    I’m a 9w1 myself, but I’ve often noticed that in 1s that they have two split sides. They can go to 7 and be almost childlike and silly, but then can go to this 4 place where they can be more serious and moody.

    Thanks for posting. I’m a 1 and it’s kind of frustrating when other videos have put such a high standard for a 1. Other videos I see are comparing 1’s to politicians and activists, but really 1’s don’t have to always “change the world”. Sometimes they just want to make a difference in the world around them. Even though I’m not always proud of them, the characteristics you describe suit me better.

      Damn right, or people tend to generalize that Type 1 must be this (orderly, bla bla) or that, when maybe us type 1 have different types of ideals which we ALWAYS want to follow

      Good way of saying it - changing the world around you. I don't care to affect large spheres of public life. I believe that a lot of the most powerful influencers are people who do it one person or one small group at a time. Influence the person (on a deeper level) who will influence many. That is a great sense of accomplishment. To help people fulfill their potential.

    Everything was on point! But I struggle so much with staying focused. I’ll do work for 15 minutes, think about something, look it up on another tab on the net to satiate curiosity, and then I keep doing thing and then it’s hard to get my work done.

    Almost every word was true. When you said, "People SHOULD stop at stop signs." I'm like, "YES, finally someone understands!!" And then I remember you don't necessarily actually think that...
    Truity repeatedly says I'm a 3w2, but this resonated with me more than either 2 or 3, I feel like. Including going to 7 when I'm happy.
    My dad was in the military before I was born, so that probably contributed.

    I think I was inevitably raised as a 1 and after becoming one, realising the futility of wanting everything to be right, understanding that the world is inherently unfair (or just the way it is), and that other people will just never be what you want them to be-after all that, I kind of pursue the path of an 8- just try to be independent and secure, having few friends in my inner circle, whom I trust and others are just not reliable enough.

    I am definitely a 1 with a balance between 9 and 2... I don't have a problem admitting my mistakes, I have made many mistakes and will continue to make them... I would say the worst thing is letting someone important to me down... Or maybe put another way... Knowing I am not living up to that person's expectation of me...

    To Dr. Tom LaHue. Sir. I've watched lots of your videos over the years, and I am grateful for your work. In some of my previous comments, I believed that I was a 6. I thought this for over a year. I once thought that I was an INTJ 5w6. Then an INFJ person (repeatedly) proved that I am an ISTJ. The insecurity and existential issue this caused, led me to believe that I was a 6w5. But as I've gotten more centered and dare I say, humble in my approach, last Friday, the reality finally sank in. I am a 1w9, Sp/So. It all made sense. My worst foe is indeed my inner critic. As an Autistic person, growing up in a time where neither myself, nor people around me knew what that was; My Sensing and Feeling functions grew slowly, but my Intuitive and Thinking functions skyrocketed. I've thought for a long time that I was of the Nt Temperament, but it was just the oddity of my Autism making that seem so. I am concrete first, and abstract second, but surely just as capable in that capacity. I guess it seems each one of us is truly unique in the totality of who we are. 🙂

    When I first took my enneagram test the very first and only time, I got that I am a 1. But recently I started to question it because although I have lots of attributes of a 1, I find that I’m not as rigid as other 1s and I live more on the creative side of life. I just took the test 3 times and every time I got a 4.. so I’m questioning my identity 😂 is it possible that I’m just a super healthy 4 that integrated into a 1?

    It's so sad how it seems that most 1s become that way out of trauma. I also was abused in my childhood, however by both parents. They were very emotionally immature and I kind of took it upon myself to be the responsible one. To be very moralistic while my parents showed morally devious behavior (cheating, drinking, car accidents, rage episodes that tore the house apart) etc,. I thought I was a 9, 5 and 4 for a while. Considered 6 as well but it didn't quite fit. (I might even have left comments in this channel claiming to be another type- please ignore them. I would delete them if I could but I can't fint them... which is very 1-like, now that I think about it....)
    Self-preservation 1 is the actual fit. I fear being wrong so much and getting attacked that I get stuck in analysis paralysis and prefer to do right by others instead. I want to do the right, moral thing because nobody else would. I want to be kind and fair to others because nobody was to me as a child. I get surreptitiously angry when I am confronted by dehumanizing points of views or statements. Regressive ideologies and unfair treatment of others. People think I look down on them. More often than not I don't really... I look down the most on myself. I know all of my failures and mistakes within an inch of my body and soul. When another person points them out it's just another incessant reminder of what I am keenly aware of 24/7. Even when I sleep or drift into slumber, my wrongness follows me.

