They are more like an enhanced FBI SWAT team than the HRT. The JTF2 would be HRT as they have a national mandate and they are the best in hostage rescue.
@@keirboyko Please expand. If there is a significant domestic terrorist incident in Canada and the US, then the JTF2 and HRT respectively would respond. For other lesser situations, the ERT would be handling them in Canada.
The RCMP provides policing services under contract to all provinces and territories, except Quebec and Ontario. The are also our Federal Police force that protects Canada, its people and interests against the greatest domestic and international criminal threats. They also protect Canada from threats like espionage and foreign influence, as well as serious and organized crime. So in that sense they are like you CIA, FBI, ATF, and Secret Service (they protect our federal government leaders). RCMP has existed since 1873, but they are not Canada's oldest police force; Newfoundland has the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary - established in 1729 and Quebec has Surete du Quebec - established in 1820. The Ontario Provincial Police force is one of North America's largest police forces with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,600 civilians and 600 Auxiliary officers, established in 1909. Alberta has Sheriffs who patrol certain highways and provide legislature and law court security, prisoner transport, investigate property-related complaints, conduct commercial vehicle inspections and fish and wildlife law enforcement. They are the largest sheriffs force in Canada. Every province and territory in Canada operates a sheriffs service, but they are almost exclusively concerned with court room security and prisoner transport.
I think you mistook what he said when he said nobody else gets hurt. There are situations where someone is already hurt. They don't want anyone to get hurt. They are aware that yes they may need to do someone damage but it is best if they don't need to. This doesn't mean tbey won't if necessary.
Lol everyone watching this should Google Portapique Nova Scotia shooting and read and watch video about how the RCMP handled that situation or how they handled a shooter in Moncton. Less than stellar and very poorly trained.
I don't know about today, but it was traditional for RCMP members to migrate to the Canadian Army in times of war. Numerous Mounties became cavalry in the 2nd Boer War, and served in the trenches in WWI. RCMP were used for maintaining peace & quiet behind the front amongst the Boer civilians also.
I am quite ignorant about home defense units like this but, is it like the military oriented police in the us ? Or is it like the our G.I.S. Counter terrorism units here in italy ?
No, the RCMP is the federal law enforcement in Canada. They have so many wide range of responsibilities, they do municipal policing, provincial policing, provincial highway enforcement and federal policing. They also conduct criminal investigations at the federal level and investigate counterfeit crimes too. And they are also tasked with protecting VIPs as well. Consider them as a municipal police force, state police force, FBI, Secret Service and US Marshals all in one. The ERT team has the capability to act as a counter terrorism unit but at the same time also acts as regular regional SWAT team for the places where the RCMP has a mandate/contract to provide policing at the municipal/provincial level
Not all RCMP ERTs in each province are brave; mass shooting in Nova Scotia April 18-19th, 2020 by Gabriel Wortman, dressed as an RCMP officer who shot and killed 22 people over 13 hours while he completely eluded all law enforcement. ERT refused to exit their bullet proof vehicle to attempt to assist potential survivors or children on the line with 911 dispatcher for several hours… no information was shared with local police departments in neighboring towns by RCMP, which would’ve greatly hampered the shooter’s efforts…..
Fellow Canadian here, I second that.... those guys did just like the cops did in the school shooting some months ago.. they stood by and let the killer kill while they chilled.
Another fellow canadian. I fully agree. They train and train and train but sometimes training doesn't help. The only thing that prepares you for war is war
Horseshit. None of that is true. You idiots need to actually read the MCC and the timeline, don’t believe the media reporting. And it was a dog man and assaulter that caught and shot Wortman.
The Toronto ERT swat team has by far way better gear. A lot higher funding. Most of Canada's city police and ERT / swat teams have higher standards and procedures backed by training and equipment. The RCMP is like kinda Canadas federal police as you said. They mainly only work in smaller communities across Canada and have to move I believe every so many years because of that fact, being in smaller companies bonds are maintained and it lessens possible chances for corruption often Common in remote northern areas and smaller communities. While all our cities have their own much better equipped gear, funding and training wise including medics negotiators, phycologits slash sniper negotiators, breacher divisions, tanks etc. Most major city police services are highly equipped and better trained by comparison to the RCMP and RCMP ERT teams in fact RCMP ERT teams only just received RCMP ERT medics and sniper/negotiators while most other every city police have had this for close to 30 years now. The training is longer as well for city swAt and ERT teams. Check out the Toronto police ERT swat team video. Great stuff all gear shown and explained. RUclips won't let me post the link below but I'd you search that tiul see a couple great videos. You can also do the same for every other city ERT police service in Canada just switch up the city's name and you'll have a good idea of the difference between all.
The way I explain the ERT (and this is a simplification) is that instead of having every city, county, or department having to create and train their own special teams, Canada just kicks it up to the federal level and lets them pay for it. The RCMP then funds and trains everyone by the same standards and sets up ERT groups in all the major cities. One unit, lots of locations. There was a Canadian police drama called Flashpoint (2008-2012) which focused on a fictional equivalent of the Toronto branch of the ERT.
For those that don't know, the ERT is basically Canada's version of an American SWAT team. The RCMP is a federal police force, they are stationed throughout the country, however they're generally located in rural towns and communities or suburbs, kind of like a county sheriffs department. In the major cities such as Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, they all have their own municipal police deparments.

