Two days at the field now with Draco and Horizon has done it again! This thing is amazing! Very dolice flyer if you wanna just tool around, right turn or kite it high winds. But... 6S power and she will get up and go! You'll fly it for a flight or two in Safe and then won't need it again. I'm getting up to 12 mins on a 6000mah and landings and touch and goes! After flying EDFs for so long...feel like I need a break half way through a battery lol. If you're a throttle hog... you'll still get 8 mins! Speaking of checking everything outta the box... I did have a loose yellow servo cable for the left wing lights (fuselage side) and no lights on wing. Was a simple 10 minute fix of getting the pin back in there. It didn't want to click in place and stay so a touch of foam tac and good to go. Not a big deal. These things happen. Just glad they made servicing the quick connects so easy! Radio setup for light controller and reverse prop was super easy! Follow the guide. Takes just a minute. I know a lot a people are balking at the price. Keep in mind, there are no short cuts or cheaply done things in this bird. Smart ESC which is like $100 of the shelf. 637T-A Telemetry Telemetry reciever...$90. Lots of Carbon throughout! Huge motor with hefty mount. The landing gear!!! Always the weak point of a plane...let alone a RC bush plane. You would have to just about nose stall from 20' to hurt this gear! It ain't Timber Gear! This shouldn't be your first plane although you can fly it like a trainer. But, if you are coming off a Timber or Cub you wint have any problems. Hell...full flaps and kill the throttle and she just floats forever with a 5knt head wind. I had problems on the maiden just getting her to wanna come down with full flaps! Horizon did a magnificent job but...they had too. You know Mike Patey wouldn't let them do anything that didn't pay respect to the full scale Draco! Now... I can't wait for Mike's Draco II and then... Horizon's! Or, Maybe a Horizon Scrappy! 😁
You can tell by Scrappy’s progress that Mike gets out his videos faster than horizon hobby. This is the coolest production RC plane ever. If I wasn’t flying it, it would be sitting in my living room FULL TIME. I will definitely be buying this plane.
Finally bought mine today. Man it's expensive. but I love the pane. Watched all Mikes videos on the original. Decided to watch build videos before unboxing it.
I just got mine a few days ago. Looking forward to the build. I was surprised about how much care there was in the foam packing which included plywood reinforcing...and you just throw it out.
Yea, had on order but found one at local hobby shop on Friday. Went home, canceled the order and grabbed one from the hobby shop. I just couldn't wait. Totally worth it. She flies amazingly! So... do you build planes?
Keep an eye on it! Shipping transit times have been a bit more variable lately than they were in the past so it's possible that could move up a day or two!
Hey guys, for those of us that want to factory reset the 637 (after firmware update) so we can have more control of AS3X gains/priorities... it seems like there is a aileron to rudder mix configured in the default gyro setup. Just can't see it in the limited forward programming screens. Is this the case and if so...what are the mix settings? One issues I have with 637T-A in a BNF plane (Draco) is the Elevator trim is way off in and out of Safe. There is always that up elevator in safe mode but when you take it out...the plane dives at half throttle when it was trimmed fine. I could fix this issue with a 637T off the self in another plane but adjusting the gains. Also...there is never enough rudder in Safe as well. I understand why. New pilots flying in safe. But, it makes it really hard to taxi and control during takeoff and landing. I've been able to tweak this as well on the F16 (another awesome plane) with the 636 programming app and USB cable (which is really miss) after dirt napping my last F16 (bad aileron servo lead and even poor field fix by mean...my bad) I got a new one and ripped out the 631 and out the 636 back in. Guys..love your products and get the forward programming concept. But... even more experienced pilots need safe now and then. Especially with a new plane until the comfort levels come up and characteristics become familiar. And Advanced Mode option would be a nice alternative for guys like us. Newbies can stay in a beginner mode in forward programming but give us an option to tweak gains/priorities and bank limits in safe as well. Maybe it's a resource issue in the reciever. Only so much memory for code? I really don't want to have to do a factory reset! Now the Draco... she is such a docile flyer just tooling around. Safe is hardly needed. But...spring time in Phoenix...10knt winds in the afternoon gusting to 20+. It's nice to know have safe for landings or if things get wonky when you need it. 😁 Man... took Draco out early this morning with 2 6s 6000mah batteries. Just working on landings and had 14 min+ flights. After flying the Tbird, A10 and F18...felt like I needed a break or something mid battery LOL. You did Mike Patey proud and that's saying a lot! Now boys...my suggestions...Back to work! 😋😁
@@GM-nm5sb so did I, and the site said pre-order when I placed. Refreshing the site immediately after, it said backorder. I may have literally bought the last one of the first batch. At least I hope so! I love this airplane!
