- "You have to be a killer"
UPDATE 11/13/20: Hi all, thanks so much for the amazing feedback on this video! Just wanted to let everyone know I've added captions to it, you can find them under English, not the auto generated one. Thanks again :)
Just had to pay tribute to one of the best character arcs I've seen in a long time. It can't be overstated how incredible Jeremy Strong is in this role.
This is nearly 6 minutes and yet I feel like I just scratched the surface of Kendall. This ended up being a lot about his relationship with Logan (which is a huge part of his character in essence). I just hope everyone will watch this show and make some edits because it's so brilliant and worthy of all the praise it gets. - Кино
At the start, Kendall felt like the most emotionless, most poser-ish person amongst the Roy children. But as the show went on, it became clear that he had the most heart and was the most misunderstood. He's just the dude who's trying his best most of the time. The other children might be wittier or slyer, but Kendall has the strength and heart to truly be a successor to Logan.
And actually, it was Roman back in season 1 who told him, 'If you want Dad to respect you, you have to be a killer."
In love with Him... Amazing performance ❤️
Poser-ish as in?
@@Nishatdevilzhere trying to be his father
Whatever LOL! His character was a still born, silver spooner LMAO!
Man the way Ken jumps to Roman's defence when Logan slaps him always gets me. Underneath all of that douchery is someone who still loves his siblings, regardless of how horrible they can be to him
How he also defends Shiv after Logan called her a coward.
@@pabliiiboiii which szn is this
He doesn’t put up with somethings Logan does slapping people is one of them
Also, that scene was improvised.
And in the end he tries to do the same to his siblings. Tries!
The stuttering that Kendall displays around his father in the beginning of Season 2 is painful to watch.
BUT in that last scene in the finale, his voice is calm, collected and clear. Beautiful!
Don't forget how he looked directly through the camera at Logan. Cold blooded killer
One of the best characters ever made for TV or film. He's the most human.
one of the best protagonists in tv history
@@stb313 i agree with most, but ken is the main character, not morally right, but he is the protagonist
Logan: You have to be a killer
Kendal: This is the day his reign ends
Logan: :):):)...
My favorite thing with Kendall is his vulnerability, he is truly realistic and we can feel each of his feelings
We can feel when he is sad or when he is confident..
Great character analysis on Kendall Roy.
Kendall is a tragic, troubled character. I've rooted for his independence from his father. After so much turmoil, it seems Kendall may finally be on the verge of achieving it. I wonder what awaits him in Season 3.
Jeremy said in an interview (can't remember which one right now) that when he walked into the writers' room once, he saw this question written largely on a board: can one escape family? I think that's where his arc is headed (and frankly, I think that's where the Roy kids are headed too). I want nothing but escape from the Roy legacy for these children
@@shreyanarayanan7834 I think that's why he did the deal with Furness and insisted getting named as CEO. He wanted to escape it all and handover the company to an outsider when the time comes. He doesn't care much about the Roy legacy and has a broken marriage and complicated relationship with his own kids.
@@shreyanarayanan7834 I think it's an out for Siobhan as well; the look she gave her father when Kendall said "I've got documents to prove he knew exactly what was going on" etc. was pure shock. She gave up her chance to be CEO to save Tom's a** and now there's her brother on TV saying he's got proof her dad was neck deep in coverups.
@@kimberlyklaus7296 yes! I truly believe that the ending that is most realistic but also the ending the children deserve is for them to finally escape their family and Waystar. Tbh I don’t see Waystar existing in the end, probably sold off to private equity or something, but I think this will be a mew beginning for the Roy children
Hooo boy
Kendall Roy is what you get when you mix Christopher Moltisanti with Jesse Pinkman and a little Wall Street, except he's going to get his redemption, and he is the core of this show. Give Jeremy Strong his Emmy.
Edit: He got his Emmy :)
Perfect analogy!
I haven't seen TS but surely I think about Jesse every time I see Kendall's vulnerability, too
agreed. even has a little bojack in him
Definitely isn't getting redemption. He's gonna fuck everyone to get to the top. It's always been what was gonna happen, he'll finally be Logan's killer
This video especially reminds me of the old tribute videos exploring Walter and Jesse's relationship. The way Logan and Walt manipulate and jerk them both around while they try to resist it and become better people. I love videos like this. They're almost like sparknotes for TV shows lol
YES TO EVERY ONE OF THOSE SIX MINUTES
Team Kendall.
