Poem for Polycarp... Brother of ours who lived a life worthy to repeat, who stayed his course when others sought his life and soul to beat. He died a death for the cause of spreading the good news, he tied the readiness of the gospel to his own two shoes. With open arms he received fire upon his own skin, knowing he has been freed from eternal flames of sin. Let's never forget the true martyrs of the ancient days past, the ones who carved the way for us that follow the only true path. In Jesus name, amen.

  • @GR65330

When he had wafted up the Amen and finished the prayer, the men attending to the fire lit it; and when a mighty flame shot up, we, who were privileged to see it, saw a wonderful thing; and we have been spared to tell the tale to the rest. The fire produced the likeness of a faulted chamber, like a ship’s sail bellying to the breeze, and surrounded the martyr’s body as with a wall; and he was in the centre of it, not as burning flesh, but as bread that is baking, or as gold and silver refined in a furnace! In fact, we even caught an aroma such as the scent of incense or of some other precious spice.
At length, seeing that his body could not be consumed by fire, those impious people ordered the executioner to approach him and run a dagger into him. This done, there issued [a dove and] a great quantity of blood, with the result that the fire was quenched and the whole crowd was struck by the difference between unbelievers and elect. And of the elect the most wonderful Polycarp was certainly one - an apostolic and prophetic teacher in our times, and a bishop of the Catholic Church at Smyrna.

@Mike Bastiat Yes... this is a primary source. The letter which was written by eyewitnesses has survived over the years. I'll refer back to my reference:
The “Martyrdom of Polycarp” is the story, in the form of a letter, of the death which the bishop of Smyrna suffered at the hands of the Roman authorities in Asia for the defense of the Christian faith. It is an account of eyewitnesses, composed in the name of the Church of Smyrna by a certain Marcion, committed to paper by one Evarestus, and, though sent to the Christians at Phrygia, intended from the outset for world-wide circulation”.
This excerpt is taken from “The Martyrdom of St. Polycarp” (Ancient Christian Writers, Kleist, 1948, Newman Press, p. 96-98).
"Without delay the material prepared for the pyre was piled around him; but when they intended to nail him as well, he said: “Leave me just as I am. He who enables me to endure the fire will also enable me to remain on the pyre unbudging, without the security afforded by your nails.”
So they did not nail him, but just fastened him. And there he was, with his hands put behind him, and fastened, like a ram above a large flock, ready for sacrifice, a holocaust prepared and acceptable to God! And he Looked up to heaven and said:
“O Lord God, O Almighty, Father of Thy beloved and blessed Son Jesus Christ, through whom we have received the knowledge of you - God of angels and hosts and all creation - and of the whole race of saints who live under your eyes! I bless Thee, because Thou has seen fit to bestow upon me this day and this hour, that I may share, among the number of martyrs, the cup of Thy Anointed and rise to eternal life both in soul and in body, in virtue of the immortality of the Holy Spirit. May I be accepted among them in Thy sight today as a rich and pleasing sacrifice, such as Thy, the true God that cannot utter a falsehood, hast prearranged, revealed in advance, and now consummated. And therefore I praise Thee for everything; I bless Thee; I glorify Thee through the eternal and heavenly High Priest Jesus Christ, Thy beloved Son, through whom be glory to Thee together with Him and the Holy Spirit, both now and for the ages yet to come. Amen.”
An average Christian, which includes yours truly, only knows about Christ's disciples and Martin Luther nailing his 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg Castle. The period between these two, which is about 1400 years between the death of the last apostle, John and Martin Luther, is mostly unstudied by the average person. We need to know the church history to understand and to defend our faith better and to be better teachers. This video is part of this understanding.

I think John the apostle wrote revelation. Recall he was one of the disciple taken along with Jesus during the transfiguration. The reason could be so that John can recognize the spiritual form of Jesus. An evidence to this was when he was taken up to spiritual heaven while in a dream in Rev 4, he saw Jesus in same form as shown in the transfiguration, so he was now convinced about his dream. There is a reason to every revelation in the bible. There is no other John if not John the disciple. And recall he live longer than the other disciples, he had polycarp and Ignatius of Antioch (who later wrote the actual letters to the 7 churches, fulfilling the vision of John about sending letters in rev 2-3) as his disciple.

@@TheologyAcademy sorry, but you have to prove with scriptural evidence that John the apostle didn't write Revelation. Remember he was preaching the word of God which he learnt from Jesus, that was the reason why he was exiled to patmos, read Rev1:9-10. He wouldn't have learnt the testimony of Jesus if he wasn't among the disciples. Remember the 12 disciples where commissioned to go and preach the message of Jesus all over the ends of earth and make disciples of all nations. When Jesus ascended to heaven, the holy spirit dwelled among the 12 disciples and the went around preaching the word of God and testimony of Jesus, on the process, most of them were gruesomely murdered and some exiled for preaching this gospel. You can show me another John with scriptural evidence. Thank you

Because Ignatius persuaded Polycarp to preside over the Lord's Supper in Rome on Sunday, disregarding the tradition of the Quartodeciman and as soon as he returned to Smyrna a letter asking for the reinstatement of the new removed deacons and then the revolt of the Christians against the hitherto beloved elder Polycarp ? I wanna ask a really important question for anyone here
When you die, do you think you’re going to heaven or to hell?
If you think hell, just stick around. God’s gospel doesn’t end at condemnation but brings mercy in accordance with God’s requirement for absolute justice.
But if you think heaven, why? Is it because you live a good life? Cause let me show you an analogy of what it’s like if God were to let you into heaven by your good works: you are a doctor and you’ve saved hundreds of lives but you go to a bar one night and you screw around and get violent and end up killing a man. Days go by and you’re in front of the judge, about to make testimony. You tell the judge that he should acquit you because you’re a doctor and you’ve saved a hundred lives. The judge looks at you insane and deems it not valid.
This analogy demonstrates that God can’t let you into heaven by your good works. You need perfection to get into heaven, and no man has that. The Bible, and aswell as our conscience, tells us that “none is righteous” and that we’ve all broken God’s law thats been written in our hearts.
But God in his great love, didn’t make us for hell, he made us to live with him and for us to worship him and enjoy his presence. And he is a just God, so he demands penalty for sin, which is death (i.e., hell/eternal punishment) to cover the eternal offense of sin.
So he, wanting us to be made right with him, and demanding justice and payment of sins, agreed to send his eternal Son down to earth. He was made into a man and he lived the sinless perfect life, which God requires. And he died for ALL of our sins. And he rose again on the 3rd day. If you’ll simply believe (aka trust) on him for your salvation, you receive what he possesses and merits and has merited (eternal life, sinlessness, perfection in God’s eyes) and you have received it justly because in Christ is the payment of all sins.
And get this, the life which is in God’s Son is EVERLASTING meaning it never ends. And it is our spirit which inherits it, not our flesh. So the works of our flesh will never get us unsaved. The works of our life will determine not our salvation, but our rewards at the judgment seat of Christ. If someone is saved (simply by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ) and his works are nasty, he is still saved.
    1 Corinthians 3:15
“But if any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire”
Salvation is by faith alone because first of all the bible says so (ephesians 2:8-9) and because you possess the substance of what your faith is in. For example if you put your faith into a stock by investment, you possess whatever that stock contains.
So if you will, say this prayer:
“Lord Jesus Christ, I am a sinner. And I believe and trust on you alone to save my soul. I believe you died for ALL my sins. And I believe you rose again on the 3rd day. Amen”
Welcome to the family of God brother or sister 🙏🙏🙏✝️✝️✝️