After two strokes and a heart attack I have gone to camera drones that hover in place when I release the controls. I am VP of the Senior's Drone Club yet still have planes, gliders, helicopters and such I cannot fly. Are there enough safety features to allow the Draco to fly when my hands go bad? I do have E-flite mini helicopters for indoor flight. Thank you for any information. Looks like a beautiful build. Are the body strakes for strength. The full size Draco behind you must have changed colors from start to finish of the Draco Two Meter development? Horizontal Stab rectangular for control rather than rounded on the real one? I see a couple scoops back at the right rear of the real tail. Cooling vents? Looks like a wonderful job of design, development and finished product! I was a helicopter test pilot and worked with a lot of materials as well as variety of aircraft. Great assembly video!
👋👋 A word of warning. CHECK YOUR ELEVATOR HINGES! 👋👋 I got a Baby Draco out of the first batch. Love the plane - love Mike and the amazing things he does. Learned that the "Wiga Walk" is a real thing. Kudos to HH for making this great model and you guys better be taking notes on Scrappy or I will be grumpy! 😁 Anyway, I had checked my hinges when I assembled the plane and they seemed OK. After my third flight yesterday (about 50 total on the plane) I noticed something sticking up between the horizontal stabilizer and the elevator on the left side. It was one of the hinges! 😲 Long story short, the other left-side hinge was also out and the remaining three pulled out far easier then they should have. 😲😲 There was almost no foam adhering to the hinges themselves. Originally, there had been some flexible material filling the gap between the horizontal stabilizer and the elevator. That cracked after a few flights and a bit of that was sticking to some of the hinges but there was no foam from inside the hinge slot sticking to the hinges - which one would expect if a well bonded hinge had been pulled out. I'm replacing my hinges now but please, anyone who has a Draco, please check yours too.
Good luck waiting for tech support from these guys. Where the hell is the LiPo cut-off? They won't tell me. Might have ship there $ 600+ Jeep back if no answers.
its a pretty good rc. I really wish they would have used a higher quality shocks. The eye/clevis's are plastic and the shock is just a spring. actual nice oil filled shocks would have been really great and useful with some dampening. I have one and like it.
For the gear mount screw cover. Can the cover be modified to have magnet mounts? I can see tearing the foam trying to pull off from the double back tape to check the screws for security after a few flights since you reccomend checking hardware after several flights.
Great job guys but I am confused by your directions on placement of the washers on the wheels. The online manual shows them being put on differently than you guys installed them and explained it being done.
This video was shot before the landing gear design was finalized so please be sure to follow the most up-to-date instruction manual (updated on 4.23.21) using this link when assembling your DRACO (nearly all other details in this video are correct though!): www.horizonhobby.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-horizon-master/default/dwed0790f0/Manuals/EFL12550-Manual-Eng.pdf
@@HorizonHobbyProducts If you go to the forums there is a Draco electric with SAFE that you can fly. I’ve found it to be reasonably good. The only complaint is that it appears fragile. Landing gear breaking, wings snapping off, etc. Having watched Brian Phillips fly Draco hard, land it hard and treat it like a tough backcountry aircraft, and it did not break. When HH releases their version it may be more true to the model, but later this year could mean a long time from now. Today, go to the forums! Search on Draco. You have to download two models since the model with SAFE is dependent on the other. Good luck.
I hate to be a bummer, but my wing bolts suck to put in and get out. I have tried everything. Lubrication, alignment, everything. I really don't want to start shaving anything. What do you propose to help with this problem? Thanks.

The first shipments sold out within hours on the day of announcement, and we've continued to receive pre-orders/backorders ever since. We will be shipping more DRACOs to fill pre-orders/backorders every month, but the factory cannot build them fast enough so we will not have enough available to fill all of the pre-orders/backorders we have now until September. The sooner you place a backorder now, the sooner you will get one! Otherwise, if backorders continue to come in, we may not have them in "open" stock until closer to the end of the year! In the meantime some stores may have some stock available as we fill their and other backorders...we recommend checking with any dealers in your area if you want to find one in the next few months.
The crash reel Draco is being currently rebuilt by the owner to improve the airframe, engine & aeronautics flight characteristics. Therefore this model is now obsolete and dose not have the improvements being made to the new Draco version 2. I'm thinking I should probably wait because Horizon next year we'll come out with version 2 of this model airplane please advise. After all the extremely bright highly intelligent pilot did crash this model in the real scale version this is exactly what he wants to correct the existing problems these are my concerns before I spend $1,200 for the combo pack.
