Words I repeat while Running + Pikes Peak Ascent Workout

  • Up we go for the last hard-hard workout in this condensed training block for the Pikes Peak Ascent. I am tapering, but that connects to volume, not yet to the intensity of the efforts. The intensity will reduce in the final 8 days of the training block. The Pikes Peak Ascent is two weeks away and today's workout and training session on the Peak went very well. And in this vlog I discuss some words that I repeat to myself over and over again while running a hard workout or a difficult race, like Pikes Peak. Stay tuned for more words and sayings that I repeat to myself while running. Onward and upward!

Before that though, Seth, you’re going to have to learn more about gear accountability. 😆. Started with the Vomero 14s. Thought the lesson was learned then. 😇 What we call it in the military, at least the Navy/Marines is gear adrift. “Gear adrift, is a gift.” 😂

I do that. If I’m going up a hill, I say to myself, “ up, up, up,up,up,up,up. It’s something they say and repeat to you during cross country skiing races. I also say, “ never give up, never ever, never ever, ever, give up.” It was a phrase our cross country running coach just ingrained in our heads to repeat to ourselves.

Could’ve been a dog sniffed it out and carried it off. Happened to me once with a jug of orange juice buried in a snow bank at Mt Saint Helens. Coming in off the run looking sooo forward to that cold o.j. and when I got to the spot a hole was already dug in the snow, o.j. splashed all around, and the empty carton full of bite holes laid about 15 feet away in the parking lot.

What a shame someone stole your gear up on the Mt - QOD Mantras are a great thing for sure probably the things I say the most are "Smooth and Steady" when I am out on a longer run just thinking through the gait cycle making sure I keep things rolling (yeah thats probably another) The other one during speedwork is "Maintain Form, or Be strong" really important not to get too sloppy when doing speedwork - you want to go hard for sure but if your form starts breaking down it can be a serious issue for injury so whether its me or my athletes I am always preaching form

Do you have an thoughts or tips on running without music, I’ve been doing most of my runs over the summer alone and going longer as well. Listen to something tend to help me relax but i sometime feel it could be a negative experience as I’m not dealing with my body as a whole and attempting to feel connected. I don’t feel my breathing as much and running with friends or tempos, race situation seems to be a lot more painful.

Hey Seth! Any thoughts on the hoka challenger ATR 5? Or the Speedgoat 3?
Looking for shoes with more cushion, and less ground contact :) due to soreness in the ankle, under my foot and legs I want to try something New.

Perhaps look into setting up a Patreon account to help with the finances and I hope you let your bank know about the lost Debit card and all is okay.
I love your spirit and dedication to running Seth, keep on pushing