    • @CuriouslyCute
      @CuriouslyCute Год назад

      Hope you get to end the bad cycle.
      I'm getting to help end a cycle of abuse in my family. My great grandpa was a drunkard. His wife stayed with him for the kids, is my understanding. When he was drunk, she didn't let him into bed, but then he'd go to the kid's bed, and my grandfather couldn't fit on the bed anymore, so he slept under the house.
      My grandfather was emotionally abusive, let his kids hurt each other, and worked them harder than my dad, a very hardworking person, thinks he should have. But he avoided getting drunk like his dad, because God told him not to. And he wasn't physically abusive. He seems to have been mentally ill, burning many bridges. My grandma divorced him, but they remained friends till they died, acting like they were married but without living together. They loved playing card games together.
      My Dad was less verbally aggressive than his dad, worked us hard but not as hard as his father, etc. He told me and my siblings that he wants us all to do better than him and my Mom did. He says if we all improve from the last generation, then eventually a future generation will be perfect.
      Fortunately, lots of research has been done on parenting. I have been passionate about being "the best mom ever" since I was young. I believe it is my destiny. (To be a great mother.) I have now nannied, worked with kids with autism through ABA therapy, work at nursery on Sunday's at Church, taken two college parenting classes, and read a dozen parenting books.
      My top favorite parenting book is called Discipline Without Distress, by Judy Arnall. She raised 5 children, who are all respectful, friendly, happy, responsible, independent, and smart. She is a Certified Family Life Educator. And what her book does is basically summarize research combined with the trenches, for how to have a joyful time with your kids most of the time, while raising them well. When I read about trauma-informed discipline, it rewords what she said.
      I also believe that if everyone read Everyday Parenting Toolkit, by Alan Kazdin, PhD, who was the Director of Yale's Parenting Center and Child Clinic, where juvenile delinquents were often court-ordered to go for parent coaching, as well as helping normal 5 year olds-- if EVERYONE read it, abuse would no longer exist in parenting. At least not from good people who simply believe the end justifies the means. It teaches the height of positive behavior change. It even works with kids with ODD. it works with LOVE!
      Some of it is behavioralistic enough that I'm still pondering whether and how to use it. (That is, the optional rewards for habit-building activities.) But it certainly is a good thing. I use it on children and adults all the time. I've even used it on myself, with great success!!

    I do not know I am a type 1 or not. Though I probably am. I don't always follow any rule. But I have an activist approach as to find the easiest way to do what is right. When I was younger. I didn't know how. But through prayer to God and the consistent investment and reinvestment in my mind, I can safely say this how I pray to God to be.
    In my youth, I was an ENTJ. Now I am an ISTJ.
    I want make it clear because my inner critic is going full-blast. Allow me to rephrase. I want to create an incentive for my backwards human imperfect sinful nature to always be attracted to rejecting itself. Not perfectly. But as well as I can.

    Dear Dr. LaHue! Hi! as a 5, it strikes me how similar are 1s to 5s in some respects. we are both somehow hard on people, strict about , for example, correct spelling. I even think that in what is written or spoken about 5s in the enneagram tradition, the obsessive quality in 5s is overlooked, except as obsession with investigation. As you might agree, the word "obsession" almost never comes up when talking about 5s, though as I 5 myself I experience it internally. / An exception is Claudio Naranjo in "Character and Neurosis" page 43. There he points to "a confusion between our perfectionist and the schizoid, which have some common characteristics and yet contrast sharply in other respects"./ Thank you for your attention and sorry, English is not my mother language.
    The tendency to think in terms of black and white, I very much experience it as a 5.

    I can’t tell if I’m a 1 or an 8, but I don’t think I’m that critical of myself. I do feel superior in school which I know is not a good thing but I get frustrated with others incompetence and take over if they can’t get the job done. I don’t see how it’s that difficult to get this certain task done and I will end up taking a lot of responsibility because I know I can do the job better than everyone else. I’m not that angry so that’s why I’m leaning towards 1 otherwise I’d think I was an 8. When I did the test I got a 8w7, can anyone tell me what they think I’m more of 1 or 8? I’ve heard the difference out of the two is 1 wants equality and 8 will play favorites. I would probably be 1 if that’s the defining thing. Also I’ve seen so many things saying 8’s are corrupt, sociopathic, etc which I don’t see in myself I’m definitely more empathetic and fair.

    • @hailey3944
      @hailey3944 2 года назад +2

      Not all 8s are corrupt. That’s for sure. There’s a lot of kind hearted and good Eights in the world, but there’s definitely some unhealthy Eights to who exhibit those traits. I don’t know if I have enough to go on to really help you figure out your type. I’m sorry. However, I do believe the most defining trait / and the best way to really figure out your type is core fears. Do you fear being bad, corrupt, inappropriate, evil, imperfect, wrong, or condemned? Then you are most definitely a One. Or, do you free loosing control of yourself, being taken advantage of, having no free will and being at the mercy of someone you do not trust? If this fear rings more true for you, then I’d say your an Eight.

      If Ones are in a healthy state, I think they’d deal with criticism much better. However, I think it would still bother them a little bit. Maybe it would keep them up at night, but it would certainly nag at them a little bit. As for their sexuality, I feel like if a type 1 were to be attracted to people of the same sex it would be hard for them.
