If the Blazers are smart they'd be tanking this year and getting as many draft picks for the future and try to get a Flagg or Ace to build around alone with Sharpe and Clingan because I doubt Scoot will be the guy they expect him to

In the Game yesterday he pretty much showed all his strenghts and his struggles.
His Court Vision is very Food and he has a very good feeling of how to Navigate through the Opposite Defense and search for the Right Play. He has often shown he can be a good playmaker. The thing he Lacks is Shot creation. His 6 points were him getting the Ball After a cut and then finishes with the Layup. He has to gain more conficende attacking by himself, he had 0 Ft attempts which Shows he still doesnt attack enough.
He tries to make the right Play everytime and thats a good thing, he just needs a Bit more confidence in himself and aggressivness but im sure he will be Fine 😌

I've never seen a team hand over the reigns so much to a rookie as they did Scoot last year. he was so bad in so many games. i remember one where he literally took 30 shots and missed most of them. one of the craziest stat lines i've seen. i get they were in a rebuilding phase but damn, i'd be so pissed if i were another player on the team just watching this rookie chuck away games. looks like they're not letting him do that this year tho. not yet at least.

Like most rookie point guards he improved over the season. Trae Young looked like shit the first month or so he started as well. Scoot's assists skyrocketed the last month or so of the season up to around 10 per game. This was without Simons, Sharpe and Grant playing at all, which is amazing because other than Ayton I don't think Portland had another decent scorer on the roster at that point.

Last year, Scoot had some good stats towards the end of the year. As a Blazer fan, I thought that these were heavily inflated by garbage time / meaningless games. I think he’s been quite a bit better this year than last year even though the numbers don’t show it. He still has a lot of warts and his game is messy. I think it is a bit early to panic too much though.

  • @henrythomas9174

Great video! Definitely can't say I envision him being anything close to the multi-year all nba replacement for Lillard that so many of us expected at this point, but I have been very pleased with his development so far this year. Everything looks better to the eye test and the advanced numbers seem to back that up. I like that you pointed out the discrepancy between his shooting numbers on pull ups vs off the catch and shoot. It seems mainly like he's having trouble getting his feet squared when he pulls up, compared to how effortless and accurate the shot looks when he shoots off the catch.
I don't mind a lot of his turnovers because he's cut down on the offensive fouls and driving into defenders and getting stripped and instead is trying out creative passes and lobs.
The game will open up for him so much once defenders respect his shot a little bit more, because he's proved almost nightly that very few other players can keep up with him on the court once he gets moving.

I mean Miller is struggling this year so far.. And saying “Scoot doesn’t have NBA speed” is wild. He may be only second to Deaaron Fox in speed..
He’s definitely not a proven bust, he’s 20 years old learning the PG position. Who’s the last 20 year old PG we saw find tremendous success in the league? Magic Johnson and Luka are the only 2 I can think of.

Of those four cherry picked players Scoot Henderson has the lowest points per game, field goal percentage by a lot, 3-point percentage by a lot, lowest effective field-goal percentage by a really large amount and his box plus minus is nearly twice as bad as anybody else. You can manipulate stats to make it look like the guy's doing better than he's really doing. Also it seems as if turnovers isn't on this list and I would be very curious to see that because I'm going to guess that scoot is way ahead of them on that as well. I don't know their early numbers but scoot has gone from 3.4 last season 2 3.3 this season which is not really a step up at all. One other thing is this chart of the four players leaves out how many minutes per game they're playing. I'm going to guess that Scoot has probably played more minutes per game than the other three during their early careers though I don't know that as a fact. Scoot has been a pretty crappy NBA player and it's not because he hasn't had the reps because they've basically turned the team over to him in Portland. It's not too late to turn it around but I think this video does not give the true picture of how bad Scoot has been.😢

Someone that you can add in a lot of lineups and he will produce on both ends on the floor in any way shape or form. That being said, this '25 draft class has PGs that Portland may be more interested in jumping on and I'm growing increasingly worried that Scoot won't show enough growth and Blazers trade him for a second pick, or a higher one this year.

Watched the full last three games. He showed some flashes as a passer and finisher but that is about it. He makes a ton of mistakes and cant really shoot from anywhere efficiently. Banton has been much better. Sharpe is going to be an allstar, he got it, just needs to be consistent. Rob III has been their most impactful player and could net them a good pick package from a contender. Clingan has some ups and downs but I feel good about him as the long term starter. Ayton and Simons are the odd men out imo. Camara has been very impressive and looks like the best 3 and d guy on the team. Longterm keepers are Sharpe, Clingan and Camara. The jury is still out on Scoot. Overall feels like a step in the right direction. With more internal improvements, this young core could make the playoffs by 2026.

Many guys like that get to the NBA and they can't handle the work guys as talented as them put in. So instead they get lazy, they believe their talent makes them special and that's why they will be successful. Scoot isn't taking the NBA seriously, and as a short guard, he is just not in a position to screw around for long. He will probably be out of the league in 5-6 years, unless he completely changes his attitude. Arriving to media day so high you can only talk about food is a really big red flag. on so many of his turnovers he is just too strong for his own good it looks like he puts in no effort on these passes and yet they rifle either out of bounds or off the hands

problem for scoot at this point, that before the draft his ceiling was franchise player and now his ceiling is borderline all star. By this measure alone, and in the blazers, he is more a trade asset that the Blazers future.

You can’t place a ceiling on a 20 year old point guard lol..

he isn't a trade asset because teams would likely only offer less than what he's worth because he's disappointed compared to expectations. No one is going to want to give up real value for a guy like that, but but they'll send an underpay as an offer hoping to pick him up for cheap in the hope they can develop him.

@markcowser2403 and? You could say the same thing about many NBA busts. What did he do in the first couple years in the NBA? Or how many years before his first all star game?
