Ok, let me tell you why that's bullshit (THIS IS LONG) 1. Gaara's sand is infused with both his own chakra and he also has the sand infused by his mother. Toph isn't bending regular sand so to assume she can just use and redirect it like normal and doesn't make sense. It's basically controlling someone else, so it would fall under the category of bloodbending which is extremely hard to master and takes years of practice. 2. Gaara's chakra reserves are massive due to the fact that he was born already being a jinchuriki He has enough chakra to fight in the majority of the 4th Great Ninja war without a break. he wouldn't run out for a while and absolute defense isn't dependent on his chakra and doesn't run out when he runs out meaning that it would still protect him. 3. Also Gaara doesn't keep his sand armor on 24/7 anymore since shippuden, it only if he needs to use it to conserve his chakra 4. As for Toph surviving the giant sand burial, the metal would have not fully protected her. When Gaara did the same to Kimimaro, he survived because his bones were stronger than tempered steel along with the fact that he had the curse mark to add to his durability, the metal Toph was using would most likely dent, crushing her. 5. Toph can see all of Gaara's attacks yes, but if she cannot react to them then there is no point. Gaara sand was fast enough to keep up with Rock Lee back in Naruto and it has only gotten faster since then, Toph has never shown speed even close to Lee in Naruto, so she definitely would not be able to keep up with Gaara from shippuden since he was able to stop the raikage mid attack when he was about to attack sasuke. 6. Gaara can make sand clones to throw Toph off since she would have no way of knowing who was the real Gaara. 7. Toph isn't known for taking hits too well, she's more of a glass cannon, though she is very powerful, her body int as sturdy as the rock she bends. A few good hits would end her. 8. Giving Toph Gold dust doesn't add to her power in anyway 9. Even if Toph could bend all of his sand and keep up with the speed, which we proved she can't without practicing bending sand infused with chakra, spirit, ect. she in no way has the speed required to react, dodge or direct the attack. Also keep in mind that Gaara is a decent tactician, he was the one who found out he could pull Madara from his Susano'o, he would be able to last long enough to find out what Toph was doing Toph is a beast don't get me wrong, but Gaara is just out of her league.

Since Gaara is covered in sand in this death battle she would only see sand covered "Gaaras" she has no way of telling them apart if he has his and armor on. And by your logic, since sand is just sand, even though it is infused with chakra, a living substance, and the sand infused with a soul, that means blood bending (which is what its called) is just bending liquid in the body and can be done instantly with no adjustment or practice at all, but it cant. It's like saying, if you can bend rock you can instantly adjust to bending lava Bending this sand would fall under the category of specialized bending techniques because it isnt ordinary sand. Bending something new takes time to adjust to it, which is why you don't see every earth bender bending lava, or every water bender blood bending. Gaara's sand would offer some resistance considering it's basically has its own will, making Toph unable to bend it or atleast throwing Toph's bending off.

they forgot the fact that gaara can use more jutsu than just sand-based ones, he can use wind, earth, and lightning release (although earth release wouldn't do much against an earthbender)

I feel like death battle really puts two characters with the same x factor ability (IE controlling earth) without much regard for the fact that one combatant can move faster than sound while the other is a 12 year old normal-ish human physically

I see why a lot of people disagree on that one. Especially since the skukaku didn't show up, and Gaara is a Shinobi with more abilities than just sand bending. The grand sand mausoleam, for example, is a sealing justsu which should one shot her. Edit: If we take Boruto into account, Gaara's Taijutsu skills are explicitly stated to be on par with Naruto's and he can keep up with Ototsuki so... yeah he melts

The thing is, though, the sand clones would be sand all throughout, or they wouldn't move like a real person would. With her ability to sense the Earth, she'd be able to sense the differences between the clones and the real deal based on how they moved and junk.
@aussj4link214 not the point, the point is that with her Sesmic Sense, Toph could easily tell the difference between the clone and the real Gaara. Know why? Because the Sand Clone wouldn't have any human organs!
Gaara has definitely built a more intimidating reputation. He’s portrayed as a ruthless monster, especially in the earlier episodes of naruto. If your put up against gaara. You know your in trouble. Even if you are a higher ranking than him. He never goes down easy.
If any match needs a rematch it’s this one. It’s not even that Toph won, it’s that Gaara had to be dumbed down to lose. He watches Toph bend earth, she tells him she can sense his sand, and he decides to… keep throwing it at her. He _still_ uses sand armor after this? He decides the best course of action is to lock himself in a sand dome against someone who could’ve just created a pit under him? Brain power at 0. He watched her survive sand coffin and thought it’d work out if he just threw more sand at her? Yeah, okay.
Pretty sure what actually happens in the animated fight isn't as important as the results. That's just some flavor done for our entertainment. Also what else can he do? His whole kit relies on sand. That's his thing. Is he suddenly gonna whip out fireballs, and lightning out of nowhere?

He wouldn't stand around letting her control his sand or any around him for one. It'd be a stalemate. In the show Toph has never been shown to be able to bend two versions of the same element at once. I don't remember her ever metalbending _and_ earthbending at the same time. Yet here she's the earth Avatar. Gaara wouldn't fight stupidly. He learned Kimmimaro was too tough to crush normally and fought smarter. He didn't just use sand waterfall because a lot of sand = drown. There are two ways Toph can win. She takes hostages like Deidara or she surprises him legitimately, not by him exhausting his chakra for no reason, taking a break in his bubble, and still being tired. Not even mentioning that Toph has to be faster than him. That's the only way a fight like this wouldn't be them just playing tug of war for five minutes. Plus if they can use DVD extras and comics for Toph, the results could've only been fair if they used the databooks for Gaara. _He has wind and lighting release._ Him never using them doesn't change what the databooks say, and IV came out in 2014. He had more battle experience at 12 than Toph had in her whole life.

She's won tournaments, fought a war against enhanced fire benders, and even defeated bending masters with more experience than her multiple times. She's done many impressive feats like slowing down the sinking of a massive library, and a giant drill. Where she lack in experience she make up for with raw power. Even if Gaara didn't supply her with sand, she could just get resources from the surrounding area, and if Gaara went of the defensive, and they had "equal control of the sand" I'm pretty sure Toph can break through it. Once she was able to break an iron ship in half with a single strike. And the Toph they used in the fight may be the young, but that's because it's more recognisable. They're really using a composite version, so it includes the experience of her older versions as well.

In no universe is Toph able to overpower Gaara. He helped to stop the descent of a massive meteor, has blocked attacks from the Raikage, who can and does cave in ribcages with a single hit and uses lightning armor, and survived the impact of a second giant meteor unharmed that landed on top of him. Gaara has power, an incredibly hard defense, _and_ speed. And I’m only taking his feats before the date of this video. Toph using the surrounding area would only give him more ammo. His control of sand isn’t limited to what’s in front of or behind him. Gaara has been praised for his intelligence multiple times throughout the series. To think that he would just stand there and let Toph do things is not Gaara. It’s Kiba.

