@@thebangkokguide Thanks man. I am sussing it out here. I am staying near Bearing station. Do you think it is a good area? It seems nice to me, but maybe a little bit too little expats around here? and I am missing the big nice park :)
@@stefanbajer9399 I never spent much time over there. As a newcomer I would definitely recommend a more central location… it can feel a bit more isolating further out, and makes it difficult to explore the whole city to get a feel for different areas. Sukhumvit around Asok - Phromphong is probably the best area for newcomers. Rama 9 or Onnut is quite good if looking for a cheaper option. Cheers
Water Songkran Festival in Thailand , each area will not be the same period, All foreigners can make a plan for almost a month. I hope all foreigners will meet and have fun with this SONGKRAN FESTIVAL..
I purposely left for three weeks in the U.S., first visit in seven months. I landed in Bangkok last April 12. Saw the water fest in Jomtien, Hua Hin (not so bad), Pattaya and Krung Thep.
Awwh..How sad it is. I hope you can come back again next year and experience our New Year, Songkran festival here. We always welcome you. 🥰😍 I just thought of it, at Khaosan road, the start on 11th April, you can go there! 😉🙃😃

Welcome to all foreigners who wil come to visit Songkran Festival (Water Festival)in Thailand, May everyone be happy this Songkran Festival on 11-16th April 2024 🙏🎉💖🇹🇭💖🎉🙏 See you in Thailand/ With love💖🤩💖
During the Songkran Festival 2023 at Khao San Road I saw six foreigners wearing military uniforms as part of a group of adventurers. They look very cool and fierce. But in the end he was defeated by the Thai people. Because it is the hallmark of being easily hunted. And they seem to really enjoy being hunted.🤣🤣 💙💙💦May you all enjoy this Songkran Festival 2024. And prepare to deal with the greatest water war in the world in Thailand.💦💙💙
The best way as an expat is to cross a border to Laos or Cambodia for a week because you have already been there and done that. For a tourist, wear cheap clothing, put a smile on your face, drink up, don't take it seriously and dont rent a motorbike. Enjoy your life. You only get one.
My first ever trip in 2007 I'd done no research and was in Samui for Songkran. Hadn't a clue what was going on, had to ask the hotel staff as being from the UK if someone squirts water on you it gets very nasty in under 30 seconds. Avoided it ever since.
Good news! This Songkran, Silom Road will be closed for water splashing, but only for 2 days: April 13th and 14th. This is the first time since the COVID-19 period that Silom Road will be closed for water splashing.
@@thebangkokguideBecause last year, they didn't close Silom Road (allowing splashing only on the pedestrian walkway), so many attendees moved to Khaosan Road instead. That's why Khaosan Road was excessively crowded last year, posing a risk of stampede.
Countries that play Songkran the most in order 1Thailand 70 million people 2Myanmar 53 million people 3Cambodia 17 million people 4Laos 7 million people
Thanks! After reading a few critical comments that I actually agreed with, I decided to change a few parts. Sometimes when making a video, I don’t notice flaws and it’s always best to accept fair critiques! I’ll repost the updated version soon! Cheers
I think Bangkok has more modern malls, condos and public transportation…although Toronto is generally more equal as all the buildings and housing needs to follow very strict regulations (no slums etc)…although now they have tent cities for homeless.
I wish you told us how to celebrate the holiday seriously as Buddhists... I'm a western Buddhist and was hoping to see the monks celebrate it respectfully, -"bathing the Buddha", as they say in Tibetan Buddhism. But truthfully, I haven't a clue which Wat to visit, if I'm allowed to visit, and what time the ceremonies start. (I enjoy your posts, thanks)
Most temples have services… pretty much every neighborhood temple will have monks giving sermons and people bring food offerings. I went to one years back but I didn’t film anything. Perhaps I will go check it out this year! Cheers
Try searching for the Songkran parade (with Miss Songkran) in any cities. They usually have the event carrying Buddha around the city and allow people to water the Buddha for good luck. Also, I think you will enjoy this activity (sand pagoda building competition) ruclips.net/video/XPhGl46LC-8/видео.htmlsi=HSIkEh_545BnXgIP&t=179
Songkran aside, you can go to any temple at any time of year before 7am to bring food to the monks and receive a blessing. You just need to go to the market to buy the food beforehand. We did it the other day with a guide but now we know what to do, we can do it whenever we want and as a Buddhist myself I was really interested in experiencing the alms giving practice and because we were with a guide we also got a short teaching and a blessing from the abbot. I definitely recommend it. Have a good trip
in this year thai people start holiday in 12-16 i think they play on that 5 days but someplace play 10-22 and you try to search on this clip recomment but bangkok ..umm 12-16 maybe but stand 100% for sure 13-15 , what time i think sunrise on 12 or 13
You never see the monks disrespected with powder and water drenching. The level of disrespect for people who need to go about their daily business without harassment is unreal. This is Thailand. Try asking politely when you are in a business suit on your way to a meeting for immunity. They don't care.
I think it depends. I actually had quite a few people today that noticed I’m not dressed for songkran and they refrained from splashing me. I think it might depend on the area though.
@@thebangkokguide I have lived in BKK for 20 years now. I think you will agree, Farangs are a prime target.... Don't get me wrong, it's a special time for Thais, I do understand it's the one time of year they escape from the long working hours they endure. But please show a little more respect for some, after all, we are not all tourists.
I am honestly not a big fan of Songkhran. 555 Last year (2023) I was hiding in Fortuna Hotel and observing the crazyness also from the McDonald's you showed (at the start of Sukhumvit Soi 5). This year (2024) I will leave Thailand in this crazy period. Yes, I am Muslim, but I think what is happening has nothing to do with real Buddhist Culture.
I love the holiday but I can definitely understand that some people don’t want to be attacked with water and wet all day 😅 If you stay outside the main water areas, it’s much more relaxed. I’m at Rama 9 and can walk around without any water. The water fighting is definitely a much newer commercial addition to the holiday. It reminds me of Santa Claus for Christmas… Cheers!
Most of the non tourist areas are fairly relaxed…just keep an eye out for people on street corners with hoses and buckets. I’m over at Rama 9 and I can wander around freely here without getting wet.
Can't wait my first songkran this year haha
Great time!

Yeah I’ve seen some videos. I’d like to check it out! Cheers
Would wearing a rain suit be cheating?
It would be like a bulletproof vest for water guns.
Some of the workers do this as they are out there all day… definitely more comfortable
เตรียมตัวให้ดีสงครามกำลังเริ่มขึ้น war songkan in Thailand
Yes! 🇹🇭🎉🎉
Water war in thailand❤
Lots of fun!
My rule no1 is to totally avoid being in Pattaya during songkran. It's bedlam and out of control.
Not a bad rule! 😅
Easy, don't go..
Haha not everyone is a fan of the water
Its funny..a tips from a white foreign man.
True 😅
Skin color and xenophobia were your first thoughts??
Seems a very bigoted mindset...
@@tractordamage5272 Is he white? Or Asian Thai? You let me know.
@tractordamage5272 what is wrong with being white?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
For the older tourists, where to go to avoid water fights in Bangkok? 🤔
Most of the non tourist areas are fairly relaxed…just keep an eye out for people on street corners with hoses and buckets. I’m over at Rama 9 and I can wander around freely here without getting wet.
