charge blade became my main during world, replaced only by the longsword for iceborne, and rise makes it feel even better.
insect glaive was my main weapon in 4 ultimate and generations, im decently sure its because of the capabilities it had with regards to mounting repeatedly.
Hammer was my main weapon in 3 ultimate, which was my first monster hunter game, I remember grinding low rank duramboros for days to get a tailplate for the hammer, and thought I was badass with the full matching armor set. Ahh how simpler my brain was.
I'm with u,my first mh game is the original first mh game on PS2,but I only played multiplayer when MHFU came out,I had my full low rank Rathalos armor,feeling like a king in the world until I hit Grank stuff

The thing with charge blade is how much "easy to learn, hard to master" it is. The basic way is always "hit monster with sword then hit monster with axe", but then you always find better ways to do it, and I mean ALWAYS! One personall tip of mine is use the shield bash. It allows you to combo unto a lot of other important attacks, and you can trigger it almost always.
u forget the most hard to master on CB... the Guard point
@@5at5una yeah, it is one of those things that grant you a massive advantage if you can use it.
@@5at5una the guard point is not hard at all, I thought it was intimidating before I attempted to learn it, but it is surprisingly easier than I previously thought. Coming from a person who picked up CB when Sunbreak released, never guard pointed anything in any MH games previously. All I had to do was put the training dummy on stomp setting and practice away. After literally about 5-10 minutes at the training dummy, I practiced guard pointing in hunts without doing anything else; just solely guard pointing. And after like 5 minutes of that, I dropped Counter Peak Performance for Axe Hopper and never looked back. You can guard point damn near everything, pretty noice.
I’ve been a Hunting Horn main since Freedom Unite and have rudimentary understanding of SnS and DB, but I adore watching Charge Blades do their thing

Charge blade was my second weapon i ever played. I admit it is very awesome. Wish i had good timing with it tho lol. Sadly only played 60hrs est with it.
Taking a break from it to try other weapons like SnS. MH weapons are way to fun!

I started Monster Hunter with MH4U on the 3DS and the CB was the first weapon I learned to use. Despite what people think, it's easy to use, but you may need a little training first.
Its honestly a great weapon, its just i keep dying to tuff monsters, so i just use the greatsword for overpowered charged attacks to killem.(i also play mh4u currently)

So much nostalgia... I hope they bring colour varients to Rise, I think Rise needs them.
It's funny, because I started later with Mosnter Hunter Rise, and I went straight for the CB, though it took me a bit to get a hang of it, but when I did some prying online after reading the Hunter's notes to figure out a little bit of its inner workings and figured out how to get the filled Phials to empower the shield, I unlocked so much more possibilities in what I could do with the weapon and have achieved even hunting Narwa the Allmother solo!
Charge Blade is really only complicated *_on paper._* And I mean, ANY weapon can have some relatively complex plan of action, but Charge Blade basically REQUIRES that ahead of time planning.
However, once you're actually *_using_* it, it's really not as difficult as people make it out to be. Slap a monster with your sword till those bottles are Red, Charge. Make your Shield & then Sword (or Axe) Red, Discharge. Rinse & repeat process till monster is dead.
I just want savage axe back and some armor with actual slots lmao, I could start enjoying myself in rise again then
Fuck savage axe, i just want my SAEDs from world back. Recently i fired it up again and compared directly by holding my switch to my pc. Explosion size, hitzones and the hit effect are all way worse :/
Savage Axe just took an already great weapon and turned it into a fucking exploding chainsaw and I don't know how you can top that

@@TicTacMentheDouce it is, but they changed how it worked in world/iceborne. It replaces the move where you charge your sword up, you have to hold down the attack buttons for it to do the tick damage, but overall I personally like the some of the changes. I miss have to charge my sword because I hate dinking with the sword so much or use mind’s eye and having the guard point from saed to savage axe was nice and wished that didn’t change.