And the very concept of metal bending is manipulating multiple sources of minerals, as certain metals are a composition of different minerals. And again Toph has been able to go against bending masters more experienced than her, adult more than twice her age with years of experience, fire bending soldiers that were enhanced by the comet. She was able to match King Bumi, a very talented and strong earth bender with over a hundred years of experience, and I never said Toph has more experience than Gaara. I implied that she herself has certain amount of experience. Like I said Toph is a really heavy hitter and also very strong, she was able to slow down a giant sinking library, and broke a battle ship in half with a single strike. She did this while on her own ship, raising a pillar of rock from deep under water in a mater of seconds. Gaara's armor has definitely broken with weaker attacks, add on to that Toph could also manipulate his armor herself further weakening it. And technically both of these two attacking each other will just supply one other with more ammunition, but the difference is Toph is attacking with sand, stone and metal, while Gaara still has to breakdown the stones. Also Gaara needs chakra to use his abilities, while Toph doesn't have such limitations.

They only talked about Garras sand related jutsu which aren’t his only jutsu, they didn’t bring up Shukaku at all, nor did they talk about the fact that Toph just doesn’t have the speed feats to deal with Garras sand even Rock Lee couldn’t and he was beyond sound speed bare minimum by the time he fought Garra so idk this Death Battle didn’t feel very thought out

Are you actually telling me that everyone in the avatar universe can teleport , do substitutions, control 5 elements, has incredible speed and reflexes? No I don't think so
I think the biggest failure of judgement here has to be this: Earth bending requires actual physical movement for them to actually bend earth (apart from remote earth bending, where Toph has never actually needed to do this and we have only seen Bumi (who required a great deal of concentration to pull it off) and Aang (in avatar state) do it). Gaara manipulates sand with his mind, and his ultimate defence doesn't even need thought it's basically a reactive armour. Gaara could quite literally encase Toph in sand, immobilizing her, and crushing her way before she could be even afforded the opportunity to even amass a pebble to launch at him.
That wouldn't work cuz as we seen before, toph has submerged herself in the earth it self to move as transportation. If Gaara covered her completely in sand she could just bend a hollow opening inside of it all for her to be in. She doesn't rly have to move to be able to do that also. Aslong as something earth related touches her hand or feet or even her body itself she can bend it she's done it b4
Also Toph sensed Gaara sand armor and the sand in the gourd on his back. If she really wanted it she could have just bended that and crushed him to death way sooner in the fight 🤷♂️

Gaara is powerful enough to block meteorites and hold off attacks capable of slicing mountains, ain’t no way he’s loosing. Gaara would one shot her. He can bury mountains in sand, ain’t no way toph can survive that
I’ve been an Avatar fan for a long time, and been biased to choose Toph when I saw the video. But I’ve seen Naruto all the way through for the first time just recently, and oh man what was I thinking! There’s NO WAY Gaara should have lost.
Not that this was a factor back when they made the video, but he's gotten even stronger in Boruto. It's made very clear he's on or at least close to Naruto and Sasuke's level as an adult, and they're basically gods by that point. Toph is a cool character too but Gaara is so far past any Avatar character it's downright depressing what they did to him here.

Wait, with his sand, Gaara can FLY. He can simply float in the air and muffle the sounds he makes (like breathing and his heartbeat) with his sand layers and Toph would have no clue where he was until he hit her with his attacks, which, by the way, don't necessarily have to be with earth-based materials. And his sand cannot be manipulated. He literally spends all of his waking hours infusing the sand in his gourd with his chakra, practically making it a part of his body. This fight wasn't exactly fair. They left out a bunch of Gaara's abilities.

Manipulation can be done if the manipulator's bending is more skillful or much stronger than the victim's. Toph spends her whole life, awake, asleep, whatever, using her bending on a microscopic scale to sense her surroundings. She is one with any earth she comes into contact with. She is as skilled with her element as it is possible for her to be, and she has a great deal of natural power to compliment it. You could debate that Gaara is better with sand specifically, but even so Toph has far more versatility and can manipulate the gold within the sand as well.
+Lord Obsidious Gaara could be considered a better sandbender than Toph is an earthbender because Toph (at least, not Toph from the OG Avatar- I never watched Korra) has never controlled as much as Gaara controls rather commonly later in the show. With this in mind, there are only two times a bender can control another bender's materials- if the attacking bender relinquishes control in the form of launching an attack at the other bender, the defending bender can then redirect it. The other time is when one bender is significantly more powerful than the other, and can wrest control from the other. Gaara never 'lets go' of his sand when he attacks. He is controlling it until the opponent is dead. We can assume that he is a better sandbender because of the massive amounts of sand he has controlled. With this in mind, Toph could not bend Gaara's sand and would lose.
TheTrueWolfboy The problem with that summation is that Toph is connected on a very physical level to all earth near her, all the time. She has trained herself to be constantly connected to Earth (and later metal, sand and mud), simply for the purpose of sight. Sure, she may not have Gaara's range, but as soon as that sand gets close to her it is *hers*. She knows the nuances of earthen materials on both a structural and *atomic* level (hence why she was able to detect the trace earthen impurities within solid steel). Gaara may well have the sheer power as regards sand alone, but remember that he has no direct control over the piggybacking gold dust, other than that it's connected to his sand; Toph, however, has an insane amount of influence over both the sand and dust, and can transmute the sand to her more native earth and stone at will, which Gaara can't take back until he uses more of his precious chakra to churn it up.
+Lord Obsidious If Gaara is the more powerful sandbender, which nobody is denying, then Toph's earthbending skill wouldn't matter because she wouldn't be able to take it from him in the first place. Gaara is also connected to his sand on an extremely deep level because he has poured so much chakra into his gourd sand that it has become an extension of his body. Toph cannot transform the sand because he has control over it- as evidenced by pretty much every bending fight in all of Avatar, to bend an element it has to be under your control. When benders redirect their opponent's attacks, it is because the opponent released control over the material in a launching attack. The exception is if one bender is more powerful, in which case they can simply seize control. (Example (for both of these points, actually): Katara versus Hama, the Bloodbender.) Also, Gaara has Magnet Release techniques (whatever the hell those are, I don't watch Naruto) and the gold dust isn't "piggybacking", Death Battle was blatantly incorrect about him not controlling the gold dust. Now, obviously it isn't as connected to him as his normal sand, but he still has control over it.
Toph has almost every advantage. She can sense everything he does instantly. She doesn't have a limited power source. She can disperse/control all his attacks. He is using the thing she controls against her, how would she lose?

Gaara has been proven to be able to fact to and attack the Raikage, which is lightning speed. Lightning = 224,000 mph. Therefore, Gaaras attack > Tophs sight. She would still see him in a spot only to have her head ripped off by an attack. 2: SHe DOES have a limited power source, her body. Benders require physical stamina to bend, as shown when she fatigues when holding up the castle. Gaara relies on spiritual energy, chakra, which is almost limitless 3: Gaara "bending" feats: A) Covering a whole field in sand generated by him in an instant. B) Condensing that sand so that it can crush a material many times the strength of steel. C) Making a flood of sand 100x the above. D) Catching up to a literal lightning quick opponent E) Blocking a nuke F) CATCHING TWO MOON SIZED ASTEROIDS G) Making a functioning human eyeball H) Creating life (clones) Toph: A)I throw rox. B) Holding up a medium sized castle If anything, this proves that Gaara should be able to overpower HER control, because he's better at "bending" than she is. Also knows Earth Style Relase, which ironically make him a better earth bender than she is :p 4: She loses by getting a kunai to the face
Jason Dunne She can't see/feel sand, her ability to detect objects are fuzzy and static in the desert sands, she would have no way to see sand attacks and therefore can not counter them. There are entire episodes pointing that weakness out.
Towards the end of the series in book 3 she trained herself in sand bending so much she was able to make the entire city of bah sing se in a sand sculpture… including a mini earth king and bear.. which means she can see what she’s making in…. Sand.
What about the fact that Gaara’s sand isn’t just sand itself but has his chakra infused within it letting him control it, would Toph be able bypass the sand armor with Gaara’s chakra still in it?
Of course, Sand is still sand it doesn't matter if it has life energy in it, Katara could steal water from plants and some water benders can bend plants and blood so the same logic would apply to earth benders if it has your element in it you can control it.

