      Hi - Sounds like EWS isn't working? Are the email address and SIP address the same?

    hi thanks for video
    How many servers are needed to set up Skype, and under what names?
    That is, how many Windows servers do we implement on the server?
    Thank you for your response

      There are a LOT of variables there. At a basic level you just need a domain controller with a certificate authority, and a SfB Front End Server.
      Add in remote access & federation then you'll need an access edge and a reverse proxy.
      Add in high availaility you'll need:
      An SQL Server for the databases
      3 x Front End Servers
      2 x Access Edge
      2 x Reverse Proxy
      Add in reporting....I'm sure you can see where this is going.
      There are some template example designs over on my blog at www.markc.me.uk.

    I am installing Skype for Business 2019 but the Server.Msi will not install. Has anyone experienced this situation and can shed some light?

    Hi, Edge Server can be installed on the same Standard Edition Server to share a single license? Tnks.

    • @MacRS4
      @MacRS4  4 года назад +1

      Hi - no. It needs a separate server. It doesn't however require a SfB Server License as it's considered additional software, and licensed under the front-end server license.

    Hey Mac. Thanks for the overview. We currently have SBA (survivable branch appliance) with Lync server 2013. How is it different from Session Border Controller ? I tried looking it up online but i didn't find it. Are they same devices with different names?

    • @MacRS4

      Hi, no, they're not the same thing.
      SBC = Session Border Controller. Think of it as a voice gateway or voice firewall. It may on one side accept SIP from Lync/Skype for example, and on the other side have ISDN, Analogue, or a SIP trunk to your PSTN provider.
      An SBA is a Lync role to provie high availability. While you can do direct SIP (I wouldn't, but that could be just me), it isn't an SBC.
      Now, what complicates it, and I'm guessing is the real source of your question :-) Is that you can often buy SBC that have a server module in, and that server module runs an instance of Lync SBA. So in effect you have one appliance that provides both the availability functions of the SBA *and* the voice capabilities of the SBC.
      Conceptually they're different items, however with those combined units I can understand why they're sometimes put together.
      Do you know what you use for an SBA? If it has voice interfaces in it it's probably an appliance SBC with a server module.

      @@MacRS4 Ohh. That was really helpful mac. Now I understood why Lync calls work at Branch offices even if the Site to Site VPN is down. As far as your question goes, it has voice interfaces too which is connected to the line coming from the service provider.
      How do you advise should we switch to Teams ? If it is appliance with server module and certified by Microsoft Teams, do you think we can use it with Teams without the need to buy additional SBC. Trying to get your views on this so that I am a little prepared before i plan and discuss this with the supplier who provided us the device.

    • @MacRS4
      @MacRS4  4 года назад

      If the SBC element is certified for teams it should work. The server component won't though.
      Do you know what it is ? Audiocodes or sonus/ribbon?

    • @whats-better
      @whats-better 4 года назад

      @@MacRS4 It is Nuera GX-1K. It is not Teams certified. So in that case do we need to replace it and buy a certified one, get it working with SFB and then Migrate to Teams ? As our PSTN lines are connected to existing SBA, we need to make sure that the downtime is minimized.
