She immediately broke down... while we were watching this show.... so I get it man. I understand more than anything.

I've almost lost a friend a few months ago the same way, with the medics taking 3 days to finally reach a diagnosis. He aparently had eaten some unwashed produce from the grocery store. Just please, don't feel guilty about it. It's not your fault.
