August 12. 1991- For anyone that remembers, this was the date of Metallica's black album release. For me, it was also my 14th birthday. I received this album from my dad that day. I will always be grateful to him for that and mostly for instilling a love of music expanding across many genres.
This is a Metallica masterpiece, not just a song🖤✨ 0:56 I love these guitars so much. Look how eagerly Lars plays that drum! OMG. Not to mention James' voice, it's enough to pierce the soul. This melody is like a bullet. I've cried a lot. This band is a masterpiece in the history of rock.

I was in my late teens when I've heard it back then . Didn't think much of it. Just a few days ago I came back to it. I can relate now. And I can only say, I can't wait for it to end.😞
My father died one week ago. I have loved Metallica for nearly 40 years. This song brings me to a place that no other song can. It is a timeless piece that is as good today as the day it was released.
This video is such an incredible work of art. The lack of color, the brilliant way it plays on light and shadow. It's a gorgeous video that perfectly complements the song.
I've been a huge fan since I was really little, but I recently went through a horrific loss. I held the person as they were taken off life support. Four days prior to this, I saw Metallica in concert. They played this song as a part of their Black Album anniversary tour. James said to the crowd "Forgive yourselves" and I cried then, but I didn't know how much more I needed this later that week. I think about James a lot, and the things he has gone through. His reminder to forgive myself and try to grow in this world is not only appreciated, but very needed. I wish I could thank him personally, and the band, for helping me through this.
I am so sorry, I lost my precious husband in 2017 to suicide. We loved to listen to Metallica together… they are so amazing!! Soo extremely talented! I have a song here on RUclips, I play a piano version of “Nothing Eles Matters” you should check it out, it’s kinda quiet good!! Lol Rebeccasherrill.. check it out! 😊💕
_Metallica_ (The "Black Album") was Peak Metallica. I said it. _Metallica_ was the most musical, most creative album that they made. Everyone that says their earlier stuff is better are "metalheads" that care more about the idea and the image than the music, just like gangsters with rap --- it's not the music itself, it's the feeling of being part of an "outcast community". Everyone that says the later stuff is better --- err... maybe it's a matter of adjusting meds?
30-ть лет слушаю, и все как в первый раз, вспоминаю запмсь на кассете, мафон, вечернюю тусовку, буть вина, все как буд-то была вчера, все пронеслось в один миг.....Жена в шоке, а я в кайфе!!!!!!
I have a brother who deals with mental illness. Music has always been his favorite thing. Recently, his guitar was broken. I've been listening Metallica (again) frequently since last month then I decided to give an accousitc guitar for my brother as a Christmas present. Thank you Metallica for inspiring me this idea and for those who read this comment, wish me luck.
This song always meant a lot to me, even when I first heard it. Was 18-19 in 1991 when I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I grew up with emotional abuse from my father (he was ill) so the lyrics seemed to say how I felt. Still recovering slowly, but love this song.
Obra maestra es la vida misma ,la voz cruda de Hetfield, los dibujos guitarreros d Hammett ,el ritmo agresivo d Lars y el bajo que te retumba el pecho d Newsted hacen q esta cancion te llegue a la médula
You sang about mental illness long before it was talked about. As kids, nobody asked if we were OK or could we go ask for help. We had to deal with it or check out. Your music helped me through some sh***y a** times when I was a kid, your words made me feel I wasn't alone and your guitar riffs and drums just made me feel. Thank you for what you did for the kids of the 80s, you saved a lot of us. Me included! Forever a Metallica metal head!!❤❤🤘🤘🤘
The Unforgiven songs are about James Hetfield and his struggles due to the environment he was raised in. A very strict Christian home that did not believe in medicine or anything because God would take care of it. Due to that he watched his mother die of cancer after his father had already left the family. He's not talking about growing old either. The guy in this first Unforgiven isn't old nor grows old in the song. It's about the feeling of being young (James was a pretty young guy when he wrote this, early thirties tops) but feeling like your life is over. That the world has battered you so bad that you are, inside, an old man. That's why he says the lyrics "that old man here is me". He means from the years of mental abuse, both in his childhood and what he's done to himself, have turned him into a bitter old man. James Hetfield is The Unforgiven.
New blood joins this earth And quickly he's subdued Through constant pained disgrace The young boy learns their rules With time the child draws in This whipping boy done wrong Deprived of all his thoughts The young man struggles on and on he's known A vow unto his own That never from this day His will they'll take away What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never be Never see Won't see what might have been What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never free Never me So I dub thee unforgiven They dedicate their lives To running all of his He tries to please them all This bitter man he's Throughout his life the same He's battled constantly This fight he cannot win A tired man they see no longer cares The old man then prepares To die regretfully That old man here's me What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never be Never see Won't see what might have been What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never free Never me So I dub thee unforgiven What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never be Never see Won't see what might have been What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never free Never me So I dub thee unforgiven Never free Never me So I dub thee unforgiven You labeled me I'll label you So I dub thee unforgiven Never free Never me So I dub thee unforgiven You labeled me I'll label you So I dub thee unforgiven Never free Never me So I dub thee unforgiven
This, song makes more sense to me now than when I was younger the lyrics remind me of what hell men are being through by the system from cradle to grave because of feminists.
@@DK-rh5sf feminism you say? "The Unforgiven" is James Hetfield's most personal track of all Metallica songs. The song explores James' tumultuous childhood. His dad left the family when he was thirteen for no apparent reason -- only a mare note was left behind explaining his departure. James got really mad at his father for leaving them behind, given that he was the breadwinner of the family and that his mom wasn't as effective at being a single parent. She made a living painting stuff, but besides that, she wasn't able to properly take care of James and her daughter. Nevertheless they managed to push on... but not for long. His mom passed away when James was sixteen after a losing battle with cancer.
@@martinaspoljaricpracaic92 You,do know alot,of songs lyrics are opened to interpretation right? I am just going by the lyrics word for word at how society views young boys I know this is about James as a child growing up.