Always ✨💪
this is GORGEOUS!!!!! truly an incredible character analysis that brought me to tears.
So you're saying... this actually is for tears?
Kendall is up there with the greatest TV characters ever.
Kendall is the most real character I've seen in all my life
I got goosebumps the first time I heard Rhea said "It's you. I'm telling you now, it's always been you." I know it was meant to be manipulative but it felt like major foreshadowing.
kendall roy is my number one boy
This was a perfect character analysis, desperately need an updated version with season 3 scenes.
Every time I want to relive Kendall's character I watch this video.
Started the show yesterday, already on s2. I love Kendall. There are moments when he's a total shit, but he's still far and away the most sympathetic character. Underneath the douchery, he's kind and vulnerable. The show deliberately makes you root for him. Everyone raves about Kieran Culkin, but Jeremy Strong is a FAR more nuanced actor.
Just by watching Culkin's interviews, you get the sense Kieran is pretty unlikely to sympathise with you irl.
Roman is funny and witty, but there isn’t depth and nuance to Kieran’s portrayal the way there is to Kendall. Roman is given some of the best lines, so it’s a fun role to play. Kendall had to run all ranges of emotion from S1 through end of S2. It was heartbreaking to watch mid S2 when he was so traumatized that he became a cyborg. Anyone who knows trauma and CPTSD would know how accurate that all was. He did an amazing job with it.
Nothing against Kieran because I think he's playing the character of Roman really well, but the standout is really Kendall. The show is supposed to be about these three siblings jockeying for power but the only one I'm rooting for is Kendall. I never find myself truly sympathizing with the others. Kendall just has such nuance
Kendal has become one of my favorite characters, of any series. He is someone so complex that it is very difficult to simply say that he is a good person or a bad person. On the other hand, the relationship with his father is something so convoluted. Sometimes I really liked seeing them together, as father and son, but then they both betray and kill each other.
He never recovered from the death of that boy.
Because he’s a good person who made mistakes. He’s not a killer. He cares about others even when he betrayed his family, he regretted unlike his family who never regretted betraying him all the time. He’s the only one in the family whose is a good person whose deeply flawed
Leave it to you to make a deeply critical analysis of a tv character and at the same a beautifully smooth visual piece. Phenomenal.
This is a MASTERPIECE
Kendall Roy is unleashed! My favorite character by far. Can´t wait for s3.
You have no idea how much i am waiting for the final edit after the show ends
Ken reminds me of bojack horseman at some points, and Logan is a bit like his mom was to him as a kid. Idk it’s a long shot but there’s a similarity
I think Kendall's voice is simillar to Bojack's :D
Nice analogy
Great analogy. And he sort of "dies" at the end, like Bojack, except with Kendall, his dad sacrificed him when he was not even guilty of the crime. And now, he's making a comeback as his own man.
Whoaaaaa
Hope you make an updated version of this masterpiece.
Bump.
Fantastic job, but why no clip of when his mum abandoned him, surely a character-defining moment. Not a criticism, just interested on your take.
Thanks! And sadly I had that in there originally but had to cut it. Always appreciate when people notice the details though!!
I’m so glad she did abandon him. The peril of a Narcissistic parent is that you can never trust them and can never truly be vulnerable with them. Any secrets you share will be used against you later. I’m so glad she did her NPD thing and didn’t give him the chance.
“Did you ever think I could do it” along with that music in the beginning, it’s just amazing. I’ve been watching this incredible tribute/analysis for like an entire day now, holy shit.
kendall roy i miss you i’m missing you right now you’re my number one boy
This is should be uploaded from official HBO channel.
Dude. This is good. This is so good. I've not seen anything like this. Phenomenal. You've done the show and the character justice.
One of the most stunning videos I have ever seen, perfect character portrayal, 10/10.
its incredible that this is also the *funniest* show on TV right now
I couldn't agree with you more about Jeremy Strong's acting in this role. Riveting, and your video is beautifully done.
end of the season was epic! thank you for making this truly amazing and deep tribute. i so love kendall. well, and this show deserve more recognition!
You did a wonderful job with this video describing one of my most interesting & favorite characters across all media (film, tv, games, books etc..) , of all time, the wonderful world of a character that is Kendall Roy.
Thank You
I just binge the series and I love this so much !
Kendall is the most miss understood character and that he really is alone. Yes he has family but they are all corrupt for the way they were raised!
I hope he gets all the love her deserves!
(along with greg because greg is a smartie)
I agree. All his family ever did was betray him and when he did it back because he was conditioned to believe that he’s the only one who won’t betray him.
