Who am I? 🧐
Hey my name is Arnav, and I am 16 years old brown kid from Australia, who is starting a RUclips channel. I will try to share as many of my future experiences with my life whether that is with my school journey as I navigate my way through the momentous adventure of my last two years of High School, or with my external hobbies such as photography, cricket, and reading. loved to see a brown, high schooler in Australia for a change. I don't know about you guys but i was/am stressing for starting high school. It gave me a genuine feel of what o expect, especially since I'm taking public transports and stuff. Pretty sure you are in year 12 rn, wish u luck for ATAR! :)

I’m from America and tbh school is so different in the United States than it is in Australia, tbh I feel like Australian schools are more hands on and more lectures / learning, in American schools but basically just have to copy down boring notes from a Google slide and then work on lame assignments , I’m curious to know how it is in Australia, atleast no homework here tho, we have time to do it all in class so I’m in high school and get like no homework
From a regional private schooler we get shit tons of homework and our teachers just talk, like talk for the whole session.
I'm from the state of NSW (each state in Australia has a different education system) and we get a lot of homework that we have to do after school. Our vice principal mentioned we have to study 3-4 hours after school everyday if we want to do alright (which sucks). The content is challenging and is supposed to make us think outside the box, there are lot's of trick questions. Rote learning is definitely not part of the syllabus (especially the new 2019 one) even for subjects like Bio (which I took). But then again, every school is different. I went to a private school that does pretty well academically so this is just one perspective. I do know based on my NJ American cousins that our assignments are a bit more harder, and are marked harsher. We also don't re-do or re-visit content. For us, our homework is not part of the overall grade, it's 4 assignments and two sets of 5-8 exams. These exams aren't like the SAT which is MCQ, we actually have 3 marks, 4 marks, etc sort of questions. We also do 3 hours exams like you guys, though for every subject (so 5-8 exams overall generally depending on your subject). If you do some artsy subjects you do a major work, which is a lot more hands on than say history. But overall it's pretty academic.

@@lbell9695 honestly if the homework wasn’t graded I probably wouldn’t have even done it lol so kudos to you, mad respect for that, I probably would’ve just reviewed what we learned in class that day like a week before a test and then just not done homework and be chilling

@@arnavkadian2004 Yeah, it's surprising how many ways you can get into university. I completed a Certificate III in Information Technology and used it to get in.

For those who are watching this to get an understanding of the AVERAGE high schooler, this aint it.
Hey Arnav. Nice video.
I came across this video in search for an answer to my 5th grader son, who was asking how it works in high school, in terms of assignments, marks (is it percentage based or letter), how many assignments do you get, do grades of assignment add up to get your final score etc. I didn't have answer to those, as I didn't grow up here. So I think it would be useful for parents even to watch something informative like that. Also if you have any info from other states (ie we are in ACT).
Where I am in NSW you get four assignments (1 each term) that are percentage based and according to those marks you get a half yearly and yearly report with a letter grade. Yearly would be all the term assignment marks combined. A is 90% or above, I think B is 70% and above like so. I'd advise your son to stay very organised and has set times to do his work or it can become overwhelming at times.
yes thats one of the reasons I made my channel, my parents didn't know about the system here either so for us it was a lot of trial and error, but glad I can help families better prepare their kids

it is definitely a huge shift, and sadly racism is prevalent, but having a good support system around you helps a lot
