The rush of excitement that filled me upon joining my first Overwatch match on PC was unparalleled. The, the fun, the synergy - it was pure, unfiltered enjoyment.
However, with each passing year, the facade began to crumble, revealing the harsh realities of Overwatch's development team. This was most prominently exposed with the release of Overwatch 2, an small update that I believe marked a low point in the franchise's history. After three long years of neglect, the decision to announce Overwatch 2's PvP mode felt like a letdown, dampening my previously high spirits.
Furthermore, the announcement of Overwatch 2's PvE mode left me with more questions than answers. It cast doubt on the existence of the much-touted, expansive PvE mode that had been promised. It led me to wonder whether this was all just a ploy - an elaborate scheme to build unwarranted hype for the game, with the ultimate aim of selling as many skins as possible.
In its essence, Overwatch was a game of enjoyment and fun, but recent developments have left me questioning the integrity of the developers and the future of this game.

if i do say, Blizzard has a trick. The immediate problems you see they see as but a test. stay strong and you will gain rescources for your empire!

Jokes on you, sir, but even TF2 got it's dedicated PvE update 😂
No i‘m not reading that
Because Battle Passes make more money

Then stop buying it
@@brodisnider4115 boy cotting will never happen bet there’s gonna be a group of people who still buy it like RUclipsrs and such. But if we can stop giving blizzard money it might slap them in the face and wake them up. To stop making stupid decisions
It didn't, hence why they discontinued work for what they advertised.
@@brodisnider4115 easier said than done we may have people who stop buying it but we still have people who do
They literally sacrificed a whole game for 3 years to make PvE possible and all of a sudden it's just "not possible to meet the expectations"??? They got millions (probably more) of dollars and the whole time in the world from their most dedicated fans and player base, then they said "we couldn't meet the expectations" and decided to ditch PvE?? Yeah, sure Blizzard
The company is worth 27 billion, that's 27 thousand millions. Somehow that wasn't enough.
The real issue that people aren't talking about (Because frankly most don't understand) is that the entire dev team has been swapped out over the last couple years. Even being able to read and understand someone's code that you've never worked on is a massive challenge, making changes to it without breaking everything and having to start from scratch is nearly impossible when none of the original devs still work there.
@@scotthuffman3462 Considering what it was like working within Blizzard team (sexual harassment scandal etc.) I'm not surprised many have left and now Blizzard is scrambling trying to make Overwatch 2 work with current small and mostly new devs.
@@scotthuffman3462 if that's the case then they should've already identified that the original vision isn't achievable, way before pvp OW2 came out. They could've told us, apologize, and go back making content OW1 desperately needs. But nope, they decided to milk all these hype just for that small color of green in their excel spreadsheet
@@scotthuffman3462 in addition, the newer devs won't be as experienced as the veteran ones that left so that's even more of an issue. frankly not an excuse to lie to the community for years but at this point i personally will have to uninstall overwatch because it's just not gonna be good. pve was the only reason i was keeping up with news but ig that's gone as well xd classic blizzard
The dream of grinding PVE to finally play as a lore accurate Reinhardt (due to the talent tree upgrades) is sadly over.
I wish Jeff was still here..when he left blizzard the soul of the game left with him.
Edit: I somehow created a massive wave of toxicity just by saying my opinion on things
Bro this is literally all jeffs fault yhe fuck do you MEAN
Pfp has power behind it i can feel it

