  • 'African Policy Heroes Unveiled: Young African Leaders Share Their Inspirational Stories' explores the dynamic world of leadership within various policy fields across the African continent.
Hosted by a Apiwe Hotele, fellow at the Young African Leaders Programme (YALP) of the Florence School of Transnational Governance, the series sheds light on the challenges and solutions faced by aspiring leaders in Africa starting from an encounter with their personal hero or heroine, that is, the person who has inspired them personally and professionally and guided them on their career path.
Leah Tesfamariam from Kenya works in international development, focusing on gender equality, human rights, and governance. She proudly identifies as a feminist, drawing on her mother’s struggles in a patriarchal society.
In her conversation with Apiwe Hotele, Leah explains that feminism is fundamentally about choice and women's control over their own lives. She also discusses the complexities leadership in today's world, where interconnected problems demand leaders with transversal skills who can lead with vision and vulnerability.
Finally, Leah emphasises the great influence of the Young African Leaders Programme and the inspiration she drew from her exposure to prominent African leaders in international roles along with the interactions with her peers.
