Why don’t you try epoxy with colloidal silica or glass beads. Both of these materials lower the weight dramatically over body fillers such as bondo, they are also structural entities.
Numrich had a bunch of project stocks that were all basically unusable as they were. I had to cut off much of the metal and use just the base stock. They are perfect for what I'm using them for but they were rough otherwise. Fortunately, fiberglass can be left in water longer than steel.