You should watch this video: ruclips.net/video/9VqmyrJK8_A/видео.html And this video to learn more about the next version of DRACO (DRACO X): ruclips.net/video/jX6ZwDcLACA/видео.html Changes will be notable, but not so significant as to have a drastic impact on how a model will fly. And a model version of a DRACO X, if it happens, will be at least 2-3 years away from now. BTW, this is currently the latest comment in the first video linked above...safe to say this model is not "obsolete" or problematic in any way: SkyWriter25 I made my first flights with mine this morning and it is amazing - even after watching many flight review videos over the past week. It doesn't really sink in how good this thing is until you actually fly it. The low end of the flight envelope is crazy slow. It's like it just won't stall - it just drops the nose a little bit and keeps on flying! 😎 I was really sad that Mike lost the “real” Draco (glad no one was hurt) but it is great to see all these little baby Dracos flying around now! 🐉 👍

Hey Guys, my question is; Why does Horizon hobby discontinue their planes so quickly? I really want his plane and I'm afraid by the time I "save" enough in my hobby allowance it will be discontinued, or I'll look back on one of your videos and see a plane I really want and it's discontinued. Example is the eFlite Rare Bear, the Carbon Z-Scimitar, or even the F4F Wildcat , all wonderful planes the people ask where to get it and you have to tell them they are no longer. Bring back some of those planes again!!!
They're additional unused wire leads/connectors from the ESC. They can be used in other applications, but are not necessary for/cannot be used in DRACO.
It is a common size...it's a 3mm (M3) locknut that requires a 5.5mm nut driver many people in the RC hobby already have. You can also use a 5.5m socket or an adjustable wrench (as shown in the video), or even pliers (not preferred/recommended, but will work!), to install it.
DRACOs began selling/shipping worldwide today (4.23.21)! However, due to extremely high order volumes, some shipments may not go out today...but most/all should go out by Monday!
@@HorizonHobbyProducts After asking my hobby store when they will ship, as I preordered there, they said they don’t have an exact time, but estimate that they will ship it mid to end of may. So does that mean that they only started shipping the orders made on the HH website or everywhere?
@@chrisaviationrc Horizon Hobby EU shipped DRACOs to many distributors and dealers throughout the UK/EU last week in preparation for the worldwide launch/release today. They also began shipping direct pre-orders to consumers today (but due to extremely high order volumes some shipments may not go out until Monday). So where your dealer is located in EU, how many they ordered and when they ordered (if they did not order soon enough they may have missed the initial shipment) will impact how many they receive and when they will receive stock.
Are you in talks with Mike on a Scrappy build. I know I have been talking with him through the whatsapp. I want to get back into rc flying because I had to stop flying when I had my sons 9 years ago. I want to get them into aviation and I think it would be awesome to have this and a scrappy especially since the field I will be moving near at the end of the year is really a bush type rc field.
We'll have to wait and see when Scrappy is done ;) In the meantime, for anyone new to or getting back into flying RC, we highly recommend the HobbZone® Carbon Cub S 2 (www.horizonhobby.cc/CarbonCubS2RTF). Keep an eye on it! Shipping transit times have been a bit more variable lately than they were in the past so it's possible that could move up a day or two!
@@HorizonHobbyProducts Oh, you know I will be, excited! Thanks!
Sooooo, will we see a Scrappy also? :)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ;)
@@HorizonHobbyProducts ohhhh shiiiiiiii
@@HorizonHobbyProducts a rc car scrappy? seeing as it doesn't have wings?
Man... took Draco out early this morning with 2 6s 6000mah batteries. Just working on landings and had 14 min+ flights. After flying the Tbird, A10 and F18...felt like I needed a break or something mid battery LOL. You did Mike Patey proud and that's saying a lot!
Now boys...my suggestions...Back to work! 😋😁
The only thing this model is missing is a soundboard to match the noise the full scale DRACO made. Modulated by the throttle of course.😊
Nice video, and wonderful model! It just hurts to see an adjustable wrench being used in assembly! Ouch!
Saving for one now!! Just such a very cool plane
I will still hope you can build a smaller version of this plane as you have done with other models. It would sell very well also.
;)
Bet I could fit that bad boy in my Prius.
Just need to fit it into my budget, now.
