I don't seem to comment as much these days. But thank you, John, for all the work you do on these cases. I am originally from Canada, but have resided in Japan for over seven years now. It seems that we've heard this story before. The victim goes to a house party or something, goes missing or is murdered, and suddenly nobody there knows what happened. It's horrible when people prioritize their own before the victim of a crime.
Thank you for covering this John. Halifax is (basically) my hometown (I'm from just across the harbour in Dartmouth) Unfortunately Devon's face has been on my FB feed for two years now and it makes my heart hurt that his family, obviously especially his mom, is still having to deal with this. I have a lot of friends in HPD and while I love them and appreciate what they do, the HPD in general doesn't exactly have the best solve rate for murders. Even when they "know" who did it (look up the murder of Jason McCullough. It's widely assumed who the murderer was yet HPD has done nothing). As always, you are wonderful and so appreciated for all that you do for these families. Take care of you
Thanks for this SEARCHLIGHT. You have done an excellent presentation. Perhaps people who have accurate information about Devon value their lives more than the large reward. I hope Ms. Gray will be strengthened as a result of you sharing her story. I can't imagine the suffering she is going through. Many thanks to all who support her during this seemingly endless torture as she awaits answers. Sharon 🇨🇦
I'm shocked that nobody has talked since the reward went up to $150,000 Canadian $$$. That's a h#ll of a lot of money. He must have been involved in something really nefarious if nobody is willing to talk...not saying it's his fault, of course. God bless his mom. Good moms always fight for their children. I hope she finds the answers she is seeking soon, poor lady.
My heart hurts for his mom and the rest of his family. I have two kids and one is Devons age. I can only imagine the anguish his mom is going through. There literally could be nothing worse.
Thank you for covering this case, i know devons dad, he shops where I work. His heart breaks everyday, it can be seen just looking at him. I hope people step up and speak about what they know, this is so heartbreaking and so many of us have a child this age.
Thank you for doing this video ❤ Spryfield is a part of Halifax. This poor mom needs and deserves answers 😢 Sadly all you have to do is google portapique Nova Scotia to understand that our law enforcement needs a complete overhaul 😟
This is so heart breaking. I don't know this family but I pray for them. Nova Scotia has a history of human trafficking between the maritime to Toronto. I pray he is safe & he makes it home. 🙏
Clearly the kid hung out with a crowd that wasn't known to the mother. And how many "excellent kids" (who are only 15yo) disappear for two or three days at a time without their parent's permission and then are evasive about where they've been? Kids talk - share secrets and rumors. No way his friends or siblings haven't heard something. Also, at only 5ft tall at 15 years of age, he's very small - even shorter than most girls. It makes him likely to be at the receiving end of abuse or exploitation by someone known to the locals.
A lot of VERY good kids actually - that's how bad actors groom and manipulate them! Poor lad was probably trying to act or be "harder" and treated "like a grown up" 😢
Thank You as always John, for covering sadly yet another case from my country of Canada 🇨🇦. I remember seeing Devon's disappearance on our national news, as I live mid country on the prairies. So terribly sad, especially when we have to remember one was a family member, an individual that should have had his back, at the very least, should share with his aunt what he knows. I want to Thank You for shouting out Jordan Bonaparte and The Night Time podcast was one of the first TC podcasts I listened to and still do, he does a great job and has done some amazing deep dives. I truly pray that Theresa and his family find the answers they are seeking. How heartbreaking. 💔
❤ John hello handsome man and thank you for your hard work. I never hard about this young man. I hope his Mom gets her son back safely home. Thank you Always Donna Barnes ❤
It seems like there are too many stipulations on that reward money for it to be at all effective. If the cousin is a petty criminal he absolutely wants to get ahold of $150k! But then I think I heard it was "up to" $150k so who knows what that means. If they can't remain anonymous, well, criminals and law abiding citizens alike people don't trust law enforcement. They are allowed to lie, and they do, ya know? I wonder how much could be raised privately to be given no bullshit, no-strings to attached to an anonymous tipster in exchange for verifiable information.
