Damn.. You where here and I didnt know... thats a shame, because you lost about 99% of what Narvik really is, and most of what you "got" was wrong.. but seeing how arrogant you really are, maybe thats for the best..
I'm late to the show. Did not know that Brandon Mitchell who are doing a stellar job by putting light on Ukraine have been there. BUT he of all should have learned to know the role Narvik played in WWII, maybe the most important but way to unknown battlefields in the early parts of the war. The big sea battle and first defeat of the germans is seriously worth a mention. Maybe Narvik is way to lazy to focus on the importance it played.
You have to be there for two days to appreciate Narvik. In Lapland they take it easy. After two days, you've got the same leisurely pace as your surroundings. You can see for yourself, the bikes are unlocked. If you lose the bike, it is because someone who has been to the pub uses it as local transport. You will find it down in the valley, no one rides uphill.
Thanks for showing us Narvik..I love your travels Brandon, these are places I will never see. Your comments are always entertaining 😀 Enjoy you trip and take care 🌱
So, glad Brandon you are recovering from your trek. Narvik well it is a small Norwegian town. I have friends that moved from Venice Beach California to Kolbjornsvik Norway. They keep inviting me to come over and see them. Very tempted. Take care!
Wow. Warzone to " watching paint dry" zone. Like a trip to the reality library and picking out two titles from totally opposite genres. Nice to spend time in Norway with you. Or anywhere for that matter! Feels like we just left Toronto and Ottawa, and here we are all in the same day. Enjoying all the content you put out! Great job, and I'm looking forward to more fun and interesting adventures! 👍🏻 🫂🥰🖖💙💛🇺🇦
My Grandmothers Juanita Parker was friends with Man lets call him ' Fredrick ' he got caught by the Germans while working with the resistance in WW2, he got the Defense Medal 🏅 in the late 1980's from the King of Demark . I showed his photo Norwegian couple, they explained some things....
Im also a bit of a WW2 buff. In Harstad (about an hours drive from Narvik) the Germans put up 4 massive 406mm coastal artillery to protect the port of Narvik. The guns were originally intended for future German battleships. I remember crawling into it as a kid when i was on vacation.
That was a bit too exciting for me! Lol!😂Thanks for your video report from Narvik, Brandon. I knew an old guy (years ago), who fought at Narvik, WWII, an ex-guardsman, a very nice Irishman, he got wounded there, it was one hell of a battle, but he made it safely out. Slava Ukrajina!🇺🇦🔱
Personally (and being from Canada where WWII was not in our back garden) I find it hopeful to visit places in Europe that saw hard fighting during the war and are now peaceful, prosperous, and kind of boring. Munich was like that, there were still walls with bullet holes but otherwise shiny and beautiful and prosperous and slightly boring to live in. It would have been impossible for anyone of my father's generation to even imagined that of a place like Munich. It gives me hope for Ukraine. It also reminds me that freedom is not free, it requires constant vigilance. We thought that Hitler was the last monster to roam Europe, and now there is Putin. Too many people thought that "never again" was invitation to relax and let down our guard.
I can reccomend Normandy, it really is a beautiful old place with lots of history, also alot of Canadian history. Went there as a kid and probably going back next year. Cheers from Sweden!
I hope Putin will be the last monster. I'm afraid BRICS will expand and in the future will use by Russian to dominate against NATO and the former USSR countries. As Putin wants to reestablish a Russian empire and at the same time prevent a democratic encirclement around Russia. Glory to Ukraine.
You’re so entertaining when you’re in a boring Nordic country. I TrueType enjoyed being bore. As a business owner I was appalled at the lack of people in shops ….do they get free rent.

Narvik saw some really hard fighting between German Alpine troops and sailors on one side, and Brits, Poles and French Foreign Legion on the other. The sailors were survivors of HMS Warspite sailing into the fjord and sinking a lot of German destroyers. I can add that when on Long Range Recon Patrol, you do not use any perfumed soap, deodorant, etc., cause you will be noticeable by smell.
@@sidekickbob7227 true the Norwegians there were not keen to hand over the country to Hitler. I believe that the first casualties of Weserübung was on a Norwegian coastal defence ship encountered by the invasion force- possibly Eidsvoll, I forget.
@@PalleRasmussen You're half right. It was the "guard" ship, "Pol III" who shit warning shots towards the invading force. Hiya Brandon, greetings from Ch NZ. Congrats on completing your tough journey, I watched and enjoyed it all. Narvik has unique history as ironore shipped in UK and German ships from same port till German occupation. Hard, hard times for the citizens and the movie on NFlex a good history lesson so I was interested to see how it's been rebuilt. My son from NZ lives in Norway so another reason to enjoy the Swedish geography and compare. Lols to the knitters, im also one. Narvik and more southern Bodo have stunning ocean views with granite mountains jutting out of the waters. Very beautiful. Summer until end of September best time for tourists. Take train south from Narvik to Bodo and the further south to fjords like one to Andalsnes, really spectacular.
I live here, and as far as I know, you actually can't go from Narvik to Bodø by train, but have to take a bus to Fauske, and from there you can ride the train all the way to Oslo, or another place down south. But for some odd reason, as I believe the tracks go all the way, they're only used to transport goods, but not people. And like I said, you have to travel by bus about 4 and a half hours from Narvik to Fauske, if you're heading that way. So I think it's safe to say that this guy was not heading there, or in that direction. But I strongly encourage, if you know better than me, please enlighten me.
Very cool hike, I followed every video and loved it. You're sort of a weird dude Brandon, in a very good way. I don't have much but I will definitely support your efforts to help Ukrainian troops!
Be civil and respectful is your number 1 rule for comments. I accidentally stumbled upon this video, and became interested because I am often in conversation with tourists who visit Northern Norway. In that regard, I can assure you that Narvik is more of a Burger King milkshake. Rarely have I seen such a disrespectful description of a place based on a 24-hour stay. Maybe the whole post was meant to be humorous? I don't know, but luckily 95% of the tourists I meet are curious about how we live north of the Arctic Circle, and don't ridicule everything from product prices to our quiet and peaceful way of life.
I lived there for 20 years and got good laugh from this video 😂 As he said, it's nice, clean, and ... small. It's definitely not the most exciting place if you're just going to faff around the town square, and you could certainly do better than Joker and Burger King. The War Museum is well worth a visit, and for a taste of local food I'd recommend Fiskekroken. Hiking and downhill skiing are probably the best reasons to visit Narvik. The train ride to the Swedish border, with an optional return by foot, and boat from Rombaksbotn, is also nice. Generally the best things to do in Narvik is getting out of Narvik and to the surrounding areas. As a base for exploring the region it works very well.
So, in answer to your question about stuff being expensive. I saw the Hellmann's mayo for 49 crowns.... In Australia, the same size jar of Hellmann's mayo is $15 AUD (Australia), only by going to Costco can I get a jar twice the size for a little cheaper.