Literal ignorance speaking
Jeff was so mad his failed MMO got turned into a pvp hero shooter he deliberately tore it down from its massive success to make the team conceptualize and work on pve content no one asked for and then left the company, leaving the shambles of the OW team to figure out what to do with it. Kaplan's insane entitlement at thinking his tiny (by AAA standards) team of 100 people who had little experience working on a PVE focused game design could make a whole MMO, and when that didnt work he STILL tried to get them to make a co op pve game anyway after the exact opposite of his vision was doing insane numbers for years already
His greed killed OW, jeff kaplan is responsoble for the OW1 drought and the absolute fucking failure that is OW2
Kaplan caus
Its more that, Jeff sniffed the bullshit coming, sexual harassment, false promises, he had to leave..
Its really heartbreaking. I played OW when it came out and was so excited to play after school. Over the years many people complained about many things. Things like bad hero balance, to little skins etc. I never really cared about any of that stuff I just enjoyed playing the game as is. Even when goats was meta I didn't really care that much. But as time went on the game kept getting more neglected, and you started to notice. And somewhere there was this promise of OW2 to come out at some point with a PVE system and fun things. That was like the only thing that kept me comming back. A lot of people in and out of the community made jokes about when OW2 was comming out and that it was a dying game. And during those times everyone went to the five stages of grief, I feel like. AND then finnaly OW2 came out, flats made a video with 'we are back'. And I was excited again, giving it one last chance, hoping for that big comeback and the long awaited PVE, sure we don't get the PVE immediatly but it should be comming soon. Ok so we have some new heroes, fun, a new mode - meh, and shit ton of imbalence for way to long, then some lackluster events which you are done playing after like 3 times. It felt all underwhelming, but all my faith was gathered for that big PVE. And now this. I feel lied to, betrayed and very sad.
Sorry for my long ramblings just wanted to get it out.
Thanks you sir for your loving comments ❤ I know what's its feel like 😢 it's is truely sad.
Bro has a whole essay
Man hearing Jeff’s voice again got me in tears this morning.
Who knew even a universe of joy can be collapsed by a single company’s continued horrible and opaque decisions
Such a waste of time, hope and potential. PvE in the OW universe could’ve been amazing… been playing this game since launch and suffered through the 3 1/2 years of no content while they were ‘working’ on the PvE just for them to cancel it in such a bitch way. I’m still lost for words. Such a dogshit company; completely done with this game.
The lore of Overwatch is so cool but it's clear that they don't give a fuck about their writers
@@awarepillow1180 their writers ? What writers ? They haven't done with with the story with Overwatch 1. They said it's finally going to move forward with Overwatch 2 but we're still waiting. PvE was going to be the thing. Now we'll get glorified Archives missions.
There is no writer for Overwatch, never was
@@Guarrow No writers? Then who came up with the entire backstory for the heroes, the world, the people they know, and how they interact with said things?