This tribute is so good it touches me so much. It's like a short movie right here wow.
And the number of times the Roy siblings ask each other "Are you okay?" always makes me think had they not been so obsessed with Logan and the family's work, they could have been very different people, or even happy people, and care for each other without having to throw all the terrible swearing to hide behind. We see Kendall's side of the story more so we root for him (though still very aware that he makes mistakes and sometimes he is also terrible), but at this point of the show, I hope they'll all find a way out. Watching awful people fighting is fun but still, there's hope for the characters' redemption
how this vid is 6 min long but feels like 1min, I need more. Ken is such a brilliant and well written character and I feel like we will even be more pleased with his character development. you did so good, as always
I havent seen one bit of this show but this character Kendall seems fucking fascinating
Watch it! It takes a long time to get going, but settles in and starts moving by episode 5 in season 1. In episode 10 there is a reversal which will make you jump. King Lear meets Oedipus Rex meets Freud meets the Murdoch and Trump families. Season 2 is even better, because by now you are invested in Kendall's story. In episode 4 something starts happening to Kendall which makes your heart stop. Episode 5 is worse, and episode 7 is worse again. In episode 10 there is another reversal. At this point, waiting for season 3, you have to go back to the beginning and see all the episodes again, to understand the back story and note all the pointers you missed first time round. If you start this series then you are in it for the long haul, believe me.
(Edit) I should also say that Jeremy Strong turns in the performance of a lifetime. You forget you are watching television, and isn't that the best you can possibly say about an actor? He disappears into the part.
Such a beautiful video. Kendall has to be one of the most interesting characters in Tv in recent memory. Also love the way you edited this. Good job!
I watch this multiple times a day, I'm obsessed. Please upload an extended version of this after season 3, the pool scene could change everything. Thank you so much for this fantastic edit.
I quit on this show after Season 1, but this vid made me give it a second chance back then. Thank you.
the most complex charachter in a show full of rubix cubes
This is one of the most incredible pieces I have seen
The last episode... I cried.... My heart out.... He is in deed a good guy!
Amazing work, thanks! Kendall Roy is one of the best TV characters ever created
The best fan video for any show ever hands down
What a beautiful portrait of such a complex character.
this is literally the best kendall roy video ever
Alright, SO, that was a VERY good montage. Very well made, pertinent, you clearly got the character. A lot of great editing ideas, love 4:16 to 4:26 for instance (that must have been a lot of work). I just wish you would have edited it on Britell's magnificent music. It would have made it even better.
I love, love, LOVE your video. It perfectly captures Kendall as a character. I always thought he was the most human Roy who could do so much better if he left his father and Waystar behind him. It seems that at the end of season 2 he finally came to the realization his dad will never treat him in a loving manner and that both his father and his company are completely rotten.
just wanna say, that’s the one of the most beautiful video dedicated to the character on youtube, really. i can watch it one repeat like forever
You really outdid yourself with this. It's absolutely perfect. I love this show and JEREMY is next level. He is SO talented and brings so much to the table when it comes to Kendall!! I love this, i hope you will keep vidding this show!
this video is insane. undoubtedly best succession/kendall roy video on youtube. you are incredible. it even has 3 acts like a movie. congrats you are so talented
i'm finally here
2:25 - 2:35???? visual art!!! anxiety in art form!!!!
god the sibling Roy moments, gut me it would hurt less
"NRPI. No real person involved" and showing the immense guilt and helplessness in that guilt that he feels UGH
ending with that kiss YES, fucking poetic cinema
I cant believe this is over 5 minutes long, I felt that time go so quick, this is just, the best character analysis of Kendall ever, I can't imagine any other video topping this and I don't want to try to find that anyway.
I just ... your editing is what i asipre to (and fail to reach) because it's all about the emotions but also about the beauty in simplistic editing, letting the actual media itself do the talking and using your talents as an editor to highlight the moments that make YOU feel the most (and thereby making US feel them as well).
TL:dr the talent JUMPED OUT
it's 11:48 PM right now, and this video just made me ugly cry. you know the kind where your throat muscles fight each other to prevent you from wailing out loud? yeah, that kind. i've always had a troubled relationship with my father and watching the exact same dynamic being portrayed is both triggering and cathartic. this is the best succession edit on the site. you fully captured kendall's spirit and his tortured psyche. thank you for this gift, hurleybird. this one's going straight to my favorites playlist! :-)
Just now watching your video.. masterfully done. I hope you will do another Kendall edit now that season 3 has aired! Hope to see more. xx
What an amazing edit, thank you so much for putting it together!
