Life is better with music
Queens of the Stone Age!
Awesome topic. Many post 2000s bands have become my current obsession. As a fan of the classic rock/metal bands I was against “modern music” in all it forms just based on principle. To my shame I never actually investigated much of it. Then a couple years ago Pete did a series on “Must Hear Bands of the 21st century”. Since I trust Pete’s opinions I started checking out those 30 odd bands one by one and the flood gates just opened. Now I’ve probably got 50-60 current bands I adore. Can’t thank you enough Pete for helping me see the light!
I shake my head every time I hear an old-timer in my age range say, "there's no good music anymore". I don't have enough money to buy all the music I want to acquire.
@@RickNBacker I was that old-timer in spirit. I'm only 34 lol.
Awesome topic! I'd like to see SoT cover more post-2000 artists. I'd love to do a Favorite Albums That Are 20 Years Old.
Stay tuned for June!
@@seaoftranquilityprogThanks Pete. Will do!
This solely on the heals of GEORGE & Pete’s great ranking /. Animals as LEADERS/ unbelievable music. IMO. Thanks for great show Pete/. Jamie 👍💯
@@seaoftranquilityprog right on!!!
Some really good albums in the 2000's for sure (both by older artists & newer ones). Some of my fave 2000(+) artists with (multiple) excellent albums - Prog:
A.C.T.
Abel Ganz
Advent Horizon
Agents Of Mercy
Airbag
Aisles
Also Eden
Amplifier
Anathema
Anders Buaas
Anderson Ponty
Antidepressive Delivery
Anubis
Apple Pie
Arabs In Aspic

My 10 bands in no particular order, except #1
1. Haken
2. King Buffalo
3. The Vintage Caravan
4. Witchcraft
5. The Sword
6. Elder
7. Blood Ceremony
8. Communic
9. Kadavar
10. Wo Fat
HM: Graveyard, Green Lung, Lords of Black, Hallas, Horisont, Magic Pie, Mastodon, Brutus, Mangrove, Blues Pills, Wucan, Rival Sons, Spell, Earthless, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Wobbler…and so many more.
damn. forgot wo fat.
@@independenceltd. there’s something so hypnotic about them for me. What they achieve sonically is unmatched for me in terms of the fuzz.
Very cool list. I missed a lot of these bands on my list. I didn't rank my list either, but Haken would definitely be my #1. I've loved them ever since I heard Aquarius back in 2010, and they're my favorite band of the 21st century.
Oh man, we are on the same page with so many bands. And was just blasting Psychedelonaut in the car yesterday.
Great episode..definitely Rival Sons, Mastadon, Ghost, Haken, Pallbearer. Crobot is really good too for that classic feel
Thanks much guys! I dis this century... but loved to get proven wrong. White Stripes(1999), Black Keys (although not newer stuff so much), Earthless, Elder, Stephen Malkmus (almost as much as Pavement). Other bands that you mentioned like Opeth, The Sword, Mastodon, Wobbler. Early Moods' most recent slightly less but the s/t before that really dig. Hell yeah totally agree with Pete about Earthless!
Here's my list:
Rival Sons
Avenged Sevenfold
The Darkness
Airbourne
Gojira
High Spirits
The Strokes
The Struts
Mastadon
Ghost
Rookie
Riot City
Holy Grail
Dragonforce
Kingfish
Power Trip
Spiritbox
Halestorm
Greta Van Fleet
Mammoth Wolfgang Van Halen
Grand Magus
The Sword
That's all I have off the top of my head.
Sabaton is opening for Judas Priest, and I'm as much excited to see Sabaton as I am for seeing Priest.
Some more of my other favorite 21st century bands:
Volbeat
Ghost
Halestorm
Powerwolf
Mastodon
The Pretty Reckless
Night Demon
The Darkness
Amaranthe
Slipknot and Stone Sour
Grand Magus
Lords of Black
White Wizzard
Gojira
Power Trip
Lucifer
Hour of 13
Witherfall
Lamb of God
Delain
Sons of Apollo
Firewind
My picks, no order:
- Rosalie Cunningham/Purson
- Blood Ceremony
- Khold
- Gojira (tried to not include bands mentioned in the video, but I can't leave them off my list)
- Wucan
- Hammers of Misfortune
- Gacharic Spin (not typical SoT-music, but my favourite band at the moment)
- Zeal & Ardor
- The Darkness
- Benedictum
Special mention to Mother's Cake. They have released a handful of albums, but I only really like one of them. They added a 4th member on their latest release (Cyberfunk!) and that did wonders for them. I would now call that one of my all time favourite albums, and I am eagerly awaiting their next release. Even if they quit now, I would at least consider Cyberfunk! a classic.
