James, that was a great interview, as only u can do, straight from the hip,and proud to have known you , a very kind man also, who helped a lot of People,
Yep James is the real deal , what you see is what you get . An amazing Poet and Story teller . Heard a whisper some where that he is going to learn to play the Saxophone , no doubt he will master that as he has done with his love of Poetry . 🎷
I am really enjoying these interviews a lot of what he said I heard from my mum and dad. Dad was from Woodquay and mum was from The Claddagh and eventually lived in Henry street. My dads parents ended up in Mervue when it was first constructed.
My Granny, Hannah Burke Dooley lived in St Joseph's Avenue and the Ó Toole's ran a great shop, with the old fashioned three sided counters. I loved running in there as a child, after lunch, buying sweeties and scuttling up Raleigh Row with my sister Verran to run back up to Taylors Hill. The West is the best. Well done Toolers!
Marvellous stuff. I wish I knew what became of Simon's shop in Dominick St.- I used to buy comics there in the late 70s. Perhaps James could let me know or someone reading this. Thanks! NB. "Simon" shouldn't be confused with the charity.
