Ariana is so great that they didn't even discuss her impact as an Original Cast Member of Hamilton, both of them are genuinely great people and performers. Hope they achieve all they set out to.
This conversation is so real and exposing how tough it is for BIPOC talents to find jobs and feel confident in their skill set. Thank you Variety for this
I watched both Shang Chi and West Side Story (twice for WSS) and very glad to see diverse talents shine in their own way by being true to themselves. Also loved how Ariana takes the effort to pronounce people's and characters' names correctly as a sign of respect.
I always love Actors on Actors but especially to have these two POC, who are my favorite actors of 2021, meet each other and then feel like best friends who have known each other their whole lives, that makes me beyond happy.
INCREDIBLE insight on the industry and their own personal experiences on their strong roles! It's so refreshing to see these conversations being authentic in regards to how difficult but creatively fulfilling it is to perform a part that has immensely impacted diverse communities. Feedback from the actors in these types of work is especially super important so it was great to see Simu and Ariana break down the nitty gritty details of their movies which I would argue has made them pop out even more.
Thank you, Ariana, for being so conscientious and respectful about pronouncing Asian names. So often, non Asians don’t care about this (e.g. “karaoke” & “karate”).
I really enjoyed this conversation a lot. Both are super talented and I can’t wait to see what they do next. I remember before Shang-Chi came out I watched Simu do an interview on Jimmy Kimmel and loved how charismatic and passionate he was about the film. I haven’t seen West Side Story yet (not a huge musical fan), but I did see Ariana on SNL and found her to be charismatic as well. Also, I really appreciated in the interview how she wanted to make sure she got the pronunciation of people’s names right. As someone with a “difficult” name, it’s nice to see that there are people who do take pronunciation into consideration and don’t just blow it off.
Waow ! What a fantastic interview ! I'm super big fan of Simu with Shang Chi (been watching the movie like 5 times in theaters), but with this interaction, I now am also a big fan of Ariana. She seems to be such a grounded and lovely young lady ! And her catmeow was super cute too.
This is an unexpected pairing but they have a lot more in common than I expected. They both seem to be really cool people and I hope they only become bigger names as time goes on.
I really want to see WSS but I’ve heard some bad SA allegations about one of the cast members, Ansel Elgort. I’d love to hear other peoples opinions about supporting a movie with a cast member who may have something like that attached to their name. Personally, it makes it difficult for me to support the film
He is the weakest part of the movie but the supporting cast/Rachel and just in general the movie is fantastic. At the end of the day, just try and block out what terrible things he did and enjoy the movie. There is so much incredible talent in the film that it’s so easy to just forget about him because of them. Plus it’s just a genuinely good movie.
It was a really wonderful movie. The impact that it does for representation in the Latin community, and the message it leaves the audience is far greater. The entire ensemble of actors are so talented, the sound, cinematography, and choreography are really worth to see & experience.

The combo I didn't know I wanted but is absolutely delightful!
Simu Liu is a national treasure and can't wait to see Shang-Chi in a future MCU project.
even between camera lenses and monitor screens, you can feel their chemistry
Loved this! They are the embodiment of why authentic representation matters!!! 🙌🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
They’re making history, this kind of video makes me so happy. 2021 was truly a phenomenal year for representation in cinema
I liked this one. You could tell they were genuinely interested in speaking to each other.
Such a delightful conversation between these two incredible talents!

Also another thing is, the film was complete before the allegations came out so he was not cast after the fact.

But hey no one should tell you to watch something you don’t feel comfortable watching. :)
I'd get him for mortal kombat 2
