  • Beyond the Curve - Celebrating 30 Years of Nautilus
Nothing looks or sounds quite like Nautilus. A revolution when it first launched 30 years ago and still an icon today, its ethos informs everything we do: create the best-sounding loudspeaker.
To honour the 30th anniversary of this iconic loudspeaker and everything it represents, we met with key contributors to the Nautilus legacy to delve into the rich history behind its pivotal design.
Additionally, to spotlight the latest Nautilus milestone, we follow the process of creating our 30th Anniversary Edition pair and speak to the craftsmen involved about just how special it feels to work on such a celebrated loudspeaker.
    Special thanks to:
Tom O’Brien - Chief Engineer | Active Speakers & Headphones
Simon Matthews - Industrial Design Director
Andy Kerr - Director of Product Marketing & Communications
Laurence Dickie - Nautilus Lead Engineer
    Jerry Gray - Chief Engineer
Rob Algeo & Alfie Hammond - Nautilus Builders

I remember when they arrived. I was in my teens and super interested in Hi-Fi, and they looked magical. I could never afford them of course, and haven't even seen them in real life.

I have a pair of these, and I absolutely love them. Of course, I had to sell my house and children in order to afford them, and there’s was no money left to buy amps or speaker cables, but they look wonderful in my cardboard box home by the river.

My first speakers where B&W, since then I upgraded every few years and still very loyal to the brand. I saw the nautilus from introduction in magazines and was fascinated from the first moment. Many years later at a B&W show at a respected dealer I attended a show where the new 800D3 where demonstrated….alongside the nautilus, all equipment was Classe with 8! monoblocks etc. I have to admit that I was a bit underwhelmed hearing them after the 802D3 demo (on 2 monoblocks). But there is something about the nautilus and its just wonderfull ❤.

Lovely. Perhaps B&W should have named this 30th anniversary model the Maximus Nautilus?

Every time I see these speakers, I do a Wayne's World and say They will be mine...Oh yes they will be mine. They'd beat the crap out of my B&W DM 603's (series 1) I'd love to go B&W and demo them, but they'd have to play some Metal, especially some Motörhead and some Pantera.

It's a wonderful story, I've wanted a pair of these since I first read about them in my youth. Still hoping to at least hear a pair! Bravo Bowers & Wilkins for birthing the legend, and keeping it alive!

"A labour of love" yep, as soon as you stray from the classic speaker box shape it's an absolute nightmare to build! 😅

About 15 years ago I was fortunate enough to visit the factory and demo centre in Worthing. Seeing and hearing these iconic speakers was a dream come true. They where £55k a pair plus you would need a further £20k worth of classA amps to power them correctly.
Most people talk about buying a house or fancy car when they win the lottery. Those people lack vision. I would have a pair of these beautiful speakers. And a pair of Diamond 802’s (as used in Abbey Road, and technically possibly the best speaker ever made)
That visit was one of the best days of my life.

The Nautilus and Silver Signature were the two most legendary speakers B&W had ever created. Sadly the Silver Signature is no longer available. How about a new Silver Signature with Diamond and Continuum?

Just making it expensive and defining it like a poem makes it expensive

I wish it was a new product. Increasing the size of the woofer stabilizes the sound and makes it more attractive. 新製品だったら良かった。ウーファーを大型化すれば音が安定し、より魅力的になる。