Oh man, good pick -- I nearly forgot about Rosalie (I wore her T-shirt at Austin Psych Fest last night) because I was focusing on bands. She'll hopefully have her third solo out this year.
@@Fastnbulbous1969 My guess is we will get the new album within 3 months, since the (first?) single was released this month.
Thoroughly enjoyed the programme guys.
In no particular order my 10 are - Volbeat, Midnight, Conan, Wo Fat, Dead Congregation, Audrey Horne, Sahg, Khemmis, Hooded Menace and Black Stone Cherry
Hi, great topic, great show and great choices... many that I know and love already, many I know and need to put time aside to give them a fair shake.
Off the top of my head, here are some I've come to think of as classic modern bands:
- Hammers of Misfortune
- Slough Feg (a bit of a cheat here, I think their 1st official release was 1999)
- Black Country Communion
- Avatarium
- Gygax
- Pharaoh
- Black Sites
- Cats In Space
- Ghost
- Green Lung
- Mastodon
- Trial
- Vulture
- Blood Ceremony
- Gatekeeper
- The Nightflight Orchestra
- Opera Diabolicus
- Wytch Hazel
- Crypt Sermon
- Black Mountain
- Khemmis
- Pallbearer
- Elder
I will have to finally give Lucifer a good try.
Shinedown
Seether
Halestorm
Three Days Grace
10 Years
Chevelle (first album is 1999 but I think they count)
Breaking Benjamin
Papa Roach
The Pretty Reckless
In This Moment
Basically, all bands nobody here will admit to liking lol.
Glad to see Chevelle and Shinedown here. Maybe it's just because I was born in the 90s and grew up in the 2000s, but I've always had a soft spot for them.
Good list of bands! I will admit that I like all those bands lol. Seen most of them live in concert.
I love Chevelle. They keep teasing a new album. Hope it's this year!
You like what you like, but in full honesty, I just don't like these bands. A song here and there? Sure, but in general, just not my thing.
I like most of those bands and would admit it to anyone
We came From Space - Pattern Seeking Animal's - Rival Sons - Dirty Honey - Cats in Space - Black Country Communion - The Struts - Magic Pie - The Vintage Caravan - Wobbler & I can't wait for the new B.B.C Album coming out soon. 5 of my 10 had new Album's that came out last year & 1 of the 5 Rival Sons had 2 last year.
Vintage Caravan and Magic Pie are really great. I saw VC with Opeth without knowing them before. So good live.
Top Ten : Myrath, Inglorious, Dynazty, Sorcerer, Riverside, Firewind, Grand Magus, Mastodon, Avenged sevenfold and keldian
Great show guys...my wife went to HS with Troy Sanders in Mastodon and remains friends with him over last 30 yrs. Very sweet, cool guy who does not act like a rock star. We got the VIP backstage treatment years ago when they opened for Primus in ATL.
Also have another friend who works occasionally with Mastodon/Troy...he's the bartender in a comical video the band will post soon for Tiki mugs modeled after the guys...funny stuff.
Great story. Love Troy and Mastodon!
1. Mantar (Formed 2013, First album 2014) Through hard work, determination and a relatively unique style (Extreme Metal, but also loads of AC/DC, Punk and so forth), two guys, 4 albums. First one is a modern classic and the other ones are getting better and better
2. Atlantean Kodex (Formed 2005, First album 2010) German Epic Heavy Metal / Doom. Akin to very early Manowar, Manilla Road, Candlemass, Dio era Sabbath, Virgin Steele and so much more but a style all of their own. 3 albums, three masterpieces.
3. Knife (Formed 2019, first album 2021) They are a cross between Black Metal, Thrash Metal and Heavy Metal - think early Metallica, Sodom, Bathory, Venom, Bewitched, mixed with Tygers of Pan Tang, Angel Witch and Jag Panzer. Two rough and rowdy albums. They're superstars in the german underground and the word is already getting around that this band is one to look out for.y
4. Cult of Luna (Formed in 1998, but first recordings did not surface until roundabout 2001) Post Metal overlords. Their Vertikal albums are amazing, I really need to dig deep into their discography).
