There's probably other infestations throughout the facility because of a food source other than cars,equipment, furniture,etc. I believe the storage company is responsible for pest control,but like many other businesses around the city,little to no effort is taken to control them. Unfortunately, he signed a contract,which may release them from the liability of such a situation. This tells you that you should read the contract first before doing business with the facility. Investigating first is also good because I'm sure he isn't the only customer experiencing this. All customers should visit and inspect their units often for rodents,theft, water leaks, and other issues.

everyone i have ever known who stored a car had problems with mice causing damage. my friend parked his truck in his garage for a month in marquette michigan and it cost him 12,000 to fix it.
I had my brand new fj cruiser outside. Truck cost me almost 50k. I had about 1k miles on it and one day it would barely run. But it was a brand new truck? Turns out since it was cold out something decided to sleep in the engine bay. The dealer pulled out a racoon nest and they chewed through the main wiring harness
That's funny you have a car in storage and you do nothing to surround it with regular bait and mothballs, That's how my cars are stored and they're not as nice as this was, on the good part he bought insurance from them so they should pay
Store your valuables in a proper climate controlled space. For a grand more you can have your whip in a way better spot. Can’t cheap out on the investment.

All storage units are full of rats and bugs all the units I've ever rented were like this. You have to rodent proof your own stuff.
