And the miners and their families who were left with nothing. My dad is Yorkshire born and bred - Hull in case you’re wondering where exactly - and the things he has told me seems evil. Having a common enemy momentarily deflects from the deep, unresolved issues in these mining villages that are Mrs T's legacy, along with the rich elite. It wasn't the mines they wished to close, it was the working class they wished to destroy, so they could steal the nation's crown jewels, namely all the nationalised industries and social housing, whilst increasing the power and influence of the rich in future economic and employment debates and policies. At that point, we lost our heart and conscience, and were soon owned by corporate companies, shareholders, many of them international, who have no care for how we live, or do not live here in the UK. Their only care, is their profits!

@Bessie Hillum She quashed the miners to crush Unionism and the working class, so she could steal the nation's silverware and crown jewels alike, namely to hand over on silver platters,to stock markets and corporate companies, the nationalised industries and social housing that had been built up on the premise of sharing and community is good, and these were paid for by the taxes of the workers, whilst the rich shoved their monies on off-shore accounts, so they didn't have to contribute to our society on one hand, but ensured that they could afford the most expensive forms of education that guaranteed the perpetuation and retention of power and wealth for themselves. Quite an irony for the astute observer. It's called MURDER AND THEFT, CRIMINAL TO ITS CORE!!! The pits were perfectly viable, and this woman was no ecological warrior, she had no conscience!!!

Both my grandparents were coal miners and they were for generations.
These days we have all just gone to university. My mother was the first to ever graduate in my family.
Unfortunately, coal mines are feasible anymore and they haven't been for a long a time.
People don't go to the mine anymore, they get degrees.
We have technology to do the mining for us.
The mines would have shut sooner or later without thatchers help.
    Times have changed.

thats nice for future generations but what do you do for people that worked in mines at the time? What happens to them, what happens to the ancillary businesses that are supported through their wages being spent locally? You could shut it down and go cold turkey as Thatcher and the neoliberals did because your free market fantasies insist something else will come along, or you could try to deal with reality and acknowledge adults miners aren't going to transition from coal mines to university and other jobs wont come along and so try to find some way move some other industry to the other area.

    Bus deregulation
    Failing expensive privatised utilities
Lack of investment in the North
Deregulation of banking sector that led to crash of 2008
Reduction of wealthfare state msking it harder for people to get out of poverty
Decline of joint cabinet responsibility leading to power in the hands of a few
    Creating the selfish society
However we should have know what was comming as a minister she is most informace as Maggie the milk snatcher.

we still have time to nationalise industry and regenerate our country's education, health service and industry I really don't know if starmer is capable of it though. Without responsible nationalisation, investment and government oversight then I fear we will become more similar to a country like Hungary or Poland and fall further and further behind the likes of Germany and France.

    • @old.not.too.grumpy.
      @old.not.too.grumpy. Год назад

@coolio2000 unfortunately while it would be to our advantage to renationalise, the costs would be prohibitive. In the global world we now live in, governments have to take into consideration how any policy changes effect their ability to raise funds. We all saw the disastrous Truss's policies had on the economy.
The amount a government would have to borrow to nationalise any utility would have a simular effect

If Margaret Thatcher had not shut the mining industry someone else would have and therefore the people here in this clip would have celebrated when that person’s death occurred. Shutting an industry down, no matter how good the reason, will always make the individual or individuals unpopular with the communities and people affected by the closure.