I've seen every Naruto and Naruto Shippuden Episode up to date, and read all the manga. I've also watched all of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but I have not watched Legend of Korra yet. Though, considering in TLOK Toph is elderly, I would have to assume that she is at a condition lesser or equal to that of her younger self so the Toph from ATLA would be better anyway. Yet, none of the above should be necessary considering that Toph is only a regular human that can bend earthly materials, while ninjas from the Naruto universe are superhuman and have far more abilities than just manipulating earth.
you even said it your self - the sand sphere can be as dense as steal, but what you have lacked in understanding is that Toph can bend metal to that just below platinum, thus not giving him time to formulate a plan from his superior military tactics (which i don't deny he has) but you are only giving all the facts towards one character and the bare minimum to the other. - if you are going by his abilities at the end of the series ( not sure if it's finished as i'm not a huge fan of Naruto ) you will have to go by Toph's at the end of the Avatar series which can detect you regardless because she can feel the attacks coming as they happen through the earth its self from any distance (including any earth not touching the ground

There are not many things about Toph: she can bend earthly materials including rock, sand, metal, mud etc and has the ability to sense using seismic waves. It was explained in Gara's section that his sand is incredibly fast and can be changed greatly in it's size, shape and form. He has shown many times that he is well experienced and intelligent enough to learn counter measures and strategies. It also needs to be taken into account that Toph is very playful and young while Gara is more wise and patient. Gara has multiple huge and powerful techniques such as sand Tsunami and raining sand shuriken, to me and many other people it seems that it would be VERY hard to avoid things like that especially because Toph is blind and can only sense ground movement not air. And how can she sense the sand coming right at her at great speeds like faster than the speed of sound as it was mentioned before and still block it. She can only sense the ground and if she is using hearing to tell that the sand is coming right at her in THE AIR then that's very unlikely and doesn't make any sense. Gara can also use his sand to make himself fly and raise huge amounts of sand above him, Toph would be completely at a disadvantage when Gara does this and has no counter measures for it. Also the combat movement in Naruto is DRASTICALLY different compared to Avatar the Last Airbender, Toph can move around with the earth yes but what I mean is the speed and pace of the fight, Gara doesn't move fast but his attacks and defenses do, Toph is slower and isn't used to this speed while Gara is fighting people like Rock Lee, Sasuke and other really fast ninja. Gara's overall toolkit is much more versatile in attacks and defense and can Effectively hit Toph's blind spots (literally). Gara's absolute defense is much more stronger than any defense Toph has and if she even tries to come close to it Gara can create A LITERAL SAND EYE OUTSIDE TO SEE WHAT SHE IS DOING, like CMON DO YOU THINK GARA IS GOING TO LET HER COME CLOSE AND BEND THE SAND WHILE HE IS INSIDE like no he isn't. Toph probably won't have any access to metal so that's useless, she'll rely on the earth and that she has to use her limbs to bend BUT GARA DOESN'T, Gara can keep his distance and has much more deadlier techniques, that's a very key weakness that Gara can exploit very well, he can create diversions and capture a body part of hers with sand coffin, she can create turn that into rock instantly but what if he captures not her hand with sand coffin but her arm, this technique is very fast and she wont be able to bend it fast enough to save herself and her hand will not be touching the sand to be able to bend it anyway. This strategy would secure Gara an easy win because Toph would not be able to do anything about his fast movement and ranged attacks. Although it's not as strong as his sand barriers and absolute defense, Gara's sand amour is no push over as it can withstand many hits. Although it's not his strong point, Gara also got better in Taijutsu, his up close attacks and capabilities are better and can be used as an advantage if need be, Toph is not a good fighter in martial arts so Gara can use that, this is unlikely though because it's not necessary to win. Toph is also 12 YEAARS OLD she does not have the mental capacity, energy and experience to BEAT Gara, this dude has been fighting for his life and was much stronger at a younger age. AND IF ALL ELSE FAILS (VERY VERY VERY UNLIKELY) Gara can literally sink the sand and earth, as shown in the Avatar show, Toph struggled to fight her best in sand and prevent the earth to sink. Toph will have no chance in hitting Gara anyway and she'll never be able to get in close. There is absolutely no way Toph can win because of Gara's really fast automatic defenses and his powerful and fast attacks. I don't know much about Gaara so I'm not saying anything about him, and I'm not trying to start any debate or argument, I'm just giving my 2 cents.... Ok, just gonna say that Toph, in her prime, is able to bend sand, metal, and most other earth based substances. Based on the analysis, yes I do think that Gaara had more capabilities than Toph, but you have to give it to Toph. She's learned how to be extremely versatile even with just regular Earthbending, which in my opinion, is not a largely versatile type of bending on its own.

How is she anywhere near as strong or as fast as rock lee? Additionally she still feels impact and has no control over chakra so if garra berated her with sand bullets wouldn’t it just tear through stone and take her out especially since he can multitask and use other attacks to just fling her in the air or crush her feet (mind you if she jumps he can still counter that with just extending another piece of sand beneath her further knocking her into the air)
All the Avatar fans like "omgee, stoopid animu fans Toph really would have won". Seriously, look at the facts, Gaara would have destroyed Toph. The Sand Burial alone would've killed Toph, but in regards of the kill, she wouldn't have been able to get behind him in the first place. Now, I love avatar. I've watched every episode and am on 264 of shippuden after watching naruto. One thing I'd like to stress is that toph couldn't have got to him at the end. I't's been shown that the only way to beat Gaara's defense is with enourmous momentary power (Gaara vs Diedera) or enourmous speed. Now, I'm not saying toph isn't strong because she is but gaara's sand didn't even try to protect him. Also there is no way that his sand was that slow. Before he was even a chunin, let alone kazekage, rock lee was only just fast enough to hit him after taking of his leg weights (which have been shown to be ridiculously heavy) and only making significant damage after opening a few gates. Also, gaara was quick enough to switch himself to a clone when lee blinked! Litteraly in the blink of an eye he evaded the primary lotus! IN ABOUT EPISODE 60! Even if he wants to hurt himself his sand will rush up to protect him. The guy actually asked what pain felt like and didn't feel it until he was about 12 even after a couple of A-rank missions. There is no way that toph could reach him so quilckly. I know h wasn't close to the ground but sand would rush from his gord or anything close to him to protect him and you clearly debuffed him. If he used sand tsunami or controlled toph she'd die and don't even get me started on that sand coffin stuff. Toph basically sand coffins gaara at the end so if that's worked on gaara why has toph got some sort of immunity to it???