Don’t know why I put this just felt right
It is right. Blizzard has let us down time after time again
I am convinced that they never intended to release pve. They just needed to gaslight fans into playing the ow2
It's very clear that when Kaplan left, they were already deadset on not releasing PvE. So they just fucking lied when they've said they were « separating PvE and PvP so we can get the PvP sooner », they just didn't wanted to say they were ditching PvE
@@Guarrow that's totally correct, still can't believe they did this
Of course, If they just said no PvE then ow2 wouldn’t take off they would rather LIE to us just so they can get our money
That's not what gaslighting is
@Lorenzo Iannarilli Blizzard polish can make it gaslighting! Apparently Blizzard polish can do anything! 🥷
Seeing as how, right before the announcement they were talking about Starwatch taking several months to complete I was already thinking yikes how long will pve take? Starwatch wasnt even anything special.
Man I loved overwatch. It was my first fps, the first game I took seriously and grinded. I even found friends along the way whom Ive even got to meet irl. This game has brought me so much joy and great memories so to see it constantly worsen itself every year is truly saddening
I’ll always love this game. Always. I have too many good memories with it. Someone once very special to me showed me OW1, I’ve made friends who I’ve now met in person from OW2, and I just can’t ever stop loving it. I get that’s just me being sentimental, but this news has crushed me just for the community alone. I’m sad man. The game is really dying, and that scares me.
I feel the exact same bro, i refuse to give up the hope for Overwatch, even though i know nothing will change...
Uninstall and go outside. Why are you still riding Bilzzard so hard? They don’t care about you.
i dont even feel sad anymore. im just tired. it's like watching one of my favorite things in the world slowly die before my eyes. Overwatch has had an immense impact on my life, and now Im forced to stand idle and watch as Overwatch's life drains from it's eyes
back when i was young and got my ps4 overwatch was the first game i got, pretty sad to see it kinda go down like this
Dear special,
Money.
Sincerely,
Overwatch team.
He gave us hope but I don’t even know what hope feels like anymore
the fact that they knew even before the release of ow2 that the pve wont be coming out like they promised...
first thing i did today was uninstall the game, wont be coming back any time soon
Don't mess with us old Ow1 players, we are clinically depressed
There isnt a way forward after this. Look what Overwatch 2 offers currently:
-Divisive Robot Push mode
-Grindy lame Battle Passes
-Boring Generic Character Sojourn
-Boring Junker Queen
-Boring Zen omnic copy tank Ramattra
-Annoying little girl Kiriko
-Badly designed Support Lifeweaver
Thats it.
We have played every seasonal event in the game 2 or in some cases 3 times already.
They legitimately have no more content for us than this. They need to fully reverse their decision before its too late.
"Does this mean overwatch is back"
"Heh..."
"No."
It’s truly tragic. I sold me 3ds to buy overwatch after watching Zylbrad play genji. I begged my mom to go out and get the game, and I say I regret selling my 3ds but I don’t. It was quite arguably the greatest multiplayer experience and sense of community in 2016. The toxicity was slim, everyone was having a good time and loving it, the competitive scene was awesome and I’ve stuck with it all these years. At one point in time I could tell you every characters lore, I could tell you their height, real name, what they liked to eat, why they laughed and cried. I was so excited for a deep dive into the lore that every archives and anniversary event was so cool, the pve with a full campaign in blizzard style (as a lover of Diablo) just felt like the most anyone could ever ask for. And now it’s dead, with no replay ability, no skill tree, maybe not even any bosses. It’ll be 30 minutes if content every 2-3 months. Scraps. Nothing.
I hadn't even played overwatch yet but Overwatch 2 got me really excited with the new gameplay, heroes, old hero remodels and the PvE campaign, but now its really disappointing. However, you're still making great content, I just came from your 10hrs playing hog video, so that makes it that much better 😅
what flats said is true, if they wanted to tell a story they should have made a netflix show, this whole PvE thing was never gonna work, i mean it would be a completelly new game, doing that while keeping OW alive was not possible without some serious financial and manpower both of which activision would not want to waste on blizzard... it's very sad, i like many others that still love this game started on the open beta and at the start it was a competive game, everyone wanted to be the best, everyone was awaiting for the comp mode and now i feel like they just negleted every level of player, the casuals dont want to play a game where you need a entire year just to have enough currency just to buy a skin, and veterans have been calling comp a joke for some time now. I dont know if OW2 can stay for long but i honestly hope that they realize that they need to do something, they need to stop failling to meet spectation, they need to focus on making OW a competive game again and they need to stop with the exploratory business practices. Honestly Blizzard as a whole needs to stop with that last one, they don't have the good will of their player base anymore everyone is pissed of with their shitty performance. Anyway i guess i would like to end my rant by thanking you Special, you videos are very fun to watch and i very much like when you show a youtuber or streamer that helped you improve, even if OW dies i hope you continue making videos.
Time to hit that Tracer rewind a few years back
Great song choice
I think OW2 is about to have a MASSIVE drop in players, as many people were simply staying due to the promise of PvE. Now queue times will be worse, plus the poor souls like Special, Flats, Emongg, KarQ, Seagull, all the OW content creators will suffer now that people won't give a shit about OW2😪well done Blizzard, phenomenal job👍🏼👍🏼
I’ll say this. I don’t blame Aaron or Jared. I blame Jeff.
Jeff made the decision to pause the support for ow1 to work on PvE, even though he, as VP of Blizzard, and OW’s lead, had to have known the time and money to do so was an insane expectation. PvE and PvP together was an insane pipe dream. Jeff should have known this, but he made the decision to push forward, leaving ow1 in limbo for years. Jared and Aaron didn’t destroy ow2’s PvE, it was never going to exist. They were just honest about it
I believe that Jeff has made a great decision trying to make OW PVE, it was a very ambitious project and if BlizzCon streams and footage is anything to go by - they seemed to have a very solid vision of exactly what they were going for.
People wanted to see this, people wanted to play it, people loved the idea. Jeff went on stage during an announcment and specifically stated that OW1 is an always 6v6 team-vs-team game and there is no way they are losing that (and OW2 is the PVE).. Jeff leaves (or possibly gets pushed out), mass layoffs due to controversies, 5v5 is forced into the game despite the statement during an announcement, more aggressive monetization than what we had during Jeff's presence. And on top of all that.. PVE.. That the talent has worked 3+ years on was dropped into the garbage bin.
Blame him all you want but they threw effort of that team into the garbage after all those years who developed massive amount of tools and content just to make this possible, and once again looking at BlizzCon 2019 footage of gameplay/streams, was nearing it's completion.
Jeff actually leaves because he have disagreement and since he's gone this is what OW become
Sure blame Jeff all you want Sister, Cope
@@I_Dont_Believe_In_Salad disagreement about what? About OW1 being left to rot to work on PvE for several more years?
Also there’s the fact he was VP of Blizzard and left just a few months before the sexual harassment lawsuit dropped. You know, the one where the employee they named an OW hero after is named and shamed for sexually inappropriate behaviour that management turned a blind eye to?
@@ryanager8029 Disagreement about everything Overwatch has become since he left.
5v5 was not meant to happen, they clearly threw the identity of Overwatch and his vision in the past into the garbage.. A generic free-to-play sequel, 5v5 hero shooter that has nothing unique over what other games offer.
Almost everything about Overwatch 2 has been underwhelming and disappointing, and getting *more* content over *better* content does not justify nor is it ever how Blizzard used to handle making games.
"But this is just a simple lack of hitting expectations, expectations were set and expectations were failed to be met." God being a FNaF & Overwatch fan just hurts.
FNAF??? The game where you play for 10 mins and get bored? I get the lore is interesting or whatever but thats literally not in the same boat whatso ever
@@ihateanimebutonlywhenitiso7227 Two words, Security Breach.
Overwatch 2 is very mixed. I have eternal depression when playing competitive becuase I get flamed for getting less heals than the lucio. However, arcade, custom game modes, and quick play can be very fun
I had concerns about PvE from the moment Jeff announced it, because the kind of PvE systems he and the team talked about sounded... amateurish? Skill trees are a given, so no fault there. But "weather"? Challenge settings? "Floor is lava" gimmicks? Where are the actual PvE mechanics? Where's the exploration? What are the PvE objectives? Where are the items to find, carry and use? They kinda' sorta' hinted at some of that existing, but never showed much. What about the enemies? Yeah, the mechanics of shooting them in the legs were really cool, but we never got an idea of what the actual design goal was for them.
To me, it always felt like what Blizzard were designing was not "a PvE Overwatch". Rather, it felt like they were designing Titanfall Frontier Defence. That is to say - they were designing a PvP botmatch with a mission script. That's all their PvE missions have been so far. You go through as scripted enemy spawns assault you on cue. The Bride of Junkenstein was particularly egregious since it had barely any gameplay besides a Simon Says of scripted objectives. Walk here. Kill this Winston. Walk here, kill this Echo. Walk here, it's a key. Walk here, it's a door. Stand here, it's a switch. Etc. That's not PvE, it's a tech demo for PvE mechanics, and the mechanics aren't even all that good.
I feel that blizzard has so much potential to come back and do stuff but right now they don’t seem to be
i feel especially bad for overwatch content creators, they had to scrape by with low views for ages (sounds harsh ik) but they got given a glimmer of hope with OW2 and the PVE would have jumped views even higher, you can hear the pain in Flats voice in that clip its so sad to hear and see. given 2 years time OW2 will be a relic and forgotten like Its predecessor
They should've moved on to greener pastures
@@CBRN-115 I disagree, they went through years of no content and trusted blizzard for a brand new game with more content they knew what to make vids with, and they were let down once again we all were
The story mode was the only reason! I downloaded that shit
What expectations did they have to meet, barley anyone saw the pve. There was only hype, but even then, most people probably forgot about it anyways because they didnt show anything

