Heir you should go for the adventure quest that gives thunderbarges flame cannons.
Heir, think the confusion around the battles was my fault. All I meant was that if you can confederate the dwarf lords to the south that will put you closer to the battles you need, because you will get territory in the south from the confederation.

I disagree about the slayer pirates, while they might not have the best stats, i find them very useful as a meatshield for my gunlines, and they soften up enemy chargers with a pistol volley, always entertaining :)

You'd think the Dark Elves would learn to not pick a fight against Dwarfs with airships. Maybe they need a few more lessons on why that is a bad idea.
Ah bummer about the artillery runes. I used explosion and homing on grudge throwers in a Thorek Ironbriw campaign and both worked great. Maybe the cannons move too fast to home in?
I did some research & found the real reason Heir doesn't like the Nurgle. Back when Total War Arena was still a thing, CA invited Heir to their British headquarters. While there, they did a full body scan promising to make him a warrior in a future Total War game. When they got the rights to Warhammer, they saw their opportunity to incorporate Heir's scan. They made him better looking & smell better and called them Nurgle. Heir is jealous the Nurgle are so attractive compared to him. That's the truth about why he hates Nurgle so much.
