Funny thing about Dark Messiah: It was intended as a reboot of the main series using the new setting and lore of Heroes V as a basis. However, Arkane would go on to develop many other projects instead of a Dark Messiah 2, so...
Way ahead of it's time in both graphics and gameplay. Apart from kicking enemies into oblivion, you can use a portcullis to kill a dragon, how cool was that!
I remember playing this game back when it released and how fun the kick was. Definitely a pretty great action RPG. Also as a fun coincidence I started Might and Magic VII myself just a few days ago. Apparently it's considered one of the best in the series if not the best, and it's definitely holding up so far, though it took a few hours of getting adjusted to how it plays. Definitely recommend giving your copy a shot someday. All you really need to get it to run well on modern hardware is the Grayface fan patch, which also includes a few quality of life changes and bug fixes.
A pretty cool game, back when Arcane were really good; amazing how the stealth mechanics from this game were one of the main ingredients to make Dishonoured. It's also a great case study of how to do a more action-based Im-Sim in a way, given how many carry overs from Arx Fatalis it had. Would be interesting for some one to play with the basis of Dark Messiah and see what more can be done, since Dishonoured decided to focus on a specific type of gameplay.
Dishonoured was pretty good. But this combined with an Arx Fatalis or a Deus Ex, or something greater in scope when it comes to exploration like a Gothic I & II (but in first person) or a Morrowind would be very interesting to see.
HoMM5 and HoMM3 both hold up as really fun strategy games to this day as well. HoMM5 is linked to this game, with many characters/monsters crossing over
Unfortunately haven't played any of the other Might and Magic games besides VII, nor those strategy ones. Didn't mention it but I know Sareth's mother is from HoMM5, and that's about it.
Man, seeing that cool special edition box copy of Dark Messiah? Really makes me miss the days of actual physical pc copies. Used to be able to buy used copies and resell them too. I think there was a Xbox 360 port too, but it wasn't made backwards compatible on current Xboxes. Same for the 360 port of the original Call of Juarez.
My immediate thought after starting this video was "Is this game running on the Source engine?" and sure enough, it is- my tipoff was the dialogue boxes. Never thought I'd see a HoMM game built off Source!
@@KingLich451 I would totally love a remaster of Might & Magic 1-5 done in the same way as the new Wizardry remaster. Be a great chance to introduce the actual series to the under 35s.
Whoa, what a blast from the past. I've bought this game in early 2008 and got hooked up fast. But I'm not that kind of person who plays games multiple times, though. So I've only seen the two different endings from one savefile I've made before the final "decision". But that got me at least interested in the M&M franchise, but never achieved playing on of the other RPG games (but though, HoMM2 was one game I've played many times with its map maker) Question: I suppose you've also played Thief: Dark Project? Considering the active community with TheDarkMod still maintaining a full conversion of the game, I'm interested, if you're following them and still play it?
This game did something right to urge multiple playthroughs, but I actually haven't played any of the Thief games at all. I really should because I do love stealth games.
the mainline might and magic games are the best dungeon crawler rpgs imo. this game rules probably the best m&m spinoff game not including the heroes series.
Nice seeing this game getting some attention. The last two chapters of the game are the weakest parts, at least that's when i start to lose interest. Really like most of the rest, with some interesting locations to fight and climb through, lot's of secrets and different ways to get rid of enemies, and most of it still holds up very well today, including the game play. The most fun i had in first-person melee combat.
A true gem. One of the best games out there. Back in the day i was completely obsessed by it.
Me too. Played it several times back then. Game definitely did something rightto urge multiple playthroughs. 💀
Press "boot" and win, the game.
Anyone who has played this game knows this is 💯 accurate.

Too bad. Dishonoured is a good game but I'd love a continuation of Dark Messiah with evolved gameplay like the openness of a Deus Ex or something.
One of few games where physics - part of gameplay, not just a visual feature.
Way ahead of it's time in both graphics and gameplay.

10/10, would kick things off cliffs again !

Was worried actually if the game wouldn't run on modern computers anymore, but glad to see there's a patch for it. Will check it out one day.

Big box PC games were very eye catching. Loved the feelies and similar extras that were bundled in with them.

It's not a HoMM game, HoMM is a spinoff of the mainline M&M series too, just like Dark Messiah is.
@@captbloodbeard it is funny, at this point Heroes is the main and pretty much the only one people know :( rip good old M&M

One of the best examples of games done in the Source engine, honestly.
Still one of the best games I ever played.
One of the funnest and most inventive games I’ve ever played. I’d love if this game got a spiritual successor.
Me too.
this game was way ahead if it's times
I’d honestly argue that it still is.
Might and Magic X uses this game's assets.
This is a game where instead of fighting you trick enemies into suicide situations

It really is the best first person melee combat out of any game I played so far.
I enjoi
This has far better graphics than Oblivion, of a similar age!
Xana best girl!
Sorry but Joseju win this one
Didn't know I was in a competition, but idk who that is.
loved MM7 and Dark Messiah and mmmmmm Gothic II