5. + 6 Unto others (Formed in 2016 as Idle Hands, first album 2019) The Night Eternal (Formed in 2017, first album in 2021) These band are a cross between Iron Maiden and other classic metal bands mixed with Post Punk and Gothic Rock such as Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, Bauhaus. Unto others from the States has also a Type O Negative feel because the singer sounds like Pete Steele, whereas The Night Eternal really take musical and vocal stylings from the first two Maiden records.
7. Sulphur Aeon (Formed 2010, first album 2013)
This Death Metal band really breaks now and they more than deserve the praise. Their first album was great - the last three are downright masterpieces, sometimes bordering on Progressive Death Metal. Still, it is simultaneously highly melodious, brutal and atmospheric. This ain't your cookie cutter oldschool Death Metal - this is the future.
8. Thumos (US Post / Prog Doom) (2021, first album 2021) Instrumental music of the highest caliber.
9. Darkspace (formed in 99, but first release in 2002) Space Black Metal of the highest standard. Atmospheric, completely unique, almost industrial at times. This sounds like the first Alien movie and some elements in 2001 A Space Odyssey feel. Their releases are few and far between, but always interesting.
10. Revenge (formed in 2000, first release 2001)
These strange Canadians might get the title for one of the most brutal band. They might be even too much for some seasoned extreme metal fans. They are certainly unique despite being just the biggest Bestial Black Metal or War Metal band. Their patches and shirts can be seen all across the world at many concerts and festivals.
Props on the Darkspace mention. France's Spektr is another great band in that vein.
Mastodon, Gojira, Rivers of Nihil, High on Fire, maybe Ghost.
I am so stoked for the new BCC album!!
Not sure if I'm going to make it to the livestream since I'll be my graduation ceremony. Have a good show guys. I'll just comment my favorite 2000s bands soon.
Wow. Congratulations 🎊. I guess I’ll let you slide with that excuse. LOL. In all seriousness, great accomplishment. Enjoy 👍💯
Congratulations Takoda 👍🎊

Wolfies Just Fine (Folk Rock)
Sunami (Hardcore)
Turnstile (Hardcore)
Black Midi are bewilderingly good.
@@DrOz-007 Yeah man, I think them, Squid and Black Country, New Road are this generation's versions of the prog bands of the 70's. In the sense that, they are trying to move rock music forward and do some new things with the genre. Ridiculously talented bands.
Des Rocs is awesome, good call dude.
I saw Haken last week here in Perth…absolutely fantastic.
My 10 bands from 2000s are:
10: Avenged Sevenfold
9: Killswitch Engage
8: Breaking Benjamin
7: Evanescence
6: Audioslave
5: Three Days Grace
4: A Perfect Circle
3: Skillet
2: All That Remains
1: Shinedown
Great show. I now have quite a few bands to check out.
My list would include:
The Mars Volta
Mastodon
Gojira
Hella
Karnivool
The Drones
Muse (although only their first 4 albums)
Goldfrapp
Altar Of Plagues
Prop (although they only released 1 album, but what an album!)
Jamie is so damn entertaining...he geeks out...such a teenager/college fan-boy persona! Would LOVE to go to a concert with him. Pete is challenged to not lol at him every second! So fun to watch!
Since the release of Himlabacken II, Dec. 8, it’s been all Moon Safari for me. Best music I’ve heard in many years.
So great to finally hear both Murder By Death and Coheed and Cambria mentioned on this channel! MBD is a top 10 band in this house. One of the best live bands you will ever see.
Post 2000 bands i probably keep returning to the most and/or made a classic album are:
Mastodon
Elder
High on Fire
Earthless
Black Mountain
Lykantropi
King Buffalo
Wo Fat
Spidergawd
Graveyard
Horisont
Samsara Blues Experiment
Slift
Black Rainbows
Causa Sui
Asssemble Head in Sunburst Sound
Astra
Brant Bjork
Wobbler
And there's so much more great music out there.
I will check out Horrendous (quite like Tomb Mold) and maybe try again with Gojira and Riverside..
In two weeks i'll be attending the Sonic Whip festival and some of the bands you discussed wil be there: Kadavar, Witchcraft, Green Lung.
And also attending Brant Bjork, Delving , Dhidalah, Minami Deutsch, Full Earth, Kanaan, Domkraft, Monolord, Mantra Machine and Travo among others.
Great stuff.
Props for the Astra mention.
