It was my roommates birthday. Zach was doing a comedy show and I couldn't go. He walked into the bar we were at after his show. I was the only one who knew who he was. Sat with him for a hour and just chatted. Nicest guy in the world.
I believe it, years ago about 2006/2007 I was living in Albany, NY saw him walk by a bar I was in and popped out to say hi, really nice guy, he left went to a bar across the street, come to find out some buddies of mine were there they spent all night hanging out with him. Chill dude.
Turns out is it was actually plumber named Hank trying to sell you into a pyramid scheme. He was thrilled that someone actually talked to him for more than 10 seconds finally.
What an inspiring guy. Didn’t make it big big till he was 40.... and he never let it get to his head like a lot of others do. Gotta respect and love this guy standing up against Hollywood, social media, and what he thinks being a “celebrity” means.
Im an actor at 46. I used to want it so bad, now it terrifies me. To have an entire nation of apex predators staring at you and just invading your privacy at will. No thanks. Im grateful for the small roles I play. (Like dirty cop #3 in Ass Blasterz 7)
Making it in Hollywood as an actor isn't as easy as it seems. Hollywood is full of people trying to make it a fickle business where fame doesn't last. People get lost in the delusion that one day they'll be famous. It's easy enough to show up in Hollywood and end up as an extra but that isn't the way in the door. It's an interesting experience and can be fun being on the set at times but most actors are all at auditions to try and just get a speaking part in a film or T.V. show. Many of the more eccentric people end up dressed up as a character on the boulevard. Look at the story of the Hollywood superman Christopher Dennis. He was on T.V and was known but never really made it and became homeless. Its sad how Hollywood just uses someone doesn't try to help them and let them rot in the street. Zach basically has sticked to being a comic actor and it has worked for him.

Here’s hoping he gets some thoughtful fan interactions in the future. I get the impression that he’d be an absolutely joy to sit down and converse with!
1:31 DeNiro has talked about that. DeNiro, as a young actor, used to go down to Union Square and just observe people. It’s a huge part of an actor’s job. Suddenly, the observer is being observed and it just doesn’t work. People always talk about how money ruins otherwise great performers (and there is probably some truth to that). But I think it’s really losing the ability to simply observe human behavior.
Happens with artists and musicians too in a different sense, especially when they thrive off the hard, lonely, and often depressing times they endure in the beginning, plagued with suffering and doubt, and then they "make it", and money sends them down a different path, sometimes one lacking the pain necessary to transform into meaningful art

Zach is the realest guy in showbiz, almost an anti-celebrity. So down to earth, cuts right thru all the Hollywood bullshit, a normal dude in abnormal circumstances. It's just that he happens to be one of the most effortlessly hilarious and people to ever exist. What I'd give to tell him in person how much his comedy and overall work has meant to me, even if it called for (respectfully) interrupting his day. My all-time favorite comedian.
Just another reason to love this guy. So unassuming. And honest! If we were ever to meet, I'd much rather have a conversation with Zach as a human, than a photo of Zach the celebrity. Thank you, Sam, for these great interviews!
I met Andre 3000 once at the Hugo Boss here in Dallas, I was kinda heated afterwards that I didn’t ask for a picture but it was a very dope encounter, we actually had a 2-3 minute conversation. I don’t think we would’ve had that convo had I asked for a picture, well worth it.
I met André as well. In a café around Los Angeles. I’m not the type that would really go up to strangers and especially not celebrities but I agree it was well worth it with André! Like you, we spoke for a couple mins and he seemed so genuine and down to earth. Everyone I’ve seen mention meeting him has had nothing but nice things to say about their encounter. It’s cool coming across these stories, thanks for sharing.
Once you move past the idea of having to prove to other people you met a celebrity, the rest is easy. Not only do people not care, they won't believe you even if you show them. Just enjoy the moment while it lasts.
I love Zach's story about Christmas back home. On Christmas Eve, the family went to church. At the end of the service, someone lit a candle, each person lit their neighbor's candle while singing "Silent Night." His Dad's candle wouldn't light, the song was progressing, and his Dad was getting more upset. his just made Zach laugh, which just made his Dad angrier. Sleep in heavenly peace.
