    Brings back memories. I drove a pump. In 1969 at the old fire station full time chester station was very bad to get out of as it was in the middle.
    Of chester right on a very bad road in the end chester council had to put up lights to stop the traffic. Had me + 3 great boys.
    We had 5 minutes to get on seen we had it down to when the bells 🔔 went down to 1 minute to be out on the road. And 4 minutes to get on seen .
    I drove my pump like a nuter. Had to .and if we got people reported...I drove hs fast as my pump would go. I love that job now retired I would love to ride
    A pump one more time before I die.

      Red Shutter Photography Guessing the low bridge is the one at Needham Market?- a short distance from Stowmarket and therefore probably the next nearest station 😊

    So retained means volunteer???

    • @docdaneeka3424
      @docdaneeka3424 5 лет назад +3

      no it means they are on call and paid for the time they are attending jobs. they are paid a retainer too, hence 'retained'

    • @lecou18
      @lecou18 6 лет назад +2

      You sure could; my uncles' told me stories of how they were in the shower or even in the toilet when their pagers went off.