Metal would work too, as long as it is made as pure as possible. The purer the metal, the less earth in the metal. Meaning using the purest form of any metal would be effective as well.
Gaara can fly and can make his sand fly! Toph wouldn't even be able to see where he is much less send rocks at him. And his sand would stop her boulders with no problem cause he held up a meteorite before. Also the amount of sand he can control would've overwhelmed her. This fight isn't well thought at all

This^ Kimimaro stated his bones to be stronger than metal, also that he would have died if it wasn't boosted by the curse mark. There was multiple time Garaa would have killed her. She would have been shredded or soffocated under the desert.
If you couldn't tell from the visuals, during Sand Coffin she was encased in armor. They give both characters abilities from their finest moments, and Toph was shown to have mastered sand after a time. I don't watch either shows, but they thoroughly covered both source materials here. The main bonus for Toph? The gold dust, which Gaara usually uses as a bonus, became just more ammo for Toph's defensive abilities through metal bending for armor.
I believe gaara would win. His sand could literally do aerial attacks. Who ever said that gaara had to be on the ground in the fight???? No one, and that's where he gets the major advantage. She's not as fast as lee(or any ninja really) so avoiding and dodging would be incredibly difficult. Plus all he would really need to do is just stay in the air and attack. She might be able to tell where the attacks are, but it won't be accurate as sand is the one mineral she has the most trouble with "seeing". I love toph and if the battle was restricted to the ground, then she WOULD win. I think the terrain has a lot to play in their fight.

speed don't matter when neither gara or toph is touching the element they are controlling! if they were using swords speed would matter alot but that is not the case!
I love Toph but she's no match for Gaara. Even if his Sand techniques were completely useless against her (which they wouldn't be because of their sheer speed) Gaara could just run up to her at half the speed of sound and punch her with the force of a truck.
My question is, if Toph sees with seismic sonar (feeling vibrations from whatever touches the ground), then how can she tell when an airborne projectile is incoming with the same precise she can detect ants, that actually touch the ground??? What's eveb more confusing is when they fight in the desert... knowing the loose sand interferes with Toph's seismic sight, how can she see comeone not just standing on sand, but flying on sand... over a desert?!?!
She can see flying rocks as seen in the episode the blind bandit and by the end of the series she was a very precise and skilled sand bender you can see that if you watch the first bit of the final episode
The show is inconsistent with it. In her debut appearance it was assumed she can tell rocks in the air. In later episodes sometimes toph or katara had to direct her against incoming projectiles.

Akuma Tenshu Goku is limited to earth he needs oxgen to breath, Superman blitzed wonderman to the sun and back in under two minutes the speed would have killed Goku, that is something Goku can't handle he needs to focus to use instant mission that is why he couldn't save Gohan, gotten and trunks. Now for Toph yes Gaara is faster and has combat experience but as GI Joe famously said "Knowing is half the battle" Gaara doesn't know about Toph's earthbending, without Shukaku's chakura reserves he can't pull off those massive attacks like he could during the fight with Daidera and the bone guy
Akuma Tenshu Toph is different from all of gaara's foes, that where people make mistakes, she can influence Gaara's sand, she knows were Gaara is because of his sand.and has forewarning because of her sesmic sense. The amount of force it takes to crush a body is close to 2 tons because Toph slowed the descent of the Spirit Library which looks like India's Taj Mahal which weighs 2.5 trillion kilos one kilo is 2.2 pounds, she would be able to assured more then enough force to escape sand Burial. so crushing her with sand is off the table. Goku is not wonderman, and his durability is much lower too, he also burns a lot of energy. so he can't keep fighting constantly Its like 18 versus Vegeta little by little Superman would gain the upper hand because he has a constant supply of energy the sun. Goku has to rely on his ki reserves. its like a lab top on high performance versus a TV plugged into the wall, the laptop will die out first, but lets take this a step further Superman can go on without the sun so we attach a generator to that TV as well. that eating of food isn't just for laughs Goku consumes a lot of energy he is like the shrew, the shrew has to eat every two hours or so or he dies became he consumes so much energy yet moves really really fast.
I think anyone who is a fan of both shows would see that this is bullshit and you guys really short changed Gaara. 1. Speed- as mention in the video Gaara's sand can move at near the speed of sound. What they failed to notice is that sand can move faster than a C4 explosion at point blank range proven when he protected his village from Deidara's attack. Not only has Toph never shown anywhere near this speed she has never even seen anything this fast. I believe it was Rock Lee who said something along the lines of "it doesn't matter if you can see the attack coming if you are not fast enough to react to it". 2. Power- Gaara can use his sand to crush tempered steal as shown in his fight against Kimimaro. While Toph can bend metal directly (kind of) she has never bent rock or sand with enough force to crack steal. 3. Armor of sand- yes the armor of sand requires more chakra to maintain which is why he doesn't keep it up all the time. To suggest that he does and that he was worn out from using it is ridiculous. 4. Gold dust and metal bending- yes gold ore would have such impurities but Gaara was using gold dust. Gold dust wouldn't have the same impurities as gold ore because it would be refined and ground into a fine powder removing most impurities. I find it hard to believe that Toph could easily use it to her advantage. 5. Sand funeral- This relates to the issues of power mentioned earlier. Gaara's sand funeral has enough force to to crack tempered steal. What defense does Toph have that could resist this? The only metal she would have access to would be the (supposedly) gold ore in Gaara's sand and maybe some iron minerals in the ground, but remember that this is iron and gold in the form of sand and dust. Sure she can make sand into rock but when has she ever made iron ore into a solid sheet of iron (as depicted in your video) and even assuming she could do this, an armor made from raw iron ore would never be as strong as tempered steal so again how is it that Toph survived the sand funeral? 6. Defense- Even assuming that Toph was able to get around all of Gaara's attacks she still does not possess the speed or power to get by his defenses. Rock Lee had to break the sound barrier to get around Gaara's sand and even then a split second laps in judgement gave Gaara enough time to use a substitution technique. Toph's attacks aren't nearly that fast. There is nothing that Toph can throw at Gaara that could pierce his defenses.
Almost forgot my last two points. 7. Absolute Defense- Toph would never be able to get that close to Gaara (like she did when she killed him) because of his absolute defense. Remember it blocks every attack regardless of his will, regardless of weather or not he notices the attack himself, and regardless of him even being conscious. Surely with so much of his energy present in the armor he would have more "dominion" over it. First the people who created her character said she could do it and second she has done it in the Avatar series boy dodging and deflecting rocks that were thrown at her. Shouldnt this be more so down to endurance and whether or not one of them could take control of material from the other? Levels of stamina? Garaa is basically superhuman while Toph is just a human. He undergoes superhuman levels of training throughout the entire anime. Yes he needs chakra to move sand, but that's makes his sand control that much stronger and gives him an edge over Toph. She may very well be able to control all those forms of earth. But we aren't talking about the quantity in which she can control but the quality. Not only does Garaa have more experience with bending sand but he can bend it on a larger scale. If this all came down to a tug a war then Garaa wins hands down. Just for the record naruto is nowhere near my favorite anime and I've watched every episode of The Last Airbender.