Isnt he small for his age? Im sure thats irrelevant but i expected him to be younger from his description, its too bad no one from the cousins family will help
When they talked about trafficking, I wondered if his size might play a factor? Like he's less likely to look suspicious to police, easier to physically intimidate or control, etc?
It sounds like he was working as a mule/dope boy for his cousin. He either got caught stealing product or money, or he wasn’t able to pay for product he was fronted to sell, and the cousin killed him for it. I can’t think of any other scenario that would involve everything described or alluded to. Stupid of the police to not have investigated his disappearance as suspicious earlier, considering he was a teeny tiny kid. That’s a child, not a grown adult.
There are plenty of other more realistic and logical scenarios besides being a drug mule or dealer for a petty criminal. If thats all you can think of, think harder
Obviously the Police can't just search a house without a search warrant. A Judge or someone in the court system has the authority to issue the warrant, not the Police. The Judge has to determine if a warrant is justified., so it is very possible the Police applied for a warrant long ago but did not get one.
Spryfeild is literally 5-10 minute drive from halifax city centre without traffic its very close kind of a suburb off the main city centre i guess...i lived there for 10 years only moving 20 mins away to the Bedford area...i lived in spryfeild at the time he went missing. I worked at the bowlarama ( bowling alley, bar, arcade)there wich many kids his age frequented he looks so familiar 😢 i truly hope he is found even if he has passed, he deserves to be home❤ Thank you john for covering cases from my home aswell - Sheena Alexis Sampson
The stipulations for the reward money are foolish in this case. Anybody who knows what happened is going to be too scared to risk talking even for big money.
I hope this doesn't come off as insensitive, but I was really surprised that he was labeled as being black. If I'm being honest, he doesn't look black to me at all. I think it would have been more beneficial to say he was mixed race because that is obviously what he is. Little details like this can greatly affect the case.
@@JoeConradd Actually just FYI, full black people come in that shade (and even white) and with blue, brown, green, hazel and grey eyes - whoever does the missing posters can't spend their time worrying about other people's ignorance 🤷🏾♀️ - if the kid is 'black', he's black
Canada only decriminalized marijuana fairly recently, around 2018. Though you still have to be of age to buy and use it, like with cigarettes and alcohol, so it would have been illegal for him as a teen.
What are you going to do with a 16 year old? Not trust them to carry out a drug deal. He was small and young. He could have been sex trafficked and the older cousin could reaped some nice cash.
He is definitely selling or being pulled in to trafficking because I spend 25 years in drug addiction and I've seen this same thing happen many times not murder but being pulled or tricked into selling and owing money and trafficking drugs not good and when ur a teen its really bad
Communication is very very important between parents and teens. They should not be allowed to go out without knowing exactly where they are. I know it's not easy when some of them think they are grown and can do whatever they want. However, there must be some common grounds in regards to communication.
My heart breaks for him and his Mum. There's a whole pile of scare tactics involved here. Kids not talking with a quarter of a million dollars reward. If you know something, say something.
So at 16 he was just allowed to come n go as he pleases from home? Even overnight for multiple days? That’s weird for 16. He didn’t have to tell mom where he was going/who he was with. I can’t imagine my parents being ok with me just taking off for multiple days without me telling them where I am. Especially at 16. The teen years, for boys, can be very hard - finding their way in modern society, trying to learn how to be "men" It's not possible to lock a 16 year old in the house (while working yourself) - and we don't know the details of how many times and how he came about to be away from home for those couple of days previously 🤷🏾♀️ Good, respectful kids can be groomed and led astray too
A 16 year old boy that's only 5 feet tall? That sounds like stats from when he was younger. It is possible, but 5'0" is extremely short for a 16 year old. I'm guessing he's much taller and they just took maybe the last official measurement from a doctor visit, and that could be 3 or 4 years old.

It’s more likely he was involved in nothing more nefarious than trusting his own cousin.
