Nice review, some people have a negative respect, your review pointed out the positive aspects of the car! Don’t forget if you buy one new, Cadillac will send you to a driving school to teach how to drive the car in a performance situation on a track with instruction!
I bought a 2017 automatic sedan in Sept of 2020 with 15k miles. The previous owner(s) took great care of it. I'm loving every moment in the car so far and I plan on keeping it forever.
I have to laugh at people who never drove it and constantly talk shit about the ATS for being a Cadillac product. I don't know a single owner who didn't immediately fall in love with it. A friend who owned pretty much every hot hatch from both sides of the Atlantic now uses this as his daily. It's a fabulous driver's car, with surprisingly comfortable seats, that handles better than pretty much anything this side of a supercar. And you can get the 2.0 for the price of a demo Accord, with the mad incentives they give. A truly good buy, laughably cheaper than a base C Class. But all you need is a test drive, really.
This is such an underrated car but I was always irritated by the CUE system, although Caddy has been improving it steadily. Also, the back seats are a joke even in the sedan, forget the coupe. There are always huge discounts on the ATS-V both new and used as they hardly sell when compared to the M3/4 and C63
I wish they would bring this to Australia.Because They don't make any high performance sports cars like the Holdon Commodore or the Ford Falcon any more.
"Back seat room is tight" is Auto magazine speak for- It's not suitable for above average adults. I am 5'11", sat in the ATS sedan and it was ridiculously small and I couldn't sit behind driver's seat adjusted for me. It is way smaller than comparable BMW E90 or F30/Cclass/A4/Infiniti G/Q/Lexus IS all of which I test drove and could easily fit in the backseats.
I owned a 2.0 T ATS and I can tell you you the chassis balance is glorious. Clearly this is where Cadillac spent all their money, as opposed to interior design. As for the PDR, i still can't beleive it's available in the litigous USA (and by extension Canada, because we piggyback all their cars and car laws)
It's considered to be "cool" to criticize domestic cars (Consumer Reports, C&D, R&T, MT, etc all biased) so it's nice to see a positive review for a change. I have a '16 ATS 2.0T 6MT. It handles great, better even than my '05 CTS-V did. I'd love to have this ATS-V with a 6MT. Thanks for your review.
Love the ATS V but was surprised to hear that Cadillac is down with quality and reliability issues lately. Since it is the same chassis as the Camaro, the ATS V should have a v8 with the Camaro getting the twin turbo V6 as an available option (RS?). I also love what Cadillac has done with the side window, B and C pillars: looks better than the Camaro and I'd expect it to have better visibility.
L'A Nation bull shit ATS v is more powerful and In my opinion better interior. And it won't break down after 50k miles. Also the oil change won't cost me a few hundred dollars unlike a BMW smh.
Thanks Zack. Great video. I personally would love to see Lincoln throw in some competition... Like maybe a Continental Mark IX - with the trunk spare tire hump, of course.
Really wish they had an ats vsport in the middle. Take the 3.0tt from the ct6 and shove in the luxruy/base trim. Priced just a but more than the N/A v6/2.0t. Kind of like the 228i, m235i, m2 and a4, rs4, s4 packaging.
There’s only a few reasons why this or even the CTS-V is underrated, but going over the ATS-V: the twin turbo V6 nobody likes (even though there’s some hypocrisy out there,) people thinking they’re getting a less properly built car when they think of Cadillac, but what I think is its major drawback is that it has the same chassis as the 6th gen Camaro (which sports an NA or supercharged V8)
I have rented both F10 BMW 328i and this ATS 2.0T, I would say the Cadillac was more fun to drive, it surely was. But the CUE is THE WORST PART OF THE CAR. The CUE looks clean for the designer, but it's awful to use, you HAVE to look away from your windscreen to know what you have touched on the display screen, or the controls of the A/C.