Technically speaking, Toph could've just telekinetically crushed Gaara inside his own sand armor from a distance. But that wouldn't have been as entertaining to watch.

Ok, let me tell you why that's bullshit (THIS IS LONG)
1. Gaara's sand is infused with both his own chakra and he also has the sand infused by his mother. Toph isn't bending regular sand so to assume she can just use and redirect it like normal and doesn't make sense. It's basically controlling someone else, so it would fall under the category of bloodbending which is extremely hard to master and takes years of practice.
2. Gaara's chakra reserves are massive due to the fact that he was born already being a jinchuriki He has enough chakra to fight in the majority of the 4th Great Ninja war without a break. he wouldn't run out for a while and absolute defense isn't dependent on his chakra and doesn't run out when he runs out meaning that it would still protect him.
3. Also Gaara doesn't keep his sand armor on 24/7 anymore since shippuden, it only if he needs to use it to conserve his chakra
4. As for Toph surviving the giant sand burial, the metal would have not fully protected her. When Gaara did the same to Kimimaro, he survived because his bones were stronger than tempered steel along with the fact that he had the curse mark to add to his durability, the metal Toph was using would most likely dent, crushing her.
5. Toph can see all of Gaara's attacks yes, but if she cannot react to them then there is no point.
Gaara sand was fast enough to keep up with Rock Lee back in Naruto and it has only gotten faster since then, Toph has never shown speed even close to Lee in Naruto, so she definitely would not be able to keep up with Gaara from shippuden since he was able to stop the raikage mid attack when he was about to attack sasuke.
6. Gaara can make sand clones to throw Toph off since she would have no way of knowing who was the real Gaara.
7. Toph isn't known for taking hits too well, she's more of a glass cannon, though she is very powerful, her body int as sturdy as the rock she bends. A few good hits would end her.
8. Giving Toph Gold dust doesn't add to her power in anyway

Even if Toph could bend all of his sand and keep up with the speed, which we proved she can't without practicing bending sand infused with chakra, spirit, ect. she in no way has the speed required to react, dodge or direct the attack. Since Gaara is covered in sand in this death battle she would only see sand covered "Gaaras" she has no way of telling them apart if he has his and armor on.
And by your logic, since sand is just sand, even though it is infused with chakra, a living substance, and the sand infused with a soul, that means blood bending (which is what its called) is just bending liquid in the body and can be done instantly with no adjustment or practice at all, but it cant.
It's like saying, if you can bend rock you can instantly adjust to bending lava
Bending this sand would fall under the category of specialized bending techniques because it isnt ordinary sand.
Bending something new takes time to adjust to it, which is why you don't see every earth bender bending lava, or every water bender blood bending. Gaara's sand would offer some resistance considering it's basically has its own will, making Toph unable to bend it or atleast throwing Toph's bending off.

I see why a lot of people disagree on that one. Especially since the skukaku didn't show up, and Gaara is a Shinobi with more abilities than just sand bending. The grand sand mausoleam, for example, is a sealing justsu which should one shot her.

He watched her survive sand coffin and thought it’d work out if he just threw more sand at her? Yeah, okay.

He wouldn't stand around letting her control his sand or any around him for one. It'd be a stalemate. In the show Toph has never been shown to be able to bend two versions of the same element at once. I don't remember her ever metalbending _and_ earthbending at the same time. Yet here she's the earth Avatar.
Gaara wouldn't fight stupidly. He learned Kimmimaro was too tough to crush normally and fought smarter. He didn't just use sand waterfall because a lot of sand = drown. There are two ways Toph can win. She takes hostages like Deidara or she surprises him legitimately, not by him exhausting his chakra for no reason, taking a break in his bubble, and still being tired. Not even mentioning that Toph has to be faster than him. That's the only way a fight like this wouldn't be them just playing tug of war for five minutes.
Plus if they can use DVD extras and comics for Toph, the results could've only been fair if they used the databooks for Gaara. _He has wind and lighting release._ Him never using them doesn't change what the databooks say, and IV came out in 2014. He had more battle experience at 12 than Toph had in her whole life.

She has plenty experience. She's won tournaments, fought a war against enhanced fire benders, and even defeated bending masters with more experience than her multiple times.
She's done many impressive feats like slowing down the sinking of a massive library, and a giant drill. Where she lack in experience she make up for with raw power.
Even if Gaara didn't supply her with sand, she could just get resources from the surrounding area, and if Gaara went of the defensive, and they had "equal control of the sand" I'm pretty sure Toph can break through it. Once she was able to break an iron ship in half with a single strike.
And the Toph they used in the fight may be the young, but that's because it's more recognisable. They're really using a composite version, so it includes the experience of her older versions as well.

In no universe is Toph able to overpower Gaara. He helped to stop the descent of a massive meteor, has blocked attacks from the Raikage, who can and does cave in ribcages with a single hit and uses lightning armor, and survived the impact of a second giant meteor unharmed that landed on top of him. Gaara has power, an incredibly hard defense, _and_ speed. And I’m only taking his feats before the date of this video.
Toph using the surrounding area would only give him more ammo. His control of sand isn’t limited to what’s in front of or behind him. Gaara has been praised for his intelligence multiple times throughout the series. To think that he would just stand there and let Toph do things is not Gaara. It’s Kiba.

Seismic sense is an earth bending technique, and metal bending is different. And the very concept of metal bending is manipulating multiple sources of minerals, as certain metals are a composition of different minerals.
And again Toph has been able to go against bending masters more experienced than her, adult more than twice her age with years of experience, fire bending soldiers that were enhanced by the comet. She was able to match King Bumi, a very talented and strong earth bender with over a hundred years of experience, and I never said Toph has more experience than Gaara. I implied that she herself has certain amount of experience.
Like I said Toph is a really heavy hitter and also very strong, she was able to slow down a giant sinking library, and broke a battle ship in half with a single strike. She did this while on her own ship, raising a pillar of rock from deep under water in a mater of seconds. Gaara's armor has definitely broken with weaker attacks, add on to that Toph could also manipulate his armor herself further weakening it.
And technically both of these two attacking each other will just supply one other with more ammunition, but the difference is Toph is attacking with sand, stone and metal, while Gaara still has to breakdown the stones.
Also Gaara needs chakra to use his abilities, while Toph doesn't have such limitations.
Toph must be a saltbender as well.

I think the biggest failure of judgement here has to be this: Earth bending requires actual physical movement for them to actually bend earth (apart from remote earth bending, where Toph has never actually needed to do this and we have only seen Bumi (who required a great deal of concentration to pull it off) and Aang (in avatar state) do it). Gaara manipulates sand with his mind, and his ultimate defence doesn't even need thought it's basically a reactive armour. Gaara could quite literally encase Toph in sand, immobilizing her, and crushing her way before she could be even afforded the opportunity to even amass a pebble to launch at him.

