  • The contractor constructing the Nakaloke-Sironko road in Northern Division in Mbale city has abandoned the project over an unspecified outstanding debt.
The MS Kiru General Services Limited, a Kampala based construction firm was awarded the contract to build the 1.5-kilometre road by the city council at a cost of over Shs 1.9 billion.
The road is a stretch of over two kilometers, from Nakaloke trading center to Sironko road at a place commonly known as E’wa Nsereko. The project which was commissioned in June this year was expected to be complete by mid next year.
The construction company however suspended the works on the road over two months ago, after leveling and grading. At the site, the trucks that were being used in the construction remain abandoned and have started wearing out.