Those gauges, ugh I shudder every time I see them. I can't imagine having to look at that cheap garbage everyday. I don't know how that passed initial design let alone the refresh. It's the ONLY reason I haven't bought the ATS already and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Such a nice looking car. Never even seen one. Would keep it for life. This thing will age well and always be worth more than the run of the mill versions.
Cory Stansbury Exactly! That's why it's especially frustrating. The airport limo XTS gets a full digital option rivalling Jaguars' and yet this 75k performance car gets something that looks like it came from a 90s bus. I don't know why the auto journals didn't rip them up and down for it
Direct Reply Does your body really go into convulsive shudders just from viewing the instrument gauges on this particular car? Perhaps you're just an undiagnosed epileptic and not someone who's unnecessarily offended by a vehicle they're not being forced to purchase.
Too bad the rest of the car is so meh. The ATS despite it performance credentials & handling prowess is being upstaged by almost everyone, from established 3 series, luxury C-class, the reliable IS, the gizmo-laden Q50, the dynamic XE & even the new MT CoTY Giulia. I was a fan of the ATS when it first came out in 2013, but in 2017 the class has moved FAR beyond what it can do with its inherently flawed interior design & frankly, ridiculous sticker price. GM needs to go back to the drawing board, but given how luxury sedans are now being outsold by the stupid SUV, I think the ATS would likely not get a 2nd generation in favor of a XT3 or XT4 instead.
My buddy leased a 2014 CTS and it was incredibly unreliable. The number of recalls it had in the first 2 years was ridiculous. The ATS is cool but just doesn't seem worth owning. Cadillac needs to figure that out otherwise what's the point of making such a great looking and driving car if it's going to probably be a piece of crap in the end?
Personally, I am fan of Cadillac's recent designs. I guess that it either grabs people or it doesn't. I think one issue is that people have the dodgy image of Cadillac from the boats of the 50s - 70s further exacerbated by a lot of the crap that they put out in the 80s and 90s Cimarron, V864, HT4100, look alike GM cars of the 80s and their first horrid attempts at competing with the Germans and who can forget the Northstar engine failures. However, I think with the CTS and ATS they really have a good product, I just don't know if the market will forgive them for their past sins.
Sorry its not a basic looking "egg" like every other car on the road. I swear every car in this class loves to mimic Porsche or a Mazda Miata and just recycles the same designs over and over with slightly different variations. At least GM is willing to make radical changes.
Just terrible interior, not sure why people can take it. MB, bmw, audi, Lx all have much nicer, comfortable interiors, what is with american interior designers
What an outdated POS. Cadillac has used this same styling for almost 20-years now. Either the division is STUPID, LAZY... or both. A tinny 6-cylinder can be turbo-charged to sound like a turbo-charged tinny motor. Don’t even get me started on the Cue system. I rented a Cadillac years ago on a trip and it was a cramped, awful mess. Traded my leased V8 K900 in for a 2018 M550i a couple weeks ago. The BMW would make short work of this crappy Caddy turned wannabe track car.
Yawn. Yet another high powered ugly car from GM. The only ones that will be driving it are retired folks in Florida with tan leather skin and Bermuda shorts.
31 and just traded in my Evo X for one. Absolutely the most balanced car Ive ever driven. It strikes the perfect balance between being fast and feeling fast. This car genuinely puts a giant smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel.
Pros to Cadillac for still providing a manual!
I'm an import guy, but holy hell that car's styling is glorious.
Josh sounds like is American. :)