Gaara has Sand, wind, earth and magnet releases, he has surpassed his tailed beast monster in power, has enough chakra to fight against a continental level Madara, tank massive country level attacks and is fast to react to massively hypersonic level attacks. Please come with logical and rational reason for why Toph would win against someone 10x more powerful than Avatar State Aang, don't just comment "sAlTy" or calling people "wEebs" that enjoy a genre that inspired Avatar and leaving it at that it's not helping you or any Avatar fan in this comment section to be willfully ignorant. Go to a battle forum, read up on power scaling and feats, Who Would Win doesn't mean which character you like more.
All I'm saying is that almost any manga or anime based on fighting action or adventure, has characters that above human would crush the Avatarverse examples Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Kill la Kill, To Love-Ru, Highschool DXD, Blazblue, Black Clover, Trigun, Yu Yu Hakusho, Fairy Tail, Toriko, Noblesse, Claymore, Beelzebub, Hakuto no Ken, et. And I like Avatar more than 90% of the anime I just mentioned, we have to be fair and logical here.

The thing i'm confused about is that gaaras sand had its own will to move, how can it be bended by toph, even if, it wouldn't be an easy job for her.
WIth him also having super human SPEED and strength that could easily blitz toph in miliseconds, and also has other jutsu he can use besides sand, and can be scaled above a tailed beast in the war arc.

I’ve been an Avatar fan for a long time, and been biased to choose Toph when I saw the video. But I’ve seen Naruto all the way through for the first time just recently, and oh man what was I thinking! There’s NO WAY Gaara should have lost.
Not that this was a factor back when they made the video, but he's gotten even stronger in Boruto. It's made very clear he's on or at least close to Naruto and Sasuke's level as an adult, and they're basically gods by that point. Toph is a cool character too but Gaara is so far past any Avatar character it's downright depressing what they did to him here.

Wait, with his sand, Gaara can FLY. He can simply float in the air and muffle the sounds he makes (like breathing and his heartbeat) with his sand layers and Toph would have no clue where he was until he hit her with his attacks, which, by the way, don't necessarily have to be with earth-based materials. And his sand cannot be manipulated. He literally spends all of his waking hours infusing the sand in his gourd with his chakra, practically making it a part of his body.

And yes, in Avatar all bending is done from chi, the equivalent to Chakra. Manipulation can be done if the manipulator's bending is more skillful or much stronger than the victim's. Toph spends her whole life, awake, asleep, whatever, using her bending on a microscopic scale to sense her surroundings. She is one with any earth she comes into contact with. She is as skilled with her element as it is possible for her to be, and she has a great deal of natural power to compliment it. You could debate that Gaara is better with sand specifically, but even so Toph has far more versatility and can manipulate the gold within the sand as well.
+Lord Obsidious Gaara could be considered a better sandbender than Toph is an earthbender because Toph (at least, not Toph from the OG Avatar- I never watched Korra) has never controlled as much as Gaara controls rather commonly later in the show. With this in mind, there are only two times a bender can control another bender's materials- if the attacking bender relinquishes control in the form of launching an attack at the other bender, the defending bender can then redirect it. The other time is when one bender is significantly more powerful than the other, and can wrest control from the other.
Gaara never 'lets go' of his sand when he attacks. He is controlling it until the opponent is dead. We can assume that he is a better sandbender because of the massive amounts of sand he has controlled. With this in mind, Toph could not bend Gaara's sand and would lose.

She has trained herself to be constantly connected to Earth (and later metal, sand and mud), simply for the purpose of sight. Sure, she may not have Gaara's range, but as soon as that sand gets close to her it is *hers*. She knows the nuances of earthen materials on both a structural and *atomic* level (hence why she was able to detect the trace earthen impurities within solid steel). Gaara may well have the sheer power as regards sand alone, but remember that he has no direct control over the piggybacking gold dust, other than that it's connected to his sand; Toph, however, has an insane amount of influence over both the sand and dust, and can transmute the sand to her more native earth and stone at will, which Gaara can't take back until he uses more of his precious chakra to churn it up.

If Gaara is the more powerful sandbender, which nobody is denying, then Toph's earthbending skill wouldn't matter because she wouldn't be able to take it from him in the first place. Gaara is also connected to his sand on an extremely deep level because he has poured so much chakra into his gourd sand that it has become an extension of his body. Toph cannot transform the sand because he has control over it- as evidenced by pretty much every bending fight in all of Avatar, to bend an element it has to be under your control. When benders redirect their opponent's attacks, it is because the opponent released control over the material in a launching attack. The exception is if one bender is more powerful, in which case they can simply seize control. (Example (for both of these points, actually): Katara versus Hama, the Bloodbender.)
Also, Gaara has Magnet Release techniques (whatever the hell those are, I don't watch Naruto) and the gold dust isn't "piggybacking", Death Battle was blatantly incorrect about him not controlling the gold dust. Now, obviously it isn't as connected to him as his normal sand, but he still has control over it.

Gaara has been proven to be able to fact to and attack the Raikage, which is lightning speed. Lightning = 224,000 mph. Therefore, Gaaras attack > Tophs sight. She would still see him in a spot only to have her head ripped off by an attack.
2: SHe DOES have a limited power source, her body. Benders require physical stamina to bend, as shown when she fatigues when holding up the castle. Gaara relies on spiritual energy, chakra, which is almost limitless

She can't see/feel sand, her ability to detect objects are fuzzy and static in the desert sands, she would have no way to see sand attacks and therefore can not counter them. There are entire episodes pointing that weakness out.

Towards the end of the series in book 3 she trained herself in sand bending so much she was able to make the entire city of bah sing se in a sand sculpture… including a mini earth king and bear.. which means she can see what she’s making in…. Sand.

What about the fact that Gaara’s sand isn’t just sand itself but has his chakra infused within it letting him control it, would Toph be able bypass the sand armor with Gaara’s chakra still in it?
Of course, Sand is still sand it doesn't matter if it has life energy in it, Katara could steal water from plants and some water benders can bend plants and blood so the same logic would apply to earth benders if it has your element in it you can control it.

Please redo this, because this is far from accurate. Even if they are from two entirely different universes, Gaara is still far superior to Toph in every way: abilities, speed, strength, durability, stamina, military/combat tactics/strategy, senses, etc. Not even sorry for the long comment.

I've seen every Naruto and Naruto Shippuden Episode up to date, and read all the manga. I've also watched all of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but I have not watched Legend of Korra yet. Though, considering in TLOK Toph is elderly, I would have to assume that she is at a condition lesser or equal to that of her younger self so the Toph from ATLA would be better anyway. Yet, none of the above should be necessary considering that Toph is only a regular human that can bend earthly materials, while ninjas from the Naruto universe are superhuman and have far more abilities than just manipulating earth.
you even said it your self - the sand sphere can be as dense as steal, but what you have lacked in understanding is that Toph can bend metal to that just below platinum, thus not giving him time to formulate a plan from his superior military tactics (which i don't deny he has) but you are only giving all the facts towards one character and the bare minimum to the other. - if you are going by his abilities at the end of the series ( not sure if it's finished as i'm not a huge fan of Naruto ) you will have to go by Toph's at the end of the Avatar series which can detect you regardless because she can feel the attacks coming as they happen through the earth its self from any distance (including any earth not touching the ground

Read my 3rd comment. 3. Being as dense/hard as steel does not make it steel. It's still sand, and the control of his own sand > Toph's ability to control Gaara's sand. 4. There are not many things about Toph: she can bend earthly materials including rock, sand, metal, mud etc and has the ability to sense using seismic waves. As I mentioned already, Gaara too has the ability to sense things that are touching any sand around him. Sure he can't sense things in air like Toph, but he can see them and dodge them. 5. As mentioned, and which I'm assuming you didn't read, Gaara just needs to wound Toph once and she's done because he can use his sand to restrict her movements. He doesn't even have to use his sand for that. Which leads to 6. He has superhuman speed, superhuman strength, superhuman cognition, he can use weapons, he can use ninjutsu other than just sand, he would definitely win in hand in hand to combat because Toph is only a human and Gaara is superhuman and is adept in taijutsu.