I really isn't confusing to use just takes time. To use it just attack in sword and shield mode to charge, store charges, transfer charges, big explosion or spinning axe, repeat
@@hunterokeefe9178 I'm a charge blade Master now, but its silly to say that I wouldn't confuse someone who's picked it up for the first time. Sure, you can mash buttons and get decent damage, but getting good takes knowledge and practice. Where most weapons can be figured out well enough within a few low level hunts

Way to get me excited for the PC release, this is my absolute favorite weapon and Axe Hopper had me hopping off my seat in excitement
your video on the CB in Iceborne got me into playing it, and I got pretty good at it. But that all changed when Rise came along, I spent like 86% of my play time mastering the CB and now it's my go to weapon in every MH game since 4 and will continue to be until the end

I miss the energy blade. Without a doubt, the most damage one could do with the CB was when you would pair the energy blade up with the limit breaker. If you had all three stages unlocked, you could sever any tail early in the match, except for monsters like Akantor and Ukanlos. Made SAED look outdated to me. Those were the days.😂

Counter peak performance is definitely more practical. But NOTHING has given me more hype than doing axe hopper to knock a flying monster out the air.
great video! I was really happy to know that CB is popular in overseas although the number of JP players using CB isn't large. I hope that more players use CB when SUNBREAK is comming out.

I decided to fully commit to CB in Rise and got addicted to so feeling so POWERFUL
And then you see Rapid bows, just pure raw even, dealing some 200'ish dmg every time they shoot, making you question whats all the flashy melee stuff is good for

Love both of Mob’s openings but season 2 is definitely one the best opening song/animation I’ve ever seen.
My only issue with this weapon is the monsters are too fast in Rise to GP->SAED. Like I can only SAED when they are down. Kind of forced to use the grasshopper mode or the axe. I like the "counter" way to play the CB. But I end up playing other weapons for my playstyle in Rise, while I was 90% CB in World.
once you play the game for long enough, you'll get used to what attacks give you a free SAED and what attacks don't. for example GP-ing a tigrex roar is a guaranteed SAED

CB was my main in World. With my Safi blade and armor set. Along with a friend, I managed to get my AR up to 2600. I know there's not really a point, but it was freaking fun trying to get max attack.

@@ultimasurge they are 2 cm tall, they are so small that even if they visually touch the monster, they actually don't hit it. It's still manageable and requires extra accuracy to land correctly a SAED, but when you have only 2 phials touching the monster because the phials go one pixel aside from it, it's just wrong

This popped into my recommended a while ago and decided to give it a watch. Originally I never really used the charge blade, it was a strange weapon that I didn't understand. Then I saw this video and I fell in love with the charge blade since I never knew it could become a chainsaw!
I've used it for the last two days and I think I'm getting a hang of the weapon and it makes me feel bad for the other wirebug counters, the long sword has a counter way longer than it has any right to be and the gunlance has the counter taken away as quickly as you activate it, charge blade's counter feels just right.
Man I’m a die hard hammer main through and through but you might have just convinced me to try run through the game with a charge blade.

As awesome as this looks, make sure to remember to know your quarry before attempting badass stunts..did something similar to brachydios in generations with aerial CB..bullied him into the dirt..a lot.
Also as a CB main from the 4U days, this just solidifies why I play CB
Currently a hunting horn(dancing boi) and duel blades(living chainsaw) main but I'm thinking about branching out to some different weapons like charge blade gunlance or heavy bowgun
As a hunting horn (unkillable healer) and dual blades (helicopter go brrrr) main who also plays hammer, lance, light bowgun, heavy bowgun and charge blade, yes, you should definitely branch out.
As Gun Lance main (cannon on a stick with a boyonett attached) main I say go for it. So satisfying being powerful
Haven't even played the game yet. However, I can already tell the Axe Hopper is the best thing to happen to the CB since the Energy Blade and Limit Breaker in Generations.

Still miffed theirs no wire bug equivalent of the Energy Blade art, shit was cash money when it hit and instantly shatters a monsters part.
It looks like weapons will be getting new abilities and moves and moves in Sunbreak like what Iceborne did for World, so maybe that and some of CB's other stuff could come back in some form?

Honestly I started my monster Hunter career when world came out and I started with the charge blade. When iceborne dropped I went full on longsword as my main and i went through base rise and sunbreak with it, so now im going back to my roots and building a pure charge blade character on rise.
It looks pretty good and the upstages seem cool, but I probably won’t play it. I was never good enough to get the timing down on the best combos for max damage and tbh I couldn’t defeat Fatalis in the first phase that you have to solo. After two weeks of trying I just gave up and deleted mhw 😔 not to mention farming 💎
