I really don't know too much about the Lightning, but I'm an airplane guy from way back, and I've heard some stories. I like the looks of it. I want to know when the "ole Bird" will be back in the air.

Unfortunately never. This particular aircraft has no fatigue life left. Even if it had the CAA will never let it fly again in UK.

@@XR724LightningF6 Wow! That is unfortunate. I can rather understand the logic of that though. If you're flyin' along and something goes ugly, ya can't just pull over to the side and "fix" it at altitude. But the ole bird does look pretty good just standing there. AND, I'm sure there is a bunch of stories that could be told about the "Glory Days", when life was good, and flyin' was free of problems.

@@mikeguthrie5432 A lot of us on the team are ex-Lightning Engineers and love what we do. There are no Lightnings flying at this time but that may change in 2025/6 but again not in UK unfortunately

@@XR724LightningF6 Well Sir, I;m over here in Arizona, and there is a great Air Force and civilian museum at the Davis-Monthan Airbase here. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to "peruse" a "Lightning" down here. And thanks for the info. Also, as an aside, I was in the U.S.Air Force back in the '60s, and I was a ground crew member with the Sac base there, I piddled around on B-52Ds and "F"s and also KC-!35s back then. When I got out, I ultimately went to work for United Airlines at the Maintenance Center In South San Francisco, as a "sheetmetal/structural repair mechanic. Worked for them for about 12 years, on old DC-6Bs, CV-340s, DC-8s, B-727s (we called 'en "rectum rockets") Caravelles, and all the other Boeing stuff of the time. So I kinda have a place in my heart for older airmachines, including WWII and early 1950 planes, US and British and French planes.

It's such a shame the government can't/won't fund the restoration of our nation's historical aircraft. I saw a Nimrod being dismantled a few weeks back. Very sad!
As a matter of interest, what country might get a Lightning flying again?