Back to work!! 👍
If that isn't the biggest Easter egg in the background I've ever seen..👍😉❤
So glad mine is on its way.
Has yours shipped? I can't tell if I got my order in in time to get the first batch
Yes mine shipped Thursday. It’s supposed to come Sunday. I ordered that first day as soon as they put it on the website.
@@GM-nm5sb so did I, and the site said pre-order when I placed. Refreshing the site immediately after, it said backorder. I may have literally bought the last one of the first batch. At least I hope so! I love this airplane!
@@citizenblue hope you got it then 🤞
Enjoyed this video Great Job Team Horizon . I Cannot wait to get the one I ordered .
I cannot wait to get mine!!!
👋👋 A word of warning. CHECK YOUR ELEVATOR HINGES! 👋👋
I got a Baby Draco out of the first batch. Love the plane - love Mike and the amazing things he does. Learned that the "Wiga Walk" is a real thing. Kudos to HH for making this great model and you guys better be taking notes on Scrappy or I will be grumpy! 😁
Anyway, I had checked my hinges when I assembled the plane and they seemed OK.
I own one !! 😜👍 It just hasn't shipped yet... 😢
Good luck waiting for tech support from these guys. Where the hell is the LiPo cut-off? They won't tell me. Might have ship there $ 600+ Jeep back if no answers.
It took me forever to figure out where the counterbalances went onto the wings/ailerons!
OK, this question will need to be answered for the touch-up of hangar rash..
What is the closest paint to match the main color ?
I ordered a tube of UHU adhesive from Amazon after watching this video.
its a pretty good rc. I really wish they would have used a higher quality shocks. The eye/clevis's are plastic and the shock is just a spring. actual nice oil filled shocks would have been really great and useful with some dampening. I have one and like it.
TURBULENCE!!!
Kewl build video! Thanks guys. :-)
Such an awesome model, sure miss the real one, damn...Thank god Draco lives..
Mine just arrived at my front door about an hour ago.. she’s staying on the shelf. I know it will be worth more later..
Loved it. Love the plane.
I love this plane! Only bummer is I didn’t get the wing tip guards and I called Tech support and they can’t get any
Are you guys going to make an rc scrappy?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ;)
Love the Draco great fun flyer but for what horizon charges they could use better components …. Like non plastic shocks
Mine arrives tomorrow. When will spare parts come into stock ?
Spare parts are already in stock and begin shipping later today/tomorrow!
When is it going into realflight.
Later this year ;)
Yes! Great question...
Thanks.
Is that metal sheet with the handle the hood for the full scale Draco?
Yes it is! Good catch :)
Thanks Guys 👍😀💪
I have purchased this glorious plane.
Will it be possible to use my old DX 7 transmitter, and get full control over all features?
You can see all the details and more regarding the stock tires/wheels, plus some optional inflatable Dubro tires that will also work, in this post from the official thread on RCGroups: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3853409-The-ALL-NEW-E-flite-DRACO-2-0m-%C2%96-The-Ultimate-Bush-Plane/page65#post46906017
Also, because the airframe is injection molded EPO, you can use pretty much any kind of glue! CA, epoxy, foam-specific glues, etc. For example, we recommend these options:
Deluxe Materials Foam 2 Foam Glue (readily available alternative to UHU Por): www.horizonhobby.com/product/foam-2-foam-foam-safe-glue-50ml-epo-eps-wood/DLMAD34.html
ZAP Zap-A-Gap Medium CA+ Glue, 1/2 oz: www.horizonhobby.com/product/zap-a-gap-medium-ca-glue-1-2-oz/PAAPT03.html
ZAP Foam Safe Kicker Spray, 2 oz (optional, not required…foam safe accelerator/kicker is typically better suited for use on painted surfaces): www.horizonhobby.com/product/foam-safe-kicker-spray-2-oz/PAAPT28.html
Deluxe Materials Foam 2 Foam Glue (readily available alternative to UHU Por): www.horizonhobby.com/product/foam-2-foam-foam-safe-glue-50ml-epo-eps-wood/DLMAD34.html
ZAP Zap-A-Gap Medium CA+ Glue, 1/2 oz: www.horizonhobby.com/product/zap-a-gap-medium-ca-glue-1-2-oz/PAAPT03.html
ZAP Foam Safe Kicker Spray, 2 oz (optional, not required…foam safe accelerator/kicker is typically better suited for use on painted surfaces): www.horizonhobby.com/product/foam-safe-kicker-spray-2-oz/PAAPT28.html
@@HorizonHobbyProducts Merci beaucoup de m'avoir répondu c vraiment super .... Cela va vraiment être une aide bienvenue ..... A quand des Draco en magasin sur la région de France ???? Stéph...