Wow, this is incredibly inaccurate
It was explained in Gara's section that his sand is incredibly fast and can be changed greatly in it's size, shape and form. He has shown many times that he is well experienced and intelligent enough to learn counter measures and strategies. It also needs to be taken into account that Toph is very playful and young while Gara is more wise and patient. Gara has multiple huge and powerful techniques such as sand Tsunami and raining sand shuriken, to me and many other people it seems that it would be VERY hard to avoid things like that especially because Toph is blind and can only sense ground movement not air. And how can she sense the sand coming right at her at great speeds like faster than the speed of sound as it was mentioned before and still block it. She can only sense the ground and if she is using hearing to tell that the sand is coming right at her in THE AIR then that's very unlikely and doesn't make any sense. Gara can also use his sand to make himself fly and raise huge amounts of sand above him, Toph would be completely at a disadvantage when Gara does this and has no counter measures for it. Also the combat movement in Naruto is DRASTICALLY different compared to Avatar the Last Airbender, Toph can move around with the earth yes but what I mean is the speed and pace of the fight, Gara doesn't move fast but his attacks and defenses do, Toph is slower and isn't used to this speed while Gara is fighting people like Rock Lee, Sasuke and other really fast ninja. Gara's overall toolkit is much more versatile in attacks and defense and can Effectively hit Toph's blind spots (literally). Gara's absolute defense is much more stronger than any defense Toph has and if she even tries to come close to it Gara can create A LITERAL SAND EYE OUTSIDE TO SEE WHAT SHE IS DOING, like CMON DO YOU THINK GARA IS GOING TO LET HER COME CLOSE AND BEND THE SAND WHILE HE IS INSIDE like no he isn't. Toph probably won't have any access to metal so that's useless, she'll rely on the earth and that she has to use her limbs to bend BUT GARA DOESN'T, Gara can keep his distance and has much more deadlier techniques, that's a very key weakness that Gara can exploit very well, he can create diversions and capture a body part of hers with sand coffin, she can create turn that into rock instantly but what if he captures not her hand with sand coffin but her arm, this technique is very fast and she wont be able to bend it fast enough to save herself and her hand will not be touching the sand to be able to bend it anyway. This strategy would secure Gara an easy win because Toph would not be able to do anything about his fast movement and ranged attacks. Although it's not as strong as his sand barriers and absolute defense, Gara's sand amour is no push over as it can withstand many hits. Although it's not his strong point, Gara also got better in Taijutsu, his up close attacks and capabilities are better and can be used as an advantage if need be, Toph is not a good fighter in martial arts so Gara can use that, this is unlikely though because it's not necessary to win. Toph is also 12 YEAARS OLD she does not have the mental capacity, energy and experience to BEAT Gara, this dude has been fighting for his life and was much stronger at a younger age. AND IF ALL ELSE FAILS (VERY VERY VERY UNLIKELY) Gara can literally sink the sand and earth, as shown in the Avatar show, Toph struggled to fight her best in sand and prevent the earth to sink. Toph will have no chance in hitting Gara anyway and she'll never be able to get in close. There is absolutely no way Toph can win because of Gara's really fast automatic defenses and his powerful and fast attacks. I wasted a very long time constructing and writing a well thought out message explaining to thorough detail that Gara is the clear victor here. Do not take everything that Death battle states as a fact because in many of their videos the explanation of the battles and advantages and disadvantages don't make sense as shown in the ACTUAL BATTLE GARA IS JUST STANDING THERE THROWING SAND BALLS OVER AND OVER AND THEN JUST DIES. The way Gara battled in the video was very underwhelming and boring and shows how wrong they are. I have no problem with Death battle making the battle even at first but there is in now way you illustrate the battle that MUCH INTO TOPHS favor, Death battle puts so much effort into all their videos and I love them as well but this fight was just not good and was not up to the standard as others. This comment was basically meant summarize everything Gara has over Toph and to show how much stronger he is compared to her. I have watched both shows and like them very much, I have a lot of biased towards Gara I admit but I think I displayed very good reasoning to how Gara can defeat Toph. This was created out of pure salty discomfort and disbelief of mine and I just felt like giving a well made comment showing how wrong this battle outcome was and making myself more contented knowing that I am right. I don't know much about Gaara so I'm not saying anything about him, and I'm not trying to start any debate or argument, I'm just giving my 2 cents.... Ok, just gonna say that Toph, in her prime, is able to bend sand, metal, and most other earth based substances. Based on the analysis, yes I do think that Gaara had more capabilities than Toph, but you have to give it to Toph. She's learned how to be extremely versatile even with just regular Earthbending, which in my opinion, is not a largely versatile type of bending on its own.

The Sand Burial alone would've killed Toph, but in regards of the kill, she wouldn't have been able to get behind him in the first place. Nothing Toph can do is strong or fast enough to get past Gaara's sand. He's basically untouchable.

On top of all the other stuff I said, when she killed him by punching him in the back of the head or whatever, I honestly doubt that would've broken his sand armor, considering Rock Lee's Hidden Lotus didn't do it, and that left a huge crater in the ground. Second, she wouldn't have been have been able to use his Absolute Defense against him, considering how much chakra his sand contains. It would've resisted her Earth Bending. Thirdly, just because she can see his sand coming doesn't mean she can move fast enough to dodge it. Gaara's sand moves at near supersonic speeds, and I've never seen Toph move that fast.

Now, I love avatar. I've watched every episode and am on 264 of shippuden after watching naruto. One thing I'd like to stress is that toph couldn't have got to him at the end. I't's been shown that the only way to beat Gaara's defense is with enourmous momentary power (Gaara vs Diedera) or enourmous speed. Now, I'm not saying toph isn't strong because she is but gaara's sand didn't even try to protect him. Also there is no way that his sand was that slow. Before he was even a chunin, let alone kazekage, rock lee was only just fast enough to hit him after taking of his leg weights (which have been shown to be ridiculously heavy) and only making significant damage after opening a few gates. Also, gaara was quick enough to switch himself to a clone when lee blinked! Litteraly in the blink of an eye he evaded the primary lotus! IN ABOUT EPISODE 60! Even if he wants to hurt himself his sand will rush up to protect him. The guy actually asked what pain felt like and didn't feel it until he was about 12 even after a couple of A-rank missions. There is no way that toph could reach him so quilckly. I know h wasn't close to the ground but sand would rush from his gord or anything close to him to protect him and you clearly debuffed him. If he used sand tsunami or controlled toph she'd die and don't even get me started on that sand coffin stuff. Toph basically sand coffins gaara at the end so if that's worked on gaara why has toph got some sort of immunity to it???

