    Yet, despite Melbourians switching off Seven and raging over the Sydney takeover, THEY WERE WATCHING SYDNEY SHOWS! 🤣
    What did Melbourne become in 1987? As quoted in a particular segment of this video, Sydney’s newest suburb.

    After newsreader Mal Walden was dumped as weekday host of Seven News and replaced with someone from Sydney, viewers switched off in protest. Things were so bad that viewing figures rated an asterisk in surveys.

    Regional Victorian channels lost almost all of their own programming - aside from local news and ads - due to aggregation in the nineties. At least Melbournians still had 9, 10 and the ABC (to some extent).

    It was a ratings winner. Until 10 moved to an hour.