Well done, appreciated
How often can the wings safely be taken on and off for transport without damaging all the connectors? Love Draco! What a wonderful job! Well done!
Thank you and many thousands! Which is likely many more times than most will ever do it :)
Why is this still on back order, and when can we expect restocked?
OK back to work😎
The crash reel Draco is being currently rebuilt by the owner to improve the airframe, engine & aeronautics flight characteristics.
You should watch this video: ruclips.net/video/9VqmyrJK8_A/видео.html
And this video to learn more about the next version of DRACO (DRACO X): ruclips.net/video/jX6ZwDcLACA/видео.html
Changes will be notable, but not so significant as to have a drastic impact on how a model will fly. And a model version of a DRACO X, if it happens, will be at least 2-3 years away from now.
BTW, this is currently the latest comment in the first video linked above...safe to say this model is not "obsolete" or problematic in any way:

I made my first flights with mine this morning and it is amazing - even after watching many flight review videos over the past week. 🐉 👍
Any plans for floats or snow skiis for the Draco?
Look Julius, that's real model airplane !!
please Horizon, we need a 90mm to 120mm composite ARF jet kit. Please we need another choice other than foam !!!!!
It looks amazing!!! I want one NOW!!! Lol
There’s no chance to find it in Italy....
Awesome job on the vid, guys! Thanks. One question: what are the dims of the plane without the wings? (need to make sure I can transport it!).
what glue is he saying? in the yellow?
UHU Por....we offer this as a readily available alternative: Deluxe Materials Foam 2 Foam Glue: www.horizonhobby.com/product/foam-2-foam-foam-safe-glue-50ml-epo-eps-wood/DLMAD34.html
Ive never flown An RC plane! Should i learn on a smaller plane? and should i wait to buy Draco
You should definitely learn on a smaller, simpler and purpose-built trainer: Are you new to flying RC (Radio Controlled) aircraft? If you are, we recommend learning to fly with one of our purpose-built trainer aircraft such as the HobbZone® Carbon Cub S 2 (www.horizonhobby.cc/CarbonCubS2RTF). Based on the Carbon Cub flown by Mike’s wife, Chandra Patey, it’s equipped with exclusive and innovative SAFE technology that makes it possible for almost anyone to learn to fly successfully! The Ready-To-Fly (RTF) version includes everything needed to fly in one box and is the perfect choice if you're a new RC pilot.
RealFlight® is the #1 RC flight simulator in the world! It's the absolute best tool new RC pilots can use when learning how to fly. It also makes it possible for experienced RC pilots to practice new maneuvers and to hone their skills so they can become even better pilots. See more info here: www.horizonhobby.com/RealFlight
Is there a Draco model in the RealFlight PC Simulator program?
Are you guys working on making Scrappy???
Hey Guys, my question is; Why does Horizon hobby discontinue their planes so quickly? I really want his plane and I'm afraid by the time I "save" enough in my hobby allowance it will be discontinued, or I'll look back on one of your videos and see a plane I really want and it's discontinued. Example is the eFlite Rare Bear, the Carbon Z-Scimitar, or even the F4F Wildcat , all wonderful planes the people ask where to get it and you have to tell them they are no longer. Bring back some of those planes again!!!
Is there anything else we're gonna see other then the draco?
Something that's pretty much the complete opposite is coming next week ;)
@@HorizonHobbyProducts I am never going to financially recover

Hi wats the 2 extra wires for near the lights control box for
They're additional unused wire leads/connectors from the ESC. They can be used in other applications, but are not necessary for/cannot be used in DRACO.
Why did you use a 5.5 mm nut on the landing gear. That is not a common tool to have! Is there no nut with the same threads in a common size?
It is a common size...it's a 3mm (M3) locknut that requires a 5.5mm nut driver many people in the RC hobby already have. You can also use a 5.5m socket or an adjustable wrench (as shown in the video), or even pliers (not preferred/recommended, but will work!), to install it.
Awesome!
I've trying to find Scrappy's wings on this video!. Don´t you?. Loooooovvvveeee Draco RC model. Someday, for sure!.
When will they ship in Europe?
DRACOs began selling/shipping worldwide today (4.23.21)! However, due to extremely high order volumes, some shipments may not go out today...but most/all should go out by Monday!
@@HorizonHobbyProducts okay, thanks!!