That was about 70 years ago. Toph mastered sand after that incident as they said. Watch the anime before you speak.
If you couldn't tell from the visuals, during Sand Coffin she was encased in armor. They give both characters abilities from their finest moments, and Toph was shown to have mastered sand after a time. I don't watch either shows, but they thoroughly covered both source materials here.
The main bonus for Toph? The gold dust, which Gaara usually uses as a bonus, became just more ammo for Toph's defensive abilities through metal bending for armor.
I believe gaara would win. His sand could literally do aerial attacks. Who ever said that gaara had to be on the ground in the fight???? No one, and that's where he gets the major advantage. She's not as fast as lee(or any ninja really) so avoiding and dodging would be incredibly difficult. Plus all he would really need to do is just stay in the air and attack. She might be able to tell where the attacks are, but it won't be accurate as sand is the one mineral she has the most trouble with "seeing". I love toph and if the battle was restricted to the ground, then she WOULD win. I think the terrain has a lot to play in their fight.

She can see flying rocks as seen in the episode the blind bandit and by the end of the series she was a very precise and skilled sand bender you can see that if you watch the first bit of the final episode
The show is inconsistent with it. In her debut appearance it was assumed she can tell rocks in the air. In later episodes sometimes toph or katara had to direct her against incoming projectiles.

Akuma Tenshu Goku is limited to earth he needs oxgen to breath, Superman blitzed wonderman to the sun and back in under two minutes the speed would have killed Goku, that is something Goku can't handle he needs to focus to use instant mission that is why he couldn't save Gohan, gotten and trunks.
Now for Toph yes Gaara is faster and has combat experience but as GI Joe famously said "Knowing is half the battle" Gaara doesn't know about Toph's earthbending, without Shukaku's chakura reserves he can't pull off those massive attacks like he could during the fight with Daidera and the bone guy
Akuma Tenshu Toph is different from all of gaara's foes, that where people make mistakes, she can influence Gaara's sand, she knows were Gaara is because of his sand.and has forewarning because of her sesmic sense.
The amount of force it takes to crush a body is close to 2 tons because Toph slowed the descent of the Spirit Library which looks like India's Taj Mahal which weighs 2.5 trillion kilos one kilo is 2.2 pounds, she would be able to assured more then enough force to escape sand Burial. so crushing her with sand is off the table.

I think anyone who is a fan of both shows would see that this is bullshit and you guys really short changed Gaara.
1. Speed- as mention in the video Gaara's sand can move at near the speed of sound. What they failed to notice is that sand can move faster than a C4 explosion at point blank range proven when he protected his village from Deidara's attack. Not only has Toph never shown anywhere near this speed she has never even seen anything this fast. I believe it was Rock Lee who said something along the lines of "it doesn't matter if you can see the attack coming if you are not fast enough to react to it".
2. Power- Gaara can use his sand to crush tempered steal as shown in his fight against Kimimaro. While Toph can bend metal directly (kind of) she has never bent rock or sand with enough force to crack steal.
3. Armor of sand- yes the armor of sand requires more chakra to maintain which is why he doesn't keep it up all the time. To suggest that he does and that he was worn out from using it is ridiculous.
4. Gold dust and metal bending- yes gold ore would have such impurities but Gaara was using gold dust. Gold dust wouldn't have the same impurities as gold ore because it would be refined and ground into a fine powder removing most impurities. I find it hard to believe that Toph could easily use it to her advantage.
5. Sand funeral- This relates to the issues of power mentioned earlier. Gaara's sand funeral has enough force to to crack tempered steal. What defense does Toph have that could resist this? The only metal she would have access to would be the (supposedly) gold ore in Gaara's sand and maybe some iron minerals in the ground, but remember that this is iron and gold in the form of sand and dust. Sure she can make sand into rock but when has she ever made iron ore into a solid sheet of iron (as depicted in your video) and even assuming she could do this, an armor made from raw iron ore would never be as strong as tempered steal so again how is it that Toph survived the sand funeral?
6. Defense- Even assuming that Toph was able to get around all of Gaara's attacks she still does not possess the speed or power to get by his defenses. Rock Lee had to break the sound barrier to get around Gaara's sand and even then a split second laps in judgement gave Gaara enough time to use a substitution technique. Toph's attacks aren't nearly that fast. There is nothing that Toph can throw at Gaara that could pierce his defenses.
Almost forgot my last two points.
7. Absolute Defense- Toph would never be able to get that close to Gaara (like she did when she killed him) because of his absolute defense. Remember it blocks every attack regardless of his will, regardless of weather or not he notices the attack himself, and regardless of him even being conscious. It's complete bullshit that you have Toph sneak up behind Gaara and kill him without ever explaining who she get's past his absolute defense.
8. The one tailed beast- Near the end of the series Gaara gets the one tailed beast back and fights along with it. If you are going to mention obscure things from DVD extras and give young Toph all the powers of old Toph I would expect you to at least Gaara all the powers that he should have.
My conclusion is that you guys did shitty or just lazy research and didn't bother to note all of Gaara's powers. What happened to the days when you would calculate the force and speed of an attack?
TMFlesh Yes to all of this. Think you should also mention that bending the gold is pointless because gold is so malleable that using it for armor would be pointless. And even if Toph could turn the sand in her immediate area to rock to block an attack like the sand burial Gaara would just crush it along with her since he can literally crush steel. And lastly, if the sand armor uses so much chakra how exactly is Toph taking control of it to use against him? Surely with so much of his energy present in the armor he would have more "dominion" over it. And finally... seismic sense working in the air... you guys literally read out how it works in the video.... its not magic, its literal vibrations in the ground so unless Toph can somehow bend air its completely implausible that she would be able to sense objects in the air. But seriously... I dont know why I expect anything different from Death Battle, since anime characters never win on it.

For her seismic sense on airborn earth, even though it's not well explained how it works I would give them the benefit of the doubt for two reasons. First the people who created her character said she could do it and second she has done it in the Avatar series boy dodging and deflecting rocks that were thrown at her. Shouldnt this be more so down to endurance and whether or not one of them could take control of material from the other? Either could defend against the other indefinitely and honestly toph isnt capable of moving quick enough to slip by garas ultimate defense so if she couldnt take it over shed just lose. Plus gara has non sand based jutsus so hed just need a single opening which, come on there will be lots. Its not that toph couldnt win its just that unless she could take control of garas sand from him which, kinda doubt it given hes using a more dorect link in his chakra and is physically stronger, shes super duper dead.

Levels of stamina? Garaa is basically superhuman while Toph is just a human. He undergoes superhuman levels of training throughout the entire anime.
Yes he needs chakra to move sand, but that's makes his sand control that much stronger and gives him an edge over Toph.
She may very well be able to control all those forms of earth. But we aren't talking about the quantity in which she can control but the quality. Not only does Garaa have more experience with bending sand but he can bend it on a larger scale.
If this all came down to a tug a war then Garaa wins hands down.

Guardian Frog yes they bring up that she struggles in sand and ignores bringing up that she got over it
She can hear it raise, and judge where it is when she sees missing holes in the ground.
Probably not an issue for a fight like this. She has trouble using her seismic sense with sand, but can probably detect the material itself if it’s being sent at her like a projectile.

I mean its quite literally what she done when a meteor was approaching, she sensed rock before it reached the ground.
When this vid came out I never watched naruto or avatar I watched naruto first and thought damn toph must be op af then a couple years later watch avatar and no just no Gaara would solo everyone in the show
