Based on the life of Infantryman Albert DJ Cashier. After surviving the horrors of the Civil War, Albert retires to the Soldiers & Sailors Home of Saunemin, Illinois. As he struggles with worsening dementia, and slips between the past and the present, a life-long secret is discovered:
Albert was born Jennifer Hodgers.