It's insanely unfortunate to let such an awesome lore and hero pool languish on the vibe. They could have been the looter shooter to add the to history books.

It’s really sad, overwatch was such a good game they overhauled everything for overwatch 2 and have not met expectations. So sad it went down this way
Overwatch: Overpromised
i guess the skin recolors take more manpower than they originally thought.
Ow2 was dead the moment they announced they would remove 1 tank to "let the games queue faster". It's like a doctor removing your arm when you tell him it hurts a bit…
Overwatch 1 was started with 40-75 people working on it. I overwatch now has over 300 people working on it and almost nothing to show for it.....yippie some new maps and characters....

Did Jeff know? Is this the reason he left? He was a die hard pve wanter.
This may not be possible, but has the overwatch community tried to get overwatch 1's servers running again. The reason I ask is the Monster Hunter Community was able to get mh1 servers and mhTri servers up.

All I can ask is how in the world does this make more money than making a good game😕
Because you genuinely underestimate the revenue producing power of battle passes and cash shops and not paywalling people out of the game with a 60$ initial purchase
You paid 60$ for OW1 one time and could potentially get all the content for free
Even if you JUST buy battle passes youre paying 60$ a year now for OW2
And people who play fomi skinnerbox battle pass have known inpulse control issues to the point this kinda game design is a known targetting of them
@@saia100 i think you also underestimate the revenue gained from genuinely good games that are made alongside battle passes.
look at fuckin’ _fortnite._ they aren’t half-assing their shit in the slightest despite how much money they’ve been making over the years. you can see it in chapter 3 and creative 2.0. they’re continuously getting EVEN MORE SUCCESSFUL because they continue to stick to their vision.
It doesn't.
The blizzard fanbois always saying battle pass is the best money maker but a single release of GTA V made more than the blizzard did on all their games combined. With just a minuscule fraction of the networth and employees blizzard has. All while actibliz keeps losing money like a sinking ship with too many holes to plug.
it is just sad.

PvE was the only grain of rationality which somehow could have justified killing OW1 in favour of a successor. The exact engine is the same. A few heroes have been added. The game shop has been revamped. That's it... Those are a few updates/dlc's at best. They did us so wrong. Hope nobody gives them a single dime. The pricing is outrageous to begin with. Especially if you paid 40 euro's for ow1 base game.