And quickly he's subdued
Through constant pain disgrace
The young boy learns their rules
With time the child draws in
This whipping boy done wrong
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man struggles on and on he's known
A vow unto his own
That never from this day
His will they'll take away
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be

Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub the unforgiven
They dedicate their lives
To running all of his
He tries to please them all
This bitter man he is
Throughout his life the same
He's battled constantly
This fight he cannot win
A tired man they see no longer cares
The old man then prepares
To die regretfully
That old man here is me
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown

Won't see what might have been

My father died one week ago. I have loved Metallica for nearly 40 years. This song brings me to a place that no other song can. It is a timeless piece that is as good today as the day it was released.

This song hits deeper the older you get.

We all wish we could thank him ! His words kept us alive ! And still ! Metallica forever ! 🤘🤘🤘
I love Metallica especially this song it’s a true masterpiece Metallica forever!
my condolences
Rock on mate. Never let these losses be on vain.
I love metallica, for their music, and how much their texts represent my life and my past
É impressionante como essa música mexe comigo , me emociono fico todo arrepiado . Obrigado Metallica , a melhor banda do planeta .

Hope the guitar thing worked out for you and your brother

This song always meant a lot to me, even when I first heard it. Was 18-19 in 1991 when I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I grew up with emotional abuse from my father (he was ill) so the lyrics seemed to say how I felt.
Still recovering slowly, but love this song.
Fuck man, M.S, I hope everything's ok, M.S always hits unimaginably hard.✌✌

Obra maestra es la vida misma ,la voz cruda de Hetfield, los dibujos guitarreros d Hammett ,el ritmo agresivo d Lars y el bajo que te retumba el pecho d Newsted hacen q esta cancion te llegue a la médula
The Black album songs never get old.
Side one of the black album is perfect. Side two isn't perfect 🙄 but it's still better than 90 percent of the "rock" of today
What about the other sides?

You sang about mental illness long before it was talked about. As kids, nobody asked if we were OK or could we go ask for help. We had to deal with it or check out. Your music helped me through some sh***y a** times when I was a kid, your words made me feel I wasn't alone and your guitar riffs and drums just made me feel. Thank you for what you did for the kids of the 80s, you saved a lot of us. Me included! Forever a Metallica metal head!!❤❤🤘🤘🤘
I know, I was abandoned also
The Unforgiven songs are about James Hetfield and his struggles due to the environment he was raised in.
They always carried me through my depression

awesome
New blood joins this earth
And quickly he's subdued
Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules
With time the child draws in
This whipping boy done wrong
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man struggles on and on he's known
A vow unto his own
That never from this day
His will they'll take away
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee unforgiven
They dedicate their lives
To running all of his
He tries to please them all
This bitter man he's
Throughout his life the same
He's battled constantly
This fight he cannot win
A tired man they see no longer cares
The old man then prepares
To die regretfully
That old man here's me
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee unforgiven
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be

Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