Awesome topic. Had an idea for nexr year's topic for viewers: Ranking our favorite albums in the firsr quarter of the 21sr century since it'll be 25 yrs worth.
I'd like to add a few bands that haven't been mentioned yet: Planet X, Frost*, Lonely Robot and my absolute favourite band from this period and also one of my favourite bands ever The Tangent.
For me my top 3 is Haken, Magic Pie & Wobbler. I love the fact that Wobbler sound like the result of putting Crimson, ELP, Genesis (Ant and Steve), Hackett, Gryphon, Van der Graaf Generator, Camel, Caravan, Yes (Banks and Howe) and a smidge of Gentle Giant into a sonic blender to create such amazing music.
Great show thank you so much guys!
Saw Arcade Fire on Austin City Limits in 2007 and started listening to them.I actually liked every album.I can't really say that about many bands that started up 22 years ago.
A very good overview... Glad to see Blood Ceremony and King Buffalo on the list. I would add The Mars Volta, Temple Fang and Colour Haze. And my favorite, The Warning. If you've never heard these girls you must, because they flat out rock. The closest thing to a female Rush that there is. Check them out!!!
The Night Flight Orchestra is a really good new band as well
Love those guys!
Yeah Jamie, Early Moods amd Saturna are great to check out!
Cool that Jamie talked about Murder By Death - !!!!
Favorites that formed after 1999, somewhat in order although #1 is definitely #1.
1. Zombi and associated projects (Steve Moore, Majeure, Lovelock, Miracle, etc.,,)
2. High on Fire
3. The Soft Moon
4. DANAVA
5. YOB
6. Drudkh
7. Mastodon
8. Keelhaul
9. The Ruins of Beverast
10. Midnight
Good way to put it guys, the excitement about new releases by newer, post-2000 bands is a good indicator of the "classic-ness" of these bands. Great giving some love to these newer bands!
Here’s my List
Greta Van Fleet
Dirty Honey
Rival Sons
Blackberry Smoke
Black Stone Cherry
Allman Betts Band
The Struts
Mammoth WVH
Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown
Alter Bridge
Marcus King
Goodbye June
Christone Kingfish Ingram
Now I want to meet Mrs Laszlo ❤
love this episode - so many bands I knew too little about. Fab
From the bands mentioned, Ghost, BCC, Cats in Space,Lucifer,Riverside,. Add Blackberry Smoke and The Tangent.
"Oh look honey, he's buying the CD [that] grandpa wants!" Jamie was great as usual!!! XD
If it weren't for Sea of Tranquility, I wouldn't have gotten into Rival Sons and Lucifer. Those bands completely changed my perspective on rock music post-2000s. I've seen Rival Sons once last year and I'm seeing them again in October because they're freaking good live! Jay Buchanan is one of the best rock vocalists in this day and age! I have all of Lucifer's studio albums and while I prefer 'Lucifer IV' over 'Lucifer V,' I still think the latter is really strong and with more listens, it'll grow on me even more.
This was a great topic/video.
Mastodon, Gojira, BTBAM and Yob, I feel have already cemented their legacies. And are all great picks.
Some bands I think should be added to the discussion:
Russian Circles
The Ocean/The Ocean Collective
Krallice
Agalloch (yes, Pale Folklore came out in 1999, but that's a quibble)
Panopticon
Baroness
Ulcerate
Alcest
Converge (from Jane Doe on because that's when their line-up was solidified)
Cult of Luna
Windhand
Nice shout out to Murder By Death, Jamie. I randomly bought 'In Bocca Al Lupo' their 2006 album when it came out and have been obsessed since.
I absolutely enjoyed the heck out of this show. Thanks guys! My addition would be All them Witches. Best modern rock band. And the drummer just quit. Boo….
Good picks Pete 👍 i agree with you, i favor male singers but everynow and then a band fronted by a female vocalist hits the spot .
I pretty much no nothing of new music post about 2006 so this should be interesting and useful. :)
Nice lists. My faves are Rivers of Nihil, Watain, Mastodon, Horrendous, Shining, Gojira, Crown Lands, White Ward, Jon Oliva's Pain and Chimaira
Great topic 👌
My favorite new band by far is Night Flight Orchestra, the best-sounding new band that sounds 80s. I always hear people mention Cats in Space but for me, Night Flight Orchestra is a band that does the 80s thing better. Favorite albums are: Amber Galactic, Aeromantic I/Aeromantic II
My top picks from Must Hear Bands of the 21st Century from August '22 pretty much apply to this. It's been longer than I thought, so I'm all for doing this again! Interesting that Graveyard played with Opeth in 2020, because I think I saw them open for Opeth in 2009! I saw Earthless last night at Austin Psych Fest!
