I think youtube is reading my mind, because I came across with this video that talks about the topic, which is the biggest concern for me lately. I am a graduate student in the US and was studing english for 20 years, but still feel like I am not speaking well enough, can’t express my thoughts as I wanted them to sound. Even writing this message is a struggle for me, cuz I can’t deliver my message in a perfect way that I want it to be. I am using chatgpt for writing and everytime I am amazed how perfectly it conveyed my message and I wish to reach that level. Additionally, I totally agree with you about how our inability to express our thoughts in our mother tongue, finding right answers in our everyday conversations can impose barriers in speaking in a foregn language. I am struggling with communication and find it challenging to articulate my thoughts (chatgpt helped with this). Also, I am amazed how you talk perfectly so many languages 😍 good luck with your endeavors and thank you for your tips
A helpful listening + speaking exercise: Date: 17.02.2024 1) watch a short random video (preferably 1 min long) 2) look at the new words, study them, and understand the general idea (you can look at the translation if needed) 3) mute the video, read subtitles out loud and try to imitate the speaker's intonation and accent 4) record yourself while speaking (you need another device for that). I have another phone, if you don't have it you can use a phone and a computer for that 5) turn on the sound of the video, watch it again and listen to the voice recording of yours, check the similarity and the level of imitation (melody, intonation, stress). 6) If the recording vary, then record again and try to makes it perfect.
I often feel that my language skills deteriorate in front of natives but I speak it anyway, because remember, most of the native speakers out there might not even speak more than one language. I think it's something we all need to remind ourselves more often 🙈
I‘m really impressed by your speaking in Russian, especially when I heard you first time. it’s amazing how you speak without accent. Thanks Iclal for this video, you confirmed my opinion about the necessary of retelling about what you read. And I would add about recording yourself, it really works, I have been recorded myself only 3 times and I feel how words is found easily and my speech flows smoothly. But I can’t still reproduce rhythms, intonation and I hope in the nearest future to fix it.
I have a frustrating experience. Not knowing where to begin or hitting a plateau can feel demoralizing and make it hard to hit the books and study like you know you should…Having friends from other cultures makes me more creative. In fresh ways about space and how people create their own world and environment. It is best way to connect between creative thinking and cross-cultural relationships.
Не перестаю восхищаться тем, как чисто вы говорите по-русски! Уже все мои друзья наслышаны о девочке из Турции, которая говорит по-русски практически без акцента =)
Thank you for this video. But does anyone here also hate phone calling? Like I don't know why, phone calling makes me anxious (yes, am an introvert but that shouldn't be the only reason). Maybe you guys have some tips to be more confident on speaking through a phone? (Cause I really prefer eye to eye conversations)
Oh my god you just saved me years of my life. I always HAAAATED courses, because theres just so much resources to interact with languages... and im excited about the cultures and sounds of the languages i like (russian, polish and german) so i really never am not interested or wanting to try reading something and listening to it. Courses just seem like the easiest way to kill my passion for language learning in the most cruel and boring way possible while focusing soooo much on grammar as if its some sort of amusement park (more like boredom park!!) That you just go through this grammar bit once, and then the next one and are somehow expected to become fluent. Hell naaaah. Im never taking a course again, im just gonna follow my interests and take proficiency tests at most (if much!). Thanks for another life changing video!
I'm an arab who speaks Turkish way better than Arabic. And after watching your video I realized that I just understood everything you said but can't talk about it. Thank you.
i feel like if i spent all this time learning another language instead of english i would have mastered that language, the english language is just extremely challenging..an endless amount of synonyms and vocabularies are what makes it so difficult
@@watermelon3679 the geographical location plays a big role as well, in my case i didn't find any difficulties learning arabic because i acquired it from a young age watching arabic tv programs at 7 or 8 years of age because most of our neighbour countries are arabs , for the other languages you mentioned i haven't even tried to learn them not for once but regardless i'm almost sure that they wouldn't appear to be as challenging as english is for me (when i talk about difficulty achieving C2 level is what i mean or it's not that hard to get to B1)

In ogni tuo video esponi concetti molto interessanti e realistici, con osservazioni e deduzioni molto intelligenti. Mi permetto di aggiungere che serve molto quando parliamo da soli, immaginarsi di essere davvero in quella situazione. Almeno, a me aiuta a ricordare maggiormente in base al contesto. Ho seguito i tuoi percorsi linguistici, ma non ho capito il metodo di apprendimento che hai avuto per il tuo ottimo inglese

Here's another reason why you can't speak: Embarrassment. I can speak many languages to myself just fine. But ask me to say something to you in [insert language]? I might as well have thrown grammar, pronunciation, spelling, confidence and self-esteem out the window. I'm a total bye-lingual