One of the greatest characters in history of television.
This was incredibly done and edited. Gave me chills!
i wish i could tell you how much this moved me. it was so masterfully done and i cried through every minute of it
This deserves so much more attention! This is so well done, I'm in awe! Thank you for sharing, I love the analysis of his character here, it's so well done!
i keep coming back to this video because it's just so good :') wonderfully edited!!
This was beautiful. You caught so many moments that I had not caught on in the first time watching it.
This is absolutely outstanding. Great edit!
Wow, this made me in tears, this is very beautiful. Thank you for making this.
The best edit that i have ever watched. Thank you 🙏🏻
Every time i want to rememver how great this show was, i watch your video. Great job
That was brilliant and so well done! You have just told Kendall’s story perfectly.
Thanks for this. It really captures the wonderful dynamic these two characters have. Great job!!!
This is so beautifully edited thank you so much for making this and sharing it on here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This video convinced me to watch the show and now it's one of my all time favourites.
Man, this is a masterpiece ❤️ Can’t wait for S3!
Just finished the S2 and still in awe! Wanna watch your video but seems like I can't 'cause I still need to process what I just watched..
This looks like a good job you did buddy! Will watch it thoroughly soon
Best edit of Succession so far. Thank you
Congrats to Jeremy on the Emmy win!
This is truly a brilliant and poetic compilation. Kendall's story is strung together beautifully, in the perfect tone. Award-worthy editing that does justice to this deep and complex character. Thank you!
It’s the best video that I ever seen about succession!!🤤
Awesome
Please, keep doing this😭
this is so beautiful! I think kendall is by far the only character that i kind of relate to. props to you for making such a neat and beautiful character study.
I love this!!!! EMMYs totally deserved❤️
Great video, sums up Kendall's character progression through two seasons.
Best succession edit! Would love to see more videos of other characters in the show
incredibly well-done and beautiful character study of Kendall!
This is so well-edited. Really like it when you latched all the shots of Kenny's back from different episodes. Well Done!!
I cried so much wtf I love him so much I want to hug him so deeply 💔
Wow!!! Great video! Ugh, Kendall Roy is such a tragic, multilayered character and I think you captured that wonderfully. This video also brings out the brilliance of Jeremy Strong. I can’t wait to see where he takes the character in S3. Again, great video! 👏🏼
LOVE it!! I'm working on my second Succession video right now and hope you keep making more more more. We need more Succession videos. The show just has SO MUCH to cover. Brilliant look at Kendall and Logan. x
this is incredible. i've been waiting for someone to do a fanvid for kendall especially because ia, his easily one of the best character arcs i've had the pleasure of watching this year and the work jeremy strong is doing is unparalleled. you captured everything i love about his arc especially in season 2. you are so incredibly talented!
Well done. Thanks for putting this piece together. There are so many riveting scenes, it must’ve been hard to edit it down to 6 minutes. The time flew by. Jeremy Strong is such a dedicated actor.
Awesome video! We've got plenty of these style of vids for Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad (which I enjoy, of course), but we definitely need some more Succession tributes. This is definitely the best show on TV right now. Great job!
Beautiful edit. Some of the match cuts were incredible. Especially the ones of Kendall’s hands
i love this show it is truly one of the best tv series ever. what i want most for the next seasons is to dig deeper into the characters childhoods and traumas. i can't wait for 3rd season
This was a great edit. Great job!
My god! This is an outstanding edit on Kendall's character.
The length and hard work on this is unbelievable.
incredible
Now with season 3 getting teased today, I can't wait to see what Kendall is going to do.
Awesome video. I just want to give Kendall a big hug!
This is incredible I swear to god it's not just leeching off the talent of the writers and actors it creates something greater than the sum of its parts (the short clips and the music) and creates something that makes my life a little bit better. Also it reveals dimensions of the show I didn't even know existed after 3 re-watches and creates new ones that can't be found if you just watch the show. It's art. Season 2 Kendall was much more interesting than season 1 but it's hard to fully get into the mind-state he's in without viewing it in an amazing edit like this, he appears fine because appearing fine is a survival instinct for him, and he does it very well. Overall I think he's a bad person but this sort of dynamic (Father in love with the broken version of his son or daughter) is not really played out in movies and TV and is a very real part of the human condition, if anyone has recommendations of other art that explores that let me know