Jamie bought all those records in the last 8 years?! I guess that's one reason to have a good job! I loved those pool shows at Psycho Vegas, saw Elder and Spirit Adrift in 2018 when floating around (there was a deeper part). Witchcraft were supposed to be at that fest but canceled last minute, but I did see 'em in 2007. Magnus totally lost his marbles on Black Metal (2020), hoping he'll come back from it. Rival Sons are further down my list but agree that they should be mainstream stars, at least bigger than Greta Van Fleet. I'd say the same for Iceland's The Vintage Caravan.
First time I saw Truckfighters, three different amps spontaneously combusted, but putting a dude out who's on fire in Torche tops that I guess! Gojira, Khemmis, Kadavar are bubbling under for me. Super tall, hairy German yeti is a good look for rock. I saw Ghost with Blood Ceremony when they were touring their first album. Lucifer rules, and I still don't understand why one would think there's a problem with their name when there's Satan and dozens of other variations.
I'd get behind a Sword reunion! That hot sauce has long been consumed, probably triggered my acid reflux. Murder by Death sent me a promo back in the early 00s -- I dug 'em along the lines of Gothic Country/Americana Noir (Sixteen Horsepower, Black Heart Procession) but kind of lost track of all those albums!
1. Graveyard
2. Elder
3. TV On The Radio
4. Ufomammut
5. Truckfighters
6. White Denim
7. Syd Arthur
8. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever
9. The Sonic Dawn
10. Witchcraft
11. Baroness
12. Torche
13. Dungen
Bubbling under: Blood Ceremony, Spirit Adrift, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats, Lucifer. Newer bands that might climb up the list with more albums: Monarch, Slift, Fooks Nihil, Bask, Crypt Trip, Kings of the Valley, Turtle Skull, Vitskär Süden, Shaman Elephant. Early Moods too!
Bands that started before 21st century but most of the best albums are after: Colour Haze, Motorpsycho, Queens of the Stone Age, Spoon, The Lord Weird Slough Feg.
If Rosalie Cunningham counted as a band I'd include her.
FYI- I'm pretty sure the person who reviewed the Elder concert was Roie Avin from Prog Report.
In no order: Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats, Ruby the Hatchet, Lucifer, Jess & the Ancient Ones, Purson (and Rosalie Cunningham solo), Jex Thoth, Graveyard, Black Road, Blood Ceremony, Blues Pills. Honorable mentions: Frayle, Spiral Skies, Earthless, Witchcraft, Devil Electric, Sanhedrin
Elder, Transatlantic, Earthless, The Sword, Wo Fat, Om...
and two bands I don't care for but still think they're classic: Mastodon and High on Fire...
Black Country Communion
King Buffalo
The Vintage Caravan
Alter Bridge
The Winery Dogs
Samantha Fish
Coheed and Cambria
Greta Van Fleet
Audioslave
A Perfect Circle
Rival Sons
Pretty Reckless
These are just of the top of my head. No real digging involved so there are probably others that could be added to the list.
Some of my favorites that I haven’t seen mentioned in the comments yet are Burning Witches, Low Cut Connie, and The Red Clay Strays.
I just discovered Burning Witches thanks to the KK's Priest tour just a couple months ago. I've since gone all-in on their albums. Laura might be my favorite female singer to come out in decades.
@@tuffs4it yeah she’s great. I originally came in on Hexenhammer and was reluctant to accept Laura instead of Seraina, but Laura has really won me over.
Oh man, far too many bands come to mind. So I created some rules to reduce the numbers:
1) Band must have more than 3 albums. In a few years those bands could join the list
An Abstract Illusion (Swedish Prog Death)
Iapetus
Power Trip
2) first album after 2000, so no Agalloch 😞
3) I need to have at least 3 years of history with the band. So no Hellripper or Disillusion
4) No side projects or super groups. So no
Flying Colors
Transatlantic
Bloodbath
But despite all, I only get down to a Top 20:
1. Baroness
2. Insomnium
3. Caligula's Horse
4.Khemmis
5. Riverside
6. Alcest
7. Magic Pie
8. The Ocean
9. Haken
10.Elder/Kadavar/Eldovar
11.Solstafir
12.Persefone
13.Gojira
14.Rivers of Nihil
15.Jake Rogers (Visigoth/Gallowbraid/Caladan Brood)
16.Wardruna
17.Winterfylleth
18.Saor
19.Blues Pills
20.Mastodon
And there are still some Honorables. So it is a complete enigma for me, how so many people state, that no good new music came out since 1990/2000 or whatever.