Ya as a father of a member of the R.C.M.P. this crew and others across Canada are not to be scoffed at,,,when they show up the fun's over...just come out with your hands up....they are the operators for the R.C.M.P...and dont have much of a sense of humor....
Hamilton Ontario 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🥅🏒
The RCMP acts both like the FBI and like sheriffs in rural counties that lack city police (given that the province doesn't have a provincial police force)
The other name that us Canadians refer to the RCMP as is Gestapo, and in recent years the Praetorian guard since they refuse to charge Justin Trudeau for any of the crimes he has committed
This was a pretty intense ERT callout from 1995. It has some shooting, explosions, helicopters:

There is some shooting, explosions, aircraft, APCs.
That’s federal money right there, they are getting a new building in my small town, $20 million to build.
They are more like an enhanced FBI SWAT team than the HRT. The JTF2 would be HRT as they have a national mandate and they are the best in hostage rescue.
Wrong in so many ways, stephen. JTF 2 is nothing that resembles an HRT, ERT also resembles nothing that of the FBI SWAT.
@@keirboyko Please expand. If there is a significant domestic terrorist incident in Canada and the US, then the JTF2 and HRT respectively would respond. For other lesser situations, the ERT would be handling them in Canada.
I love when you review canadian shit ❤
Dude, our US drones have flashlights on them too, it just depends on the situation. They're training for the worst.
Kit looks better than our military's lmao
It's the same
I think you mistook what he said when he said nobody else gets hurt.
Canada bro 😂🙋🕵️🕺👍👍👍👍
I don't know about today, but it was traditional for RCMP members to migrate to the Canadian Army in times of war. Numerous Mounties became cavalry in the 2nd Boer War, and served in the trenches in WWI. RCMP were used for maintaining peace & quiet behind the front amongst the Boer civilians also.
These are the guys coming for your unsurrendered banned firearms next year 😮
the drone is specially made
The 🇨🇦 Version of TRUDOLPH'S SS Gestapo
RCMP that failed to INVESTIGATE the corrupt treasonous government!!!!!
The RCMP is classified as a Para-military force.
Check out the Canadian military snipers ,Three world record long distance kills in Afghanistan and Iraq ,
Canada the true best of the best. There is a reason why Canada is the last to any war or conflict that happened.
Yeah - it was their 'finest hour' ... sad cluster f'd organization. (and yeah, I'm Canadian.)
Horseshit. None of that is true. You idiots need to actually read the MCC and the timeline, don’t believe the media reporting. And it was a dog man and assaulter that caught and shot Wortman.
It’s an exception but exceptions need to be known. Good on you for calling that out.

RCMP GRC. Gendarmarie royal du Canada.
I'm on the fence if I wanna try out for ERT or not x.x Not sure I wanna suffer though the heights again 😅
The RCMP has become a joke and should be disbanded
Legalized corruption
This is what they do when they find out that someone has an above regulation sharpness pair of scissors.
google deep non line of sight🤔
The way I explain the ERT (and this is a simplification) is that instead of having every city, county, or department having to create and train their own special teams, Canada just kicks it up to the federal level and lets them pay for it. The RCMP then funds and trains everyone by the same standards and sets up ERT groups in all the major cities. One unit, lots of locations.
There was a Canadian police drama called Flashpoint (2008-2012) which focused on a fictional equivalent of the Toronto branch of the ERT.
🇨🇦
For those that don't know, the ERT is basically Canada's version of an American SWAT team. The RCMP is a federal police force, they are stationed throughout the country, however they're generally located in rural towns and communities or suburbs, kind of like a county sheriffs department. In the major cities such as Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, they all have their own municipal police deparments.
They are so much more than a SWAT team