Frank DePasquale preach !!! I agree! !!! cts owner !!!!
^^^ x 1000. Traded in my high maintenance 528i for a 2018 ATS 2.0 coupe with 6MT. Couldn't be happier.
Truth
I've had my 2017 ATS-V for almost four years now...puts the biggest smile on my face every time I get in it. The best car I've ever owned.
I am such a Cadillac man. Looking forward to retiring my current STS (sad) but not soon.
The performance data recorder system is dope, I want that.
Give it the CT’S-V driver gauge cluster and I’ll buy one tomorrow.
The guages are literally it's only flaw
This is such an underrated car but I was always irritated by the CUE system, although Caddy has been improving it steadily. Also, the back seats are a joke even in the sedan, forget the coupe.

Adrian Bug can you get the Chevy SS in Australia?
TheVP and I heard massive discounts on manual transmission ATS.
The ATS competes in the large compact class, so back seat room will be tight but comparable to other vehicles in its class.
"Back seat room is tight" is Auto magazine speak for- It's not suitable for above average adults. I am 5'11", sat in the ATS sedan and it was ridiculously small and I couldn't sit behind driver's seat adjusted for me. these short reviews are sweet!

As I said in the review, there's not many cars I regret having to return, this was one of them

What's wrong with this cars reliability thou?
Better than a BMW. Period.
colderbeer never in life

quicktjc1 lol Cadillac will break down after 5000 miles
kevin sam Shut the fuck up.
quicktjc1 I'm glad you already know but if it makes you mad, I'll stop telling people that.
Really need an eight cylinder version... A 427 small block with 500hp would be incredible.
One of the best cars i own. 3.6 v6 awd
Thanks Zack. Great video. I personally would love to see Lincoln throw in some competition... Like maybe a Continental Mark IX - with the trunk spare tire hump, of course.
Give that design engineer a raise he/she earned it.
Really wish they had an ats vsport in the middle. Take the 3.0tt from the ct6 and shove in the luxruy/base trim. Priced just a but more than the N/A v6/2.0t. Kind of like the 228i, m235i, m2 and a4, rs4, s4 packaging.
Excellent as always Zack. I'm a little hesitant in buying any GM product however this looks like a good one. Keep up the great work GM.
I was so tempted because GM was offering 0% financing, but then I looked up its resell value, ouch...
Like a kick in the dick, these American cars don't hold any value
Like American women too lol
Neo Racer lmao
Neo Racer ... That's cold but funny
Neo Racer I spit my coffee out, that’s funny.
such a nice car

That is a sweet ride
They really need to improve the gauges
lb ft of torque is odd, we measure torque in Ft. Lbs. . i like the ATS V anyhow , manual for me. driving is much more engaging for me.
Offer it with AWD and I’ll consider one for my next car.
Beautiful from the front, not a fan of the back view tho

I have CUE in my ATS. Works just fine.
My uncle owns 1 of 8 in Cali auto coupe
Those gauges, ugh I shudder every time I see them. I can't imagine having to look at that cheap garbage everyday. I don't know how that passed initial design let alone the refresh. It's the ONLY reason I haven't bought the ATS already and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Direct Reply Especially when they have very good gauges in other Cadillacs!
Such a nice looking car. Never even seen one. Would keep it for life. This thing will age well and always be worth more than the run of the mill versions.

The XTS has absolutely phenomenal gauges and the HUD is glorious
Zack you seemed a bit biased towards this car lol.
+Immortal Guard it's a great car, people should try it
$91,000 + tx ...... Bhahahahahahaha No wonder you didn't say how much the fully loaded model was ...
Just buy another used Elantra or Sonata instead like you usually do....gotta buy what you can afford right?
colderbeer 😂😂
that gauge cluster looks like it came out of a Chevy Cavalier...
1991 Cavalier Z24 to be precise. Lmao
if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
I would rather have a V8 then the euro twin turbo v6 that sounds droney
Can u give it away for Christmas? Lol
Jba brought me herev

Man those gauges look outdated, they cant do better then that?
Little salty i guess
Gauge cluster layout looks awful. The CTS-V cluster is much better.

Cadillac needs to figure that out otherwise what's the point of making such a great looking and driving car if it's going to probably be a piece of crap in the end?
Cadillac just will not budge with those garbage capacitive buttons.
I cannot buy in good faith, a car with dash gauges that UGLY. I was hoping GM would have refreshed them for 2018 but sadly, no.
Who the hell would get this junk when there's the c63 and alfa qv
Gohan People who could careless about those cars and want a Cadillac!
The c63 is nice but the looks don't match the performance, it looks too much like a regular cat and the cadillac stands out
"Car"
I just find all the Cadillacs' to be hideous looking.
But most of their customers are over 65 and can't see well enough to tell anyway lol
Cadillac and Lexus are some of the worst looking vehicles on the road.
Not too many 65 plus year olds will be buying this car.
Personally, I am fan of Cadillac's recent designs. I guess that it either grabs people or it doesn't. Envious ?????
I’m looking at getting one and I’m not retired