Been scrolling through all the comments and finally, someone included Transatlantic.
Ghost is about as heavy as I go any more, Rival Sons is much more my speed. Also like Dirty Honey, Monster Truck, some of the stuff from Halestorm and Pretty Wreckless is pretty good. Love how Deraps capture the Van Halen vibe. Also like the solo efforts from Corey Taylor.
Others that I am starting to listen to to are Tuk Smith and the Restless Hearts as well as Nik Perri and the Underground Thieves
From the hard rock/metal side of things...
Mastodon
Earthless
High On Fire
The Lord Weird Slough Feg
Boris
Sunn O)))
(Yes, some of these bands existed in the late 90s, but the vast majority is 21st Century).
Some other beloved "modern" artists of mine, not quite in the same musical realm -
Thee Oh Sees/Osees
Richard Dawson
The Hold Steady
Lightning Bolt
Reigning Sound
St Vincent
New Pornographers/Neko Case
Mclusky/Future of the Left
Chelsea Wolfe
Angel Olsen
TV on the Radio
The White Stripes/Jack White
Some bands that aren't linked to pre-2000 that I like alot are Reckless Love / The Darkness / H.E.A.T / Bullet / Station / Work of Art / Dream Evil / Creye / Crashdiet / One Desirre / Greta Van Fleet / Danko Jones / Band-Maid / Riot City / The Casanovas
gojira/mastodon/animals as leaders/the aristocrats/cult of luna/crippled black phoenix/rival sons/obscura/aghora/church of misery
Great topic.
Especially so I get some interesting recommendations, as I mostly fall back on the old classic bands (from whom luckily still a lot tour, and music clearly is a craft as often they can compensate the lack of youthful energy with skilled musicianship).
I wonder if Avenged Sevenfold does qualify ?
Their 1st concert was February 2000...
The honorable mentions Epica and Alter Bridge would be very high in my top 10.
I do miss King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard in both your lists or honorable mentions (if I listened well enough).
Maybe in your view part of the "too young yet" generation, but with 25 studio albums their portfolio now already is larger than most bands were ever able to produce.
Great topic. How about Big Business? Former members of KARP? Uncle Acid are my favorite. Baroness. I’ll go mainstream too and say Audioslave. Give me Cornell with any backup band and im rockin.
Interesting topic I have bands I would definitely recommend from the 2000s my top 10 are 1 staind 2 nickelback 3 breaking Benjamin 4 puddle of mudd 5 dream theater 6 three doors down 7 system of the down 8 three days grace 9 creed 10 alter bridge
Witchcraft.
Swallow the Sun.
Earthless.
OM.
La Scaltra.
ACTORS.
The Soft Moon.
The Joy Formidable.
Alien Boys.
Amyl and the Sniffers.
Avenged Sevenfold
Bullet For My Valentine
Volbeat
Three Days Grace
Linkin Park
Dead and Divine
Avantasia
Blaze Bayley
Breaking Benjamin
Sabaton
Also some single albums from 2000s like from All That Remains or Killswitch Engage. Of course those from 2006.
2000s is probably the best era of rock and metal music. Especially from 2004 to 2010. 2005 and 2006 alone have many of my favorite albums of all time.
Great show! My top picks:
Rival sons
Ghost
Kadavar
Blues pills
Lucifer

I love Rival Sons a great band their last 4 albums are classics. Jay Buchanan has a great voice and stage presence. Scott Holiday has his own unique sound. Alter Bridge another band I enjoy a lot. Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti both hugely talented. Black Country Communion Greta Van Fleet Dirty Honey Whiskey Myers Inglorious Super Vintage The Winery Dogs and the short lived Chickenfoot are other 21st century bands I enjoy. Sadly most people in my age group (60+) who love classic rock seem unwilling to listen to new bands.
