    Thank you Derek! As a Puppy Raiser I am passing your video on to my group. Yes, even as a Raiser we too have to keep our dogs sharp. Here in FL. I was still able to take my boy places, just not inside stores. We walked outdoor malls and walked safely around construction sites that still had people and machines working. One day out of desperate training, I created a fake bird and hung it on thread and a stick for impulse control.😂 Trained him in the yard. Man did we laugh. Thanks again. I loved this video so much. Thank you again. God is good-all the time.

      Thanks for sharing my video! That is very kind. Sounds like you are becoming very creative in your training! Glad to know raisers like you are out there :)

    I'm glad to hear y'all are doing well. KOA is such a handsome boy. During this pandemic, my days are pretty similar to before other than being home more, lol. I walk our dog, listen to audiobooks, love to color in adult coloring books with the help of Patriot Viewpoint smart glasses. Be safe and have a wonderful week!

      That's so cool that you can use assertive tech to help you color. My wife loves to color. She says it relaxes her :) Thanks for sharing!

    Brita is a female yellow Labrador. 54 pounds, and 22 1/2 inches tall. Matt Taylor was our trainer, and the other instructors were Kate, Cody Joe, Diane Webster and our class supervisor Caroline Wilkins. It was a really really good class. There were fiveretrains, and one new handler. My best friend was also in class with me.

      Brita sounds like a sweet little girl! And I think that was my exact class! That is awesome! :)

    Most working dog teams are affected in a unique way during all of this! If not for me being the only grocery shopper in my family, my SDIT would be climbing the walls during all of this. Gemini definitely gets more excited than normal to get out of the house right now!

    I've only started walking around in the neighbourhood last week. Just the way lockdown/quarantine went for me for almost three months. I'm suseptible to picking up germs so have had to take care of my health in order to avoid getting sick as much as possible. I don't use a guide dog but it's great to get back to normal with my white cane! Now to keep up with the sanitising routines when I go out so I stay healthy!

    May you do some videos of top best things of having a guide dog, top difficult things of having a guide dog, other fun top videos, and story time videos please?
    Thank you!
    When COVID was new, I would listen to some audiobooks, watch some movies and shows and have family time.

    During the lockdown I’ve been thinking of how all of you folks who have guide dogs are handling the situation.
    Really good video and I think that a lot of these tips will come in handy for those who have a guide dog.
    Although now I want to see your dog eating out of the fireplace LOL.

      Thanks Juan! And, hopefully, I don't catch him eating out of the fireplace any time soon! lol...

    Sounds like you guys are doing great. We are doing basically the same thing, and it is working well. I just got home from Oregon on March 14, and we had exactly 5 days before we went into lockdown. We have been able to go a few places, and now the state of Texas is opening up, so we will be able to add more. Hope you guys are able to do that again soon. By the way, Cody Joe says hi. She was one of the trainers in my class.

      Hey Holly! Great to hear form you. What dog did you get in Oregon? Breed, name...you know! And Cody Jo was great! Was she with another trainer still? Glad to hear you guys are doing well despite the weird time we are in. Thanks for sharing!

    This was a very interesting video. I’m glad you guys are doing well. I in the early stages of applying for my first guide dog and I was wondering how handlers keep their dogs occupied during times like these. For my part, I’ve been reading, writing, going for walks, and bike riding to keep myself busy and then to be occupied.

    After this virus if you were thinking about getting a guide dog how long would you wait to apply? Heard some of the schools are planning on bringing the dog to the student to train.

    • @Dlw031510
      @Dlw031510 4 года назад

      Susan Green I’ve been approved after a two year application process. They are just waiting on the virus to settle down. They will be coming to me to train, but that’s how the school I’m using does it only (Fidelco guide dogs)

    • @LifeAfterSightLoss
      @LifeAfterSightLoss  4 года назад

      It really depends on the school and how they approach things. If you are planning on applying, I would say go ahead and start the process. It can take a while even without a pandemic. Best of luck!

    What does VIP stand for? It is sad that people who have guide dogs and service dogs that are not guide dogs are having to retire them way too early? Have you ever been denied access to a public place of business because of your guide dog?

    • @LifeAfterSightLoss
      @LifeAfterSightLoss  3 года назад +1

      VIP stands for Visually Impaired Person or People. And, I have never been denied access. There have been a few situations where someone has said something, but I always explain it is my guide dog and it is ok. A couple times the manager came over, but it always ended well.