Great topic! But I missed some trally awesome bands:
King gizzard and the wizard lizard: I think it's the more productive and diverse rock band of tge 2010s and it's awesome live
Zeal & Ardor: great black and avant garde metal from switzerland
Black midi: great fussion band, incorporate jazz and and sone prog
All them witches: psyc-stoner from Nashville
Naxatras: incredible psych-stoner and prog band from greece
Truckfighters: awesome stoner-prog band from sweeden
Here, how about this for an idea: a video that focuses on Progressive Rock Singles. I know for some people that may seem an incongruous coalition but often a band would release a 7" single and 1 or both tracks never appeared on an album and the tracks were really good. These discs come instantly to mind.
Ambrose Slade: Genesis / Roach Daddy
Cat Food / Groon
Jethro Tull: A Song For Jeffrey / One For John Gee
ELP: Fanfare For The Common Man / Brain Salad Surgery
Atomic Rooster: Tomorrow Night / Playing The Game
Egg: Seven Is A Jolly Good Time / You Are All Princes
Curved Air: It Happened Today / When You Blow Yourself Up
The Family: Scene Through The Eye Of A Lens / Gypsy Woman
The Family: 2nd Generation Woman / Hometown
The Family: Today / Song For Lots
The Family: Strange Band / The Weaver’s Answer
The Family: In My Own Time / Seasons
Pink Floyd: Point Me At The Sky / Careful With That Axe, Eugene
VDGG: People You Were Going To / Firebrand
VDGG: Theme One / W
MMEB: I Who Have Nothing / Mann In A Jam
Genesis: I Know What I Like / Twilight Alehouse
Gryphon: Glastonbury Carol / Crossing The Styles
Both Van Der Graaf singles are excellent and, of all the progressive groups, The Family were the one who openly embraced the 7" single as a format to promote their group. I suspect there are umpteen I've forgotten or not inclouded through ignorance but you can see where I'm at with this list. W, Twilight Alehouse, When You Blow Yourself Up...tracks that merit our attention (in my biased opinion) which are lost because they never appeared on an album.

That was 23, and there could be more.
And two bands that must be mentioned but debuted in the early nineties:
Motorpsycho
Colour Haze
I tend to prioritize the bands that have runs of 4+ consistently great albums, and Wolf People kind of messed that up with their hiatus, but if I could combine them with Large Plants then for sure! Same with Purson/Rosalie. Agreed on Motorpsycho and Colour Haze too.
That last Sammal is fantastic 👌

Rival sons mentioned 🗣️
My ears were playing tricks on me. When Jamie was saying Horrendous, i thought that he was saying that the band sucked. Took me a second to realize that was a band's name. Between The Buried And Me is as far as I'll go. I dig Greta Van Fleet, Ghost, Rival Sons, Flying Colors, Black Star Riders, and The Darkness. Yes, i know that i cheated slightly because Black Star Riders is a reformation of Thin Lizzy. I think that GVF is popular, because they're an easy sell. All you have to do is say that they sound like Led Zeppelin. Also, i think that the fact that were kids when they started out is unique. I thought that when Rival Sons moved to Atlantic, they would be selling big, but that hasn't happened. I just think that RS is a harder sell. They are Classic Rock sounding, but they have a more garagey and soulful sounds. I dig Uncle Acid even though i only have one cd by them. They sound like Sabbath, but with John Lennon singing. Speaking of young kids, does anyone know of a band called Crocked X? They were the subject of a VH1 special. They were discovered by veteran manager Doc McGhee. They were a quartet of 13-15 kids. They broke up after one album because their guitarist left. They haven't reunited because the guitarist later died. I believe that it was because of drugs. It's funny that Jamie mentioned BOC and Pop. I think that stuff like Cagey Creations and Harvester Of Eyes on Secret Treaties is poppy. Sounds like '60s music. Btw, Jamie is my spirit animal. If I'm not working, I spend time alone listening to music.
Very interesting topic!

I don't know how anybody can talk about this topic without mentioning Powerwolf. They tick all the boxes: epic, powerful, fun, old-school and most importantly they are killing it live! Easily my favorite metal band from this millennium.
Eh….they haven’t clicked with me.
@@seaoftranquilityprog It's ok, just kidding ofc. To each their own. But have you seen them live?
Nope.
@@seaoftranquilityprog They are playing in the Paramount in Brooklyn on 9/14. I can highly recommend to go see them live.
I haven’t really liked any of the albums I have heard, so I’m not driving all the way to Brooklyn to see them.
Only have one, The Sword
Nothing against Greta Van Fleet but Rival Sons blows them away. One of the best live shows I've seen in the last 20 years.
